Sunday Selections & Sunday in the Art Room -- My Art Space

This post is for both:

Sunday Selections, a blog hop party of photography
hosted by River of Drifting Through Life

and

Sunday in the Art Room, a link party
about art issues hosted by Nicole of

Nicole's challenge for us this week is:

"Show us your art space."

I don't have a separate art room per se.
I just work at my dining area table.

I need to use a lamp because my place
has very harsh track lighting
which throws terrible shadows.

But I do have a kind of "art space"
specially dedicated to keeping all
my art supplies in one place
for ease of storage and retrieval --
this IKEA bureau beside the
sideboard close to my table.

It also serves a dual purpose
of being the location of
my monthly Full Moon Altars.

And here are the art supplies
in each of its four drawers
in descending order.

First Drawer:
watercolours --

Second Drawer:
coloured art pencils,
pen-and-ink,
graphite drawing --

Third Drawer:
miscellaneous art and craft supplies --

Fourth Drawer:
sketchbooks, portfolios,
stands and portable easel --

  2. ...wow, you are so organized!

  3. WAY too organized. My space looks like it was visited by a band of coked out raccoons live there, except for the space directly in front of me on the desk, that's where the OCD kicks in.

  4. Nice art space. I have a space too, but sometimes it is quite the mess while I am figuring things out. I don't draw, but I do 'create' scenes and build odd stuff.
    Nice place.

  5. Your drawers are so organized. My office doubles as my art space and hasn’t been doing a very good job of it. But it just dawned on my that my glass and chrome desk is so large (it was a dining room table) that I can sit on one side and work at my computer and use the opposite side as my art table! By the way, the camel drawing looks amazing.

  6. I give you extra points for organization!! But I imagine it helps to keep the creativity flowing!

  7. You are so neat and organized. I blame my mess on not have space, but really it is just me being messy. Thanks for sharing.

  8. I love seeing where people live. I also appreciate your organization:)

  9. I have art spaces. Mostly they are a confusion of whatever it is I've been concentrating on or what I WAS concentrating on and have left in a jumble, planning to get "right back to it."
    I should do better.

  10. That's amazingly neat. I continue to make art, but the space is wherever I am at the time these days. I have a bit of storage, but I keep freecycling art materials to eager takers, so it's shrinking.

  11. You are so organized. I'm impressed, Debra.

  12. That's actually the perfect size or space for you I would think considering the size of your works are not gigantic sizes. And everything is mostly contained. At first glance I thought the storage bins next to the bureau we're all going to be also art supplies. It's nice you do your artwork near your full noon altar.

  13. Ohhhh WOW. I wish I had an Ikea close to me. I would love some drawers like that. You are so darned organized. I love your art space. As I said it doesn't matter where we create as long as we create. And, your art is so spectacular. Thank you dear friend for joining SITAR. I enjoyed seeing your art space. Ohhh and that lamp. I had that same lamp for years and it finally bit the dust. It is the best lighting. Have a great day.

    1. @ DVArtist -- Yes, I am known to be quite RUTHLESSLY organized, lol. I rescued that desk lamp from my workplace years ago when it was going to be thrown out. It has served me well ever since.

    1. @ Anonymous (Codex) -- Yes, go to the beginning of this post and click on the reference to DVArtist, Art, Food, Gardening. It will take you to Nicole's blog where the link party participants are listed. Click on them to go to their blogs. Thanks for your interest!

  15. Such organization, I need to take a lesson from you.

  16. You put me to shame. I have drawers filled with same, but never pull them out! I have new pillow shams cut out (for a year) that I haven't sewn! I have a baby knitted blanket on the go. I have 4 new embroidery kits I haven't opened and my plants need watering!!! I will sew on that button today!

  17. Now I understand why someone called your place "minimalist": you've got next level storage and organizational skill! Though I'm a little surprised you don't have some of your beautiful artworks framed and hanging on the wall to inspire you.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @ Tundra Bunny -- I don't frame or display any of my artwork, actually. When a piece is done, I take a photo of it for the blog and then put the original in a portfolio in Drawer #4. Then I'm ready to move on to the next challenge.

  19. A lovely organized space. I think when you don't have so much space, you're much more organized - you simply have to. I agree with you about the light, I have trouble with those shadows as well. Oh, and I love the mug sitting on your table and I try to figure out what is on it - a dog? Coyote? Wolf? Something else?

    1. @ Carola Bartz -- It's a cat snoozing on a fence with its legs hanging down. This mug was made by a local potter and I just got it about a month ago!

  21. How well organized you are! It looks like you have a very nice art space, and I know what you mean about needing lamps due to track lighting.

  22. I wish you a wonderful rest of the sunday and the same for the next week. I don´t have an art space...I simply am not talented in this. I sometimes play with my guitar...just for fun and singing.
Thanks for your kind visits to my blog.
    Have a good time

  23. That's a super art cabinet. I like how when you close the drawers hide those supplies. And I like that camel I spied on your table under the light. Happy new week to you.

  24. All that organization gives me the heeby jeebies.

  25. Love this. I am all about organization, a place for everything and everything in its place.

  26. I do like a nicely organised set of drawers. I have Ikea drawers too, with notebooks, pencils etc but a couple of drawers are labelled "stuff" and they're messy while all the rest are neat.

  27. Ooh, I love how you organized your art supplies, Debra!

  28. I need to up my game, I have no art corner but have an old laptop bag that gets slung around and contains my paints, brushes, paper and anything else art related. As I have two spare rooms I have no excuse! still suffering empty nest syndrome (even put christmas duvets on the spare beds in December, just in case, how sad is that!)... I think I would be more likely to paint if my 'stuff' was more accessible so will claim a room immediately and get on with it :) i like your altars too btw and think I will make myself a nature altar type thingy. 30. How cool. I love BTS content. Great to see behind the scenes. You are super duper talented. Always great to see your art too.

  31. Oh, I wish my wife's art stuff was so contained. There are bins in a hallway, carts in the extra bedroom, and shelves in the garage!

    ReplyDelete
  32. So nice an organized! I try. I try hard. Then the kids come along...and since we homeschool, they're here ALL the time making messes behind me. LOL. What can you do? I love how clean your space is.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thanks for the peek behind the curtain! Organization is something I admire but rarely achieve. My art is fabric based and takes up an entire room. It is all sorted by color and type, however, so I'll give myself credit for that.
    Love your work in progress!

  34. I love how you've made great use of your space, and of course, that you are so organized!
Deb, I noted that your handwriting is lovely, and it's so similar to my Aunt Trisha's handwriting. ❤️

  35. IKEA right? I need to go look online to see what they got. My art table is covered in stuff. I need to really get organized.

    ReplyDelete
  36. So what you're telling me is you're organized and talented. Bitch! 😁

    ReplyDelete
  37. A nice organized place for your art and supplies.

  38. Nice organization. I strive to keep stuff well organized. Then entropy sneaks in and I have to organize all over again.

    1. @ Liz Hinds -- And the funny thing is, I thought before I took the photos "Should I straighten up the messiness?" (especially in the watercolours drawer). And then decided "No, just photograph it as it is!"
