For this week's Friday Face OFF link party
of art featuring faces, hosted by Nicole of
DVArtist, Art, Food, Gardening blog . . .
Here is a Black Currawong found only
in Australia's island state of Tasmania.
A type of corvid (like our
crows, jays, or magpies),
the Black Currawong has
a large, heavy bill and
white patches on its wings and tail.
Its distinctive eyes have yellow irises.
I did this freehand using
HB, 2B, 4B and 6B pencils.
It was another exercise in the
"Drawing Australia" course
which I am currently taking.
Our teacher just recently returned
from a holiday in Australia.
The course is based on her photos
taken while Down Under.
She told us that this bird
flew over their mid-day picnic,
swooped down, and stole a sandwich
right out of her hand as she was about to eat it.
You've got to be impressed with a
clever and cheeky bird like that!

It's gorgeous ๐ very well drawn ๐
ReplyDelete...I'm impressed!
ReplyDeleteStunning detail!!!!! Another nice selection for notecards!!! hint hint....
ReplyDeleteI love that one, and he looks just like the kind of bird who would steal the food from your hand!
ReplyDeleteExcellent work Debra!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteYou know how much I like pencil drawings...
XOXO
Yikes. That had to be a bit startling for her. Well, here's her revenge --- a beautiful drawing of the thief on the internet!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed by the birds' capabilities, (sandwiches are yummy!) but I'm really impressed with your drawing. It's lovely!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice.
ReplyDeleteThat is one smart bird if he an get a free lunch like that. And wow, what an amazing drawing. Very nicely done!
ReplyDeleteWow! great sketch ~ thanks,
ReplyDeleteWishing you good health, laughter and love,

You really are a gifted artist, Debra. This is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThat bird looks scary! And I thought it only was those Tasmanian devils that you have to worry about.
ReplyDelete๐ You captured that aura of thievery. What I love most is the appearance that the bird is saying "I'm just this fun bird" while its tail feathers are crossed like fingers hoping you don't see the truth!! ๐ค๐๐
ReplyDeleteYou create such beautiful art! A gull stole my sister-in-law’s churro at La Bufadora in Ensenada, Mexico (the blowhole, a natural rock formation that causes what looks like a marine geyser). It’s magnificent. She never looked once because she really wanted that churro.
ReplyDeleteOh a thief in flight. That is too funny. However, your drawing is outstanding. Again, I wish I had your teacher. The class seem like fun and you actually learn something. Thank you for sharing with FFO and have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteYup, corvids are known for their intelligence and boldness. I've seen ravens swoop at cottontail rabbits to herd them onto a highway for vehicles to kill. Your Black Currawong drawing is terrific -- you've captured its cunning face perfectly!
ReplyDeleteCheeky for sure. Great drawing, Debra.
ReplyDeleteThe currawong likes to take advantage of every offered opportunity! Nice drawing of the little devil!
ReplyDeleteWow great drawing. When I only saw the head, I thought it was a photo.
ReplyDeletefeels very Edgar Allen Poe...... nevermore!! Lovely work, congrats to you!!
ReplyDeleteThe painting carries a spark and a soul
ReplyDeleteHello Debra, I was going to make some comments that have all been covered above, so I will just sum it up with: Another Debra Masterpiece!

I am so impressed with your crawings! This one is fantastic, and from what you wrote I think you captured this bird's personality.
ReplyDeleteNicely done. Interesting bird.
ReplyDeleteI saw the Currawong in Tas. It was one of 318 birds I saw while in Australia.
ReplyDeleteAmazing.
ReplyDeleteDang, its amazing. You go girl.
ReplyDeleteThat Currawong has attitude and make no mistake!
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful drawing, as expected!
It looks like it has a stealth body.
ReplyDeletei LOVE the sketch. Its soooo old-world good. THIS is what we will miss in the age of AI, where the young people know nothing except prompt engineering. I have friends who have employees who legit say they cant work if ChatGPT is down. And then, one sees... this!! Thank you for retaining the real!
ReplyDeleteI bet that is a wonderful class to be part of. Her photos have to be lovely. Your art work is also lovely. You are a great artist.
ReplyDeleteYour art teacher sounds like a very cool person to learn from. Right out of the hand too. Great picture, Debra! Really good stuff. I love when you share your art.
