We're Pretty LGBT+ Friendly, Eh?

These days we finally have our priorities correct in Canada.

When I moved from Manitoba to Alberta 20 years ago, it was the most homophobic province in all of Canada. But now look at us! Woo hoo, Calgary and Mayor Naheed Nenshi, you rock!

Exactly how LGBT+ friendly is Canada? Hey, just look at our friggin' money!

And these are our postage stamps!

And this is our Prime Minister!

Why, we even love our neighbour to the south in a very special way!

Do you know why Canada is so LGBT+ friendly? Well, I'll tell you. It's all in our top secret demographics --

individual canadians confirmed as 5 gays in a trench coat

That's right! We've been fooling the world for years! We are ALL LGBT+ in Canada!

I wish the USA were as open and honest and accepting as canada. (sigh) we have a hell of a loooooong way to go.

when I last visited montreal in 1991, your paper money was not as gay. WOO HOO.

and a muslim mayor? OMB, do you know how many right-wing nutjob heads would explode at THAT?

I still wanna shag your justin trudeau; wish WE had such a LEADER, and not a LOSER!

Yay for the mayor of Calgary. Well done, sir.

You have a Muslim mayor? Uh oh...
I don't like Canadian prime minister for some reason, he smells fishy to me and my sense is never wrong....

And all this time I thought the US was a power top.

Love the photo of Trudeau :) I think that Canada is very open and wonderful and I'd never leave this country ever. There are pockets here in Quebec though that don't fit into your description. If you're not white, straight, Catholic and francophone, you're just not welcome. That's why we'll likely leave for the Maritimes in a few years. I'm so glad you've found your comfort Debra.

I don't think most Americans do realize how "low" the population of Canada really is.

Debra She Who Seeks said...

Yes, the population of Canada right now is about 40 million -- about the same number as California, I believe.

I love Canada! If only you had a Mediterranean climate!

I'm glad Canada is making inroads.

I live in the American South, but my city has had a lesbian mayor and just painted four crosswalks a couple blocks from here with rainbow stripes... permanently, I think.

And if Texas can do that, then surely Canada can.

Things are definitely moving in the right direction.

My only issue with this post is that your decadent Prime Minister is wearing one shirt too many.
Happy Pride!

You know I'm going to love that first one!! Not to sound naive but is this week pride week for you as well? I still to this day wonder what road my life would have been if I would have taken that job in Canada dang it for falling in love here in the states!

I have only been to Canada twice but enjoyed every minute. Get a little buggy in the summertime. I guess that's why a lot of Canadians go to Cape May New Jersey. Have a great week.

Hooray for Canada! I love your country and wish I could come live there.

And your PM is hot, hot, HOT! You all are so lucky.

@ Bob Johns -- Our Pride Parade here in Edmonton was last Saturday, June 10th. But our Pride celebrations last all month. Just yesterday I went to the annual Pride concert of our local LGBT+ choir, Edmonton Vocal Minority. Some large Canadian cities have their Pride Parades at different times over the summer (e.g. Toronto in July, Vancouver in August, and Montreal I think in August too?) to stagger the dates because lots of people attend from across the country at each.

Thank you for being the big spoon to our little spoon. But if you could please stop pushing your Ontario into our backs. It's just not going to happen tonight. I've had a really long day at work, and I really am quite tired.

Oh, my Goddess! So many lolz! I laughed, and then I laugh-cried, and then I wept bitter tears for my country.

But, mostly I laughed. Great funnies!

Happy Pride!!!

I love Canada! We rock! Great post Debra! I have to admit, I am upset with the Gay Pride parade for Toronto this year! Our police men and women are not aloud to participate, or wear their uniforms! Such a shame! I don't know if your heard about it? But, I totally disagree!! I feel bad for them!

Debra She Who Seeks said...

@ Magic Love Crow -- Yes, I heard about the decisions made in Toronto and I disagree as well. In Edmonton, the police, armed forces and RCMP all marched in their uniforms in our Pride Parade. But they used or displayed no vehicles, sirens or weaponry. That was the compromise we reached in Alberta between minority groups and the police. No group should be excluded from participating in the Pride Parade unless they are a criminal group or opposed to Pride. And no other participating group should be able to hold Pride hostage or dictate the terms of the Parade.

I don't know which was funnier, the Canadian money or the US and Canada map, Debra! I have to admit, I've looked at the map of my two countries many times, but I've never though of it "THAT" way. You know what they say, "You can't unring a bell." I may never be able to look at a map of the two countries seriously again! LOL What a contrast between Trudeau and Trump!
