About a year ago, My Rare One took up painting for the first time. She started with acrylics but then switched to oils at the behest of her teacher. I think she's doing marvelously well at it. This is her latest painting. The first photo doesn't really do it justice, but the second one with the detail of the doorway shows much better how she captured the sunlight pouring through it from inside the walled garden.

It reminds me of that classic children's book, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, which was one of my favourites growing up.

This painting is now in my office at work so I can see it every day!

Oh my...very good!
Wow! She has a wonderful eye!! Techniques can be taught, but how you see things is inborn. .she has been given a gift, and I'm so happy to see her enjoying it! I would love to see more of her work!
i have been painting my whole life and i am not even close to being this good.....damn!

I love the painting especially the shades and colours and light!
Gorgeous!
Very magical! Did my heart good to wake up and see such a doorway. Oh to walk into that garden!
That's one talented lady, your Rare One. Stunning detail for someone so "young" to her art. Big pat on the back (and a large glass of wine) methinks!
what a lovely painting, definitely something i would hang in my house, the garden looks inviting

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is one talented gal!!! So glad she took it up. I'd say that she was meant to do so.
Gentle hugs,
~♥~
Oh my gosh - this is REALLY good! Way to go Rare One! I love the depth in it - all of it, really - but I do admire people who can create depth in a picture.
I'm very depth-less when it comes to art. Or, more accurately, talent-less. Giggle. Just give me a trowel and a spade instead.
Holy moly!! She rocks!!
I would say she is very good for a starter painter! That is so beautiful! I used to paint free hand from scratch, but you never could tell what the hell it was. Someone would have probably paid good money for them! Maybe I'll try again.
Oooooo....I love the Secret Garden....such a rich imagery for in inner squirrel.
What a beautiful painting! Magical:) Your "Rare One" has "rare" talent!
I have one word.....
WOW!!!!
Exceptional....okay, that was two.
XXOO~~
Anne
well done, d o :)
An absolutely fantastic painting! The composition and light/shadows are wonderful! I can see this painting being hung in a gallery. I do hope you'll share more work. :0)
GOod GHU, thats FABULOUS!!! I mean that...seriously! As an artist, I know what I am seeing and what it took to do that kind of subtle lighting with oil paint! Definitely the sense of walking through into something bigger and beyond mortal earth in this...there is a inter-dimensional quality to the light, a breath of Faerie, or of Narnia...you tell your rare one that she has Talent and to PLEASE continue to develop it! Y'all are just both so amazing every time I turn around...wow!
That is amazing, Debra! Your Fine One has tremendous talent...the subtle and luminous light she has captured here is just wonderful, and such illustration of depth. I immediately thought of The Secret Garden, too...would still like a secret garden myself.
Hope you've both had a wonderful weekend...:)
Im with you on the book, i loved it when i was young too
Lucky you getting to gaze upon such lovliness each day. Your "rare one" has great talent indeed!
