Sunday Selections # 792 -- Colour of the Month: Gold.

For today's Sunday Selections,
a blog hop party of photography challenges
hosted by River of Drifting Through Life --

I'm fulfilling the Colour of the Month prompt
provided by Charlotte of MotherOwl's Musings.

This month's colour is Gold.

Here's a few photos of gold (or gilded) items
from my travels over the years --

1. Uffizi Gallery, Florence, Italy (2008)

A corridor ceiling overflowing with
golden-framed Renaissance paintings.

2. Brooklyn Public Library, New York (2009)

On one of its entrance columns, the Goddess Athena
with the Python of Delphi at her feet.

3. Coronation Chair, Westminster Abbey,
 London, England (2009)

The ancient Chair itself is wood, but
the four Lions supporting it are gilded.

The empty space just above the Lions is
where the Stone of Scone is placed
for the Coronation ceremony.

4. Temple of the Golden Pavilion,
Kyoto, Japan (2012)

This photo was taken from the back,
on the shore of the lake
which the Temple overlooks.

5. Sweet Cake Plate, Uji City, Japan (2012)

I was served this sweet cake
on a golden glazed ceramic plate
at the start of a Tea Ceremony.

  5. It's amazing the things emperors, kings, and the like did with the taxes, isn't it?

  6. Perhaps it is the effect of enduring the convicted felon in the Whitehouse's excesses, but all the gold stuff now looks tacky to me.

🥰 Thank you, Debra, for pictures of real gold. And thank you for not including Ol' Sphincter Face in the collection...but I'm gonna take this opportunity. 🤨
🤢 The "gold" in Trump's NY penthouse and at Mar-a-Lardo is so obviously cheap gilt that it boggles the mind how people who are wealthy can be dazzled by it! 🤪 But, slathering it all over the Oval Bordello at the WH is an insult to all of us! Low-class, tasteless, born-rich gutter trash don't develop style just because they have lots of money! Trump won't even spend a coupla bucks on a decent suit, a tailor, or a hair and makeup specialist! 🤡💩

  8. I remember when I was eighteen and visited the Vatican. I looked up at the ceiling and any idea I might have had about The Church following the admonition of Jesus concerning the piling up of riches were completely shattered.
Your examples here are mostly much more relatable. I especially love that Coronation Chair. It's so...Game of Thrones-y.
But honestly, the plate is the best.

  9. Oh Debra, these are exceptional photos. Have a nice Sunday.

  10. I love the plate. My mother might have put it in her purse (if she was carrying a big enough purse; it depends on how formal things were).

  14. Beautiful, Debra. I'm glad there were no oval office pics in there. ;-)

  15. I understand Trump endorses this color choice of the month!

  16. The plate is lovely. Ostentatious displays of gold are off-putting.
My mother developed a fondness for dishes with a gold border and I was delighted to get rid of all of those! Can't put them in the microwave...

  17. You haven't visited the White House recently adorned with all that gold fungus??? 😂. Seriously, your travel photos are beautiful, Debra!

  18. Lovely representations of gold. Ah, Florence, how I would love to see it!

  20. Lots of gold. It is a pretty colour don’t you think?

  21. This gold looks very tasteful and beautiful.

  22. Some great pictures, and unlike some other gold I can think of, none of it charged to the taxpayers.

  23. These are amazing! I am glad you didn't include any of Trump's images. I like the gold spattered plate. I see plenty of gold rimmed dinnerware in op-shops (thrift stores) they are beautiful but nobody wants things that can't go in the dishwasher or microwave. I still have a few pieces but they are packed away and never used.

  24. Once upon a time I heard a podcast titled "Men do not wear yellow; apparently all clothes catalogs call it gold or lemon anything but yellow.

  25. Thank you for making gold respectable and beautiful again.
