For this week's Friday Face OFF link party
of art featuring faces, hosted by Nicole of
DVArtist, Art, Food, Gardening blog . . .
From the "Drawing Australia" course
which I'm currently taking, here's
a bearded dragon lizard.
As usual, this was done freehand
using HB, 2B, 4B and 6B pencils.
According to Wikipedia --
Pogona is a genus of reptiles containing eight lizard species, which are often known by the common name bearded dragons or informally (especially in Australia) beardies. The name "bearded dragon" refers to the underside of the throat (or "beard") of the lizard, which can turn black and become inflated for a number of reasons, most often as a result of stress, if they feel threatened, or are trying to entice a mate. . . . They are found throughout much of Australia and inhabit environments such as deserts and shrublands.
A real cutie-patootie, isn't he/she?

ReplyDeleteWow, great sketch!!! Are they those whose tongue turns blue under stress? Once we stopped to shoo one from the road and he got mad...
ReplyDelete@ Iris Flavia -- I don't know about bearded dragon's tongues but ooooooo, wouldn't that be neat to see?

ReplyDeleteYikes! So lifelike that I'm relieved he can't jump off the page - or out of the screen...
ReplyDeleteStunning work, as usual, Debra!
Because of my being creeped out by lizards, and this one being so realistic, this post needed one of those "I understand and continue" warnings.
ReplyDelete@ BootsandBraids -- Sorry, Shirley, hope this one didn't freak you out TOO much!
DeleteI love that!
ReplyDeleteCodex: Not an easy posture to draw. We'll done

Jeebus, that poor bugger has a face only a mother could love! But you did a fantastic job giving dimension to his spinal ridge.
ReplyDeleteWoW! I love your art. You are so talented. Your shading is excellent. Thank you for sharing with FFO and have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteVery very vividly sketched
ReplyDeleteJudging by your drawing, it IS a cutie. Also, you've introduced me to a new species of reptile. This is the first I heard of it.
ReplyDeleteHis/her claws freak me out. They look deadly. Fantastic drawing!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood heavens! That lizard is so good it looks like it has crawled up from the paper - like a lizard in the drawings of Escher.
ReplyDeleteDespite quick sketch ,your art has very impressive quality of neatness and power dear friend Debra 👍🤗🥰
ReplyDeleteI loved how you draw her ! Awesome ♥️
Depth and shadow, all very well done.
