Monday Murals -- GO OILERS GO!

I'm taking part today in
Monday Murals hosted by Sami.

Well, this is a kind of mural, isn't it,
even if it's made out of soft drink boxes?
I took this photo at my local
Save-On Foods grocery store.

The team colours of our
Edmonton Oilers hockey club
are blue and orange. The 2-month
long playoffs road for a chance to win
the 2026 Stanley Cup has just started.

Speaking of Save-On Foods, that's where
I also spotted the following on a poster display
a couple of years ago during another playoffs run --

An Oilers Prayer

Our Father, who art in Edmonton,
Hockey be thy name.
Thy will be done, the Cup be won
On ice, as well as in the stands.
Give us this day our hockey sticks
And forgive us our penalties,
As we forgive those who cross-check against us.
Lead us not into elimination,
But deliver us to victory.
In the name of the Fans,
Lord Stanley, and the Holy Oilers.
Amen.

  1. Sure it's a mura;, but what's this hockey you speak of???

  2. My ex would love this post! If you recall he had a room painted in the blue color and had a whole rug in the room with their colors on it and it even said Oilers on it in big letters. Buster loved the room.

  3. Definitely a mural! Very ingenious! Ah, yes, the never-ending playoffs!

  4. To think before I knew Debra I'd never heard of the Oilers. Hard to believe now.

  5. Very creative! Once again the Blues' wheels fell off and they will only be watching the playoffs.

  6. It looks like a mural at plain first sight dear Debra
Best of luck to go oilers 👍

    1. @ Ms Moon -- Then you don't know that for the last two seasons, Edmonton was defeated in the Stanley Cup finals by the Florida Panthers? There is now a mighty, MIGHTY rivalry between our two hockey clubs,

  8. That is either a mural or a collage.
    Either way, it's mighty fine!

🇨🇦🏒 Rabid Canadian hockey fans? I get it; I love it! I recently became a fan of the Flin Flon Bombers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. Well, a fan of one of the team traditions anyway.
🫎 After a win in a major game, the Bombers throw a frozen moose leg onto the ice!! Because of course they do!! 🤪🤣
This became a superstition...you must do it or you will lose your next big game. It also became a curse aimed at opposing teams.
Back in 2016, an opposing player tried to abscond with the leg. The resulting brawl was epic and the curse was born! New merch was also born! "Don't Mess With The Moose Leg!" 🤬 Classic Canadian, eh?! 🇨🇦🤭

    1. @ Cleora Borealis -- I had not heard of that Frozen Moose Leg tradition but it is fabulous! The legendary hockey star Bobby Clarke was born in Flin Flon and played with the Bombers until spending his NHL pro career with the Philadelphia Flyers. There's an iconic photo of him hoisting the Stanley Cup with a huge grin and absolutely no front teeth left.

  10. I love how accurately those boxes are stacked! Orange and blue really pop.

  11. "Save-On Foods" is an interesting name for your favoured supermarket but I would argue that the final "s" is redundant and wrong because "food" is plural already. Could you please address this matter with the store manager next time you pop in there for your California wine, Wisconsin beer and Carolina cigars.

    1. @ Yorkshire Pudding -- You are right, of course, so I will do as you advise. Just FYI, in Canada, grocery stores cannot sell alcohol or cigarettes/cigars. We are pure that way.

  15. I LOVE the prayer, Debra. Good luck to the Oilers.

  16. I love the prayer. I’ve been two hockey gamers in my entire life, one when I was at university (the university team) and one when I worked at Yale. I’m afraid I didn’t get it. But I would have had a ball building that “mural.”

  17. Great choice for a mural this week. I love the prayer too, which should be on a T-shirt raising funds for the Food Bank. And since the Panthers didn't even make the play-offs this year, we won't have to hear that cheesy panther growl after every goal or watch rubber rats thrown onto the ice in Edmonton, YAY! GO OILERS!

    1. @ Tundra Bunny -- OMG I hadn't heard that! I just assumed the Panthers would be a threat again, since they are the defending Stanley Cup champs! Holy moly, how the mighty have fallen, if they didn't even make the playoffs this year! Yes, Shirley's voodoo doll did the trick! Hahahahahahaha!

  20. I am not a sports fan except for bowling, but I really like this mural.

  21. Love the Orange Crush spelling out Oilers! You have to think the employees enjoyed doing that job! I would have!!

  22. Just showed John your post and he loved it!

  23. That soda box mural is genius! Talk about a festive way to display soft drinks. I'm with you on the 'Oilers Prayer'—'Forgive us our penalties' is a line we could all probably use in daily life. It sounds like playoff fever is officially in full swing. Good luck to the team and hopefully this is the year!

  24. I don't know how far the Bruins will get this year, but I do like that Oilers mural display. It's a cool idea.!

  25. I'll cheer your Oilers on, Debra, unless they're playing my Avs. Love the grocery store mural and the prayer which is hilarious.

  26. Great mural and great way to support your team. I like the prayer/poem too.

  27. How very clever
I have no idea who the oilers are or who they’re playing against.
But I hope they do well just for you

  28. Sure Oilers Players need much freshreshment;
may be your mural is photographed in their locker room 😅

  29. Unsurprisingly, my team is out (Kraken, sigh) so I'm all in for the Oilers. My Edmontonian friends - even though they now live in Kelowna - are excited and anxious, living on antacids.

  30. That really is a fabulous idea!!
