As part of our Mystical England: Journey to Avalon tour last September, we spent two days in Cornwall. Tintagel, the legendary birthplace of King Arthur, is located on the rugged Cornish coast. The ruins of Tintagel Castle are found at the top of a very steep cliff. At the cliff's base is Merlin's Cave, located on the sea's rocky shoreline. In the next few posts, I'll tell you all about our Arthurian adventures.
The other interesting spot which we visited during our brief stay in Cornwall was the Museum of Witchcraft in the town of Boscastle. I'll post some pictures and comments about that, too.

Cornwall is the only area in England my soul feels at peace.
ReplyDeleteLast time we were at the museum, it was just after a flood. But since then they've had another. How has it held up?
Bohemianshadows, everything is back to normal in Boscastle. You'd never know they suffered terrible flooding in the recent past.

ReplyDeleteas you know I have a direct link to Cornwall (at least to the 14th century) and I think I live the furtherest away that I possibly could. ever since I was a little girl, my soul has yearned for a place that I have never been to.

ReplyDeleteI followed King Arthur to Tintagel 35 years ago. I loved the place - it was broody and stormy - just the right atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteOh! I love Arthurian Legend! I read The Crystal Cave trilogy when I was like 15 (Mary Stuart) and was hooked. Then, Camelot! Oy. My parents really learned to hate that album. I played it forever. We recently saw a stage production of it here in L.A. So I wait with eager anticipation, your stories of Arthur. How lucky you were to go there. And Merlin's cave??! Sigh. Wouldn't it be cool to know that he actually existed? Backwards? :p)

ReplyDeleteSitting here in the motel in Rochester, waiting to leave for the Mayo Clinic, and my hubby's appointments, I'm FINALLY getting to catch up on your delightful blog, and what a perfect time! I LOVE the King Arthurian "legends". .I prefer to think of them as historical truths. :-) and have purposely started back her at the beginning to enjoy the journey as you lay it out. Of course, I couldn't resist taking a peek at your glorious photos as I went back through time though. Luscious! What a wonderful trip you took! I'm SO jealous! lol
