Okay, Wolverine is not a goody-two-shoes
in ANYONE'S book. He's a
foul-mouthed, vicious animal and
a frequent, remorseless killer.
But sometimes he sort of means well
and hey, he can be kind of noble
occasionally, with great reluctance.
Yes, I'm rationalizing.
The truth of the matter is that
I give Wolverine a free pass
simply because he is Canadian.
HE'S WHAT??????
James "Logan" Howlett was born
a couple of centuries ago in the
North-West Territories of Canada,
in what is now northern Alberta.
His declassified documents, records and journals are
maintained by Libraries and Archives Canada.
So what if they were publicly released on April 1st?
That date is of no significance.
What more proof do you need?
And if Wolverine is Canadian,
doesn't it mean that, by default,
he is . . . .
Oh, still not convinced that Wolverine
qualifies as a superhero for National Superhero Day?
Wanna make something of it, Bub?

...and TODAY IS NATIONAL BRAVE HEARTS DAY.
ReplyDeleteWith a name like Wolverine he has to be Canadian. Or Alaskan. But I bet there's more wolverines in Canada than Alaska. So of course he's Canadian. :)
ReplyDeleteHugh Jackman as Wolverine makes me weak.
ReplyDeleteNow I need to lay down.
XOXO
I now want a day without Marvel comics/MCU in the media. Because I know a week would be asking for too much. I loved, loved, loved the X-Men movies when they started, when getting a superhero film off the ground was still an exploit.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, people must remember that originally, heroes as defined by the Greeks were not meant to be particularly moral, goodie goodie two shoes even less so. Heroes were meant to be defined by the extraordinary things they were doing. A lot of them were cads and philanderers, some were cruel, they have more in common with what we would nowadays define (wrongly) as antiheroes. So yeah, Wolverine is definitely a hero.
Oh and fun fact, the Sureté du Québec's Escouades régionales mixtes, the squads to fight organised crime, are nicknamed Carcajou, aka Wolverine. The name they had back in the 90s.
ReplyDelete@ Guillaume -- Thanks for teaching me a new French word today! So when they dub the X-men movies into French, do they call Wolverine "Carcajou"? Hmmm, I wonder.
DeleteHugh Jackman and his Huge Ackman.
ReplyDeleteI admit I don't know much about the history of Marvel comics, but I *did* watch the movies with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, so there's that :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I personally always liked Wolverine. And, yes. He's still a super hero,.
ReplyDeleteI don't know whether to be proud or ashamed that even after being the grandmother of four boys I still know nothing about either Marvel heroes or Pokemon. I'm not even sure that's how it's spelled.
ReplyDeleteYou are very convincing. Well done.
ReplyDeleteA hero with depth, troubled and real. One of my favourites.
ReplyDeleteI have never been into any comics and I really don't like the movies. However, this is a very good post.
ReplyDeleteWolverine, Deadpool, and Rocket Raccoon are all Superheros! And being Canadian, my response to those who would disagree with that is F*ck Off, eh?!
ReplyDelete@ Tundra Bunny -- And the Winter Soldier as well! He's a good guy superhero on a redemption arc now too!
DeleteI am not into Superheroes but enjoyed the post, Debra.
ReplyDeleteI never read Marvel comics and am not very knowledgeable in this aspect. When I hear of Superhero, somehow Batman and Spiderman come to mind! LOL! :)
ReplyDeleteEye candy for sure!
ReplyDeleteWell then of course he’s nice! Eh?
ReplyDeleteThere been wolverine here at one time.
ReplyDeleteI believe 100%! Of COURSE he's Canadian!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy a good remorseless killer.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
You have a soft spot for him lol
ReplyDeleteI like Wolverine! Canadian or not. I don't think I have seen all the movies yet, not really a Marvel Comics reader.
ReplyDeleteWell, if we are going to give Wolverine a nationality, Hugh Jackman is an Aussie like me, so there! Have you seen the lastest film, Deadpool And Wolverine? They bring him back by making him from another universe,
ReplyDelete@ Sue Bursztynski -- Yes, I love that movie!
DeleteWhat a great rationalizer you are! 😂
