Sunday Selections Colour of the Month: Carmine

This year I'll be participating from time to time in
Sunday Selections, a blog hop party of photography
challenges hosted by River of Drifting Through Life.

Charlotte of MotherOwl's Musings also provides a
Colour of the Month prompt as part of the challenge.
This month's colour is Carmine.

Here's what I found around my place
to fulfill the colour prompt!

1. Kitchen Utensils, Oven Mitts, and Teapot

My kitchen is basically
white and off-white everything,
so I use red items to jazz it up.

2. Christmas Placemats

I just bought these at a seniors' centre
craft sale in November. I love the fabric pattern!

3. Three Thors

From my Marvel action figures collection.

    1. @ Boud -- My sister gave it to me years ago. I'm not sure where she found it. But it has been a great teapot!

  5. ...Debra, are sure that this isn't red?

  6. Love the January colour! Way nicer than the white around here!

  7. Reds always brighten things up. My MIL had all red utensils on her countertop. Toaster, mixer, utensils, and electric oven, mitts, ...everything!
Color is good especially in the winter.

  8. Great color! Give me red or carmine any day. Love the Thors. Recently watched a movie, (for the upteenth time) called, "Mortal" about a guy who finds out he is related to Thor. A very good movie. Debra, I'm thrilled that you are interested in Sunday in the art room. I know you will have a lot to contribute. Have a great day today.

    2. 🤩 OMG! Great call, DVArtist! Hubby and I looked for it immediately, found it for free on Plex, and just finished watching it! We loved it! Even Hubby did and he is not a Marvelette like me! The ending (no spoilers here) lends itself to a sequel if called for, but I'm sure there won't be one:
[from Wikipedia: "Mortal grossed $126,068 worldwide...against a production budget of about $7.4 million...plus $2,316 with home video sales."] Yikes, that's bad and further it had "generally unfavorable reviews." 🥺
But, we can't understand why it doesn't have a gigantic cult following. Maybe needs more time and word-of-mouth like this.
I also suspect a lot of audiences did not appreciate that some portions of dialogue are in Norwegian without subtitles. We had no trouble understanding what was being spoken...just opened our minds and let it flow! 👍
I also think Disney+ should by it and put it in as a Marvel-adjacent selection. The tale very much respects those stories! 🤞

  9. I've always loved red color. My mother dressed me in my child age in red; just the same red as your kitchen items; love them 🤩

  10. Having just visited Barbara's blog, I am reminded that reds can be the colors of anger and of power. I like that. I like yours.

  15. Oh la la. Carmine is a totally me color. If I had room to add anything it would be in that color. Yes

  16. I think you have to have that 4th color rod in your eye to see the difference between carmine and red.

  17. Love these plastic toys. So nostalgic

  18. I must be an outlier because I loathe red, orange and bright yellow. My preference is for the cool colours of blue, white, silver and pale greens. The only red I can stand is on Deadpool, LOL!

  19. @ Boud -- My sister advises that she bought the teapot from BBC Canada's online retail website and that it was made by the same British company that makes the famous "Brown Betty" teapots.

  20. I love red pops of color in a white kitchen.

  21. I love your selections, the utensils and teapot especially. And I didn't even know about Thor action figures. I won't be collecting any though, I have no space. I might look for a red/carmine teapot though. Red is my older sister's favourite colour and I try to buy her something red for Christmas or birthdays. Thank you for joining in.

  28. I’ve recently got the urge to spruce up the kitchen. I had to buy a new coffee machine, its red.
I have an old fashioned milkshake maker, it’s red
And a brand new kettle. Also red.
It must just be in the air lol

  29. Great collection of Carmine things! I'm happy to see how well you used the colour of the month! I use blue for those accents, so can't do ;)

  32. In Spanish, carmín is a shade of red too!
This is the most badass shade of red, tbh.

    XOXO

  33. Because i am a redhead, I was never allowed to wear red, mum said it didn't go with my hair! But I love red, and I have a red winter jacket. red looks so good on a snowy day!

  34. Love it! I also have a red and white kitchen. Very cheery!

  35. Red is one of my favourite colours.

  36. Oh! I love bits of red here and there. It is such a color of cheer!

  37. I'd never heard of carmine before, so you taught me something. My kitchen has way too much white, so I also used red in it to cheer it up. Favorite Young Man painted the walls red long ago, and I added red pots and pans. Love your action figures.

    Love,
    Janie

  38. Hello Debra, I am not sure that I could distinguish carmine from other shades of red, even after looking at the sample and reading the definition. Of course, a lot of Chinese objects are red, but usually not so bright as the objects you showed us. I recall in Cleveland we used to drive by a house that had all red lampshades (and many of them) so that the effect was a house of ill repute.
