Here Comes the Bride!

Today's the day to celebrate our favourite monster! So may I present -- the Bride of Frankenstein!

The 1935 movie Bride of Frankenstein was British actress Elsa Lanchester's greatest movie role!

She brought undeniably ghoulish glamour to the screen -- oh, that hair!

And it's a style that looks good on everybody --

The Bride's enduring appeal continues today. She is a pop culture icon -- immediately recognizable in whatever setting in which she is presented and in whatever modern trappings of style!

And you know what? It looks like she got over her aversion to Frankie! Hey, a girl has needs.

And finally, many thanks to Leeanna of Can We Have a New Witch, Ours Melted for sending me this marvelous gif of the incomparable Madeline Kahn's Bride in Young Frankenstein!

I used to love those vintage horror movies when I was a kid. They used to show them late night (I think on BBC2). It's a shame they didn't give Billie Piper the same hairdo in Penny Dreadful!

Lol. My favourite is the cat, an image it is hard to forget. But...who would want to?

I suspected that a cat might appear somewhere on this post - do know images of Helena Bonham-Carter? she always makes me think of the Bride of Frankenstein.

My all time favorite is Madeline Kahn from Young Frankenstein. I'm surprised you didn't post that gif meme when she comes from the bathroom kicks off her shoes as she approaches the bed, wets her thumb and touches her ass and makes a sizzle sound like she's hot. That was so funny.

A fine actress and performer but a strange woman was our Elsa - she had a love-hate marriage with the great Charles Laughton. She found out early in their marriage that he was gay and lived with it. Bu according to several biographies, she made his last days, as he lay dying of cancer, unbearable. She then became both the bearer and the destroyer of his legacy.

she was perfect for that role and I love her hair,, wish I had streaks like that,, I have them starting but I doubt I live long enough for them to be that white lol,,

These are so cute! It's nice to see the Bride get some appreciation.

That the character of the monster's bride would become an icon when she was only in the last fifteen minutes or so of the movie says a lot about Lanchester's performance.

Those gray streaks really are iconic. I am not really into horror movies, but I did find Madeline Khan's bride in Young Frankenstein, hilarious.

Fun post, Debra.

This is just delicious, Debra. The woman has the best hair ever. And so does the cat. One day, I need to dress up as her. I can't believe I haven't done it yet. I mean, I totally have the afro for it. I just need to get the dress... and the chic stitches.

Happiest MMM!

I once dated someone with hair like that. Well, not that 'do, but that texture. She made a very convincing Bride of Frankenstein on Halloween,

I like how the show Penny Dreadful put a new twist on the Bride of Frankenstein. Made her more human and just a tad darker.

A bride with class and glamour plus a fantastic hair do, that Frankenstein was one lucky guy.

Yeah have to love the bride!

What's that May Monster Madness? I didn't know about it. It's a great movie, but I far prefer the source material, in which the Bride never shows up, or at least never comes to life. The bride of the Creature that is, because this is what the Bride of Frankenstein truly is.

I am so going to have to get me a fix of Young Frankenstein now *pronounced Fronkensteen* ...she is certainly one classy bride :D XXX
