There is Only One

Many actors have portrayed the iconic Mr. Darcy over the years but as far as I'm concerned, there is only one who is worthy to don the high-collared Regency coat and foppish cravat --

Yes, that's right. Colin Firth is the only Mr. Darcy for me. Long-time readers of this blog know that he has inexplicably captured my middle-aged lesbian heart and reduced me to a 5.9 on the Kinsey Scale instead of a perfect 6 (click here for details, if you must).

Her Royal Highness has her own opinion on this matter, of course. She much prefers another candidate --

Well, HRH . . . *shrug* . . . to each their own, I suppose. Just don't start up with that cosplay nonsense again . . . oh damn, too late.

  1. Elliot Cowan is my fave. I have the honour of being followed by him at Twitter and he is such a charming and humble gent! I'm currently waiting for an interview with him :)

  2. That was so fun, reading back on all the links to past-posts! I love Colin too, and loved him as Mr Darcy in that Bridgette Jones diary too... As himself. Now I really, really want to watch this! Hope it is on Netflix... Maybe I have it on VHS... Love camping, hate sweet wine, slightly tarnished, have a great day!

  4. My favorite Mr. Darcy will always be from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies...

  5. In total agreement...clear winner in the Mr. Darcy category..Colin Firth gets the prize.

  6. Colin Firth has inexplicably turned my middle aged (and distinctively heterosexual) head more than a few times. We bought the series on VHS for my older daughter when she was younger and we have watched the whole damn thing a few times as my youngest daughter got old enough to appreciate Firth as Mister Darcy.

I read the book and saw the Olivier version when I was younger, but the lavish television adaptation is definitive. Aside from my admiration for Colin Firth's performance I also have a little crush on Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth (but that's a secret. Don't tell anybody).

  9. I do have to agree with you about Colin Firth! Of course, I had to go over and read your post about the Kinsey Scale...and loved it! Perhaps you can write about it again and see what all the newbies (a lot of them are bloggers I circulate with) would say about that/who they'd consider switching for. That should be fun.

  14. Hey there! I have comment moderation, which might be a drag, but it is convenient when it comes to spam and it is the only way to make sure i do not miss any comment.
Whenever i bought Solomon's Seal always looked like small slices of wood. This is why i always have to hide it because it can be easily mistaken by someone who does n't know , for filth and thrown away. It is very cheap from herbal stores or pagan stores, and for that i definitely recommend it. Brightest blessings!

  15. I have a soft spot for Colin as well and watch films just because he's in them.

PS I just ordered two Pirate Babes for HRH's crew. There are two more that I want to buy. Suzy Swagger is going to join her crew and that will give her five lovely ladies to do her bidding.

  16. Oh yes Colin please! Although I must say HRH has exquisite taste with the Feline Mr. Darcy

  17. I agree -- Colin Firth it is! HRH is something else -- although I can begin to see what she *sees* in her Mr. Darcy!

  18. Colin Firth is also my favorite! Of course HRH would prefer a Tuxedo Cat! She's getting kind of uppity!LOL!

  22. Yep! I can see and understand that attraction!!

  23. I think Mr. Darcy has some sort of magic on him that makes him irresistible to women. And I guess lesbians aren't immune.

Colin Firth is also my favorite. :)

Hmm, maybe I need to write some on this topic over on my book blog...

  24. Mmmm... Colin Firth :) I have to admit that he gets my pulse a racing like very few can. He is one yummy specimen. I could go on, but I'll stop myself now, lol!!! Doesn't surprise me that he might have a small chance at getting you to switch teams (if only temporarily :)

  25. But--but--but--that's OLIVIER up there!?!?! You know, the origin of the phrase 'tall, dark, and handsome'?

    Splutter!

No I don't really know what I'm talking about as Jane Austin has never done anything for me. I find the whole 'struggling within the ridiculous social mores of the time' drama stuff too much to handle. Watching scenes of family tension at a dinner table silent but for the creak of the chairs and the click of the spoons in the soup bowls makes me kind of batty. I just kind of can't deal, ha.

  26. It's amazing how similar they all look. Bloody casting directors for you, eh? Also I had no idea the ladies were so crazy for Colin Firth.

  27. Colin was good but for me, I just melt at the sight and sound of Matthew Macfayden. (Don't tell Richard!!!)
Besides, my mother-in-law in England loves Colin Firth, people cut out his picture and paste it on birthday cards for her!

  28. A few years ago, my friend had a girls' night and we watched the scene where he jumps into the lake ONLY TO SEE HIM SOAKING WET. That's right, a whole bunch of us "grown ups."

  29. Collin Firth, yes, he portrayed Mr Darcy greatly! I don't know whether he looks like a real English man, but he looks like a real man for sure. I like his acting in almost all the movies he took part in. Great actor!

  32. Your team gives out stars? WTF? What else is going on over there that I don't know about.

OK, a woman that I am somewhat attracted to. Ellen.

  33. Amen to Colin. Hope you're staying warm, Debra!

  34. Hey Debra ;o) I had to go back and read all your posts! Now I know everything! I don't blame you for not liking to go camping! LOL! Colin Firth, all the way! I agree with you! Thanks for the smiles HRH ;o)

  35. I wonder if Mr. Darcy's sideburns have their own twitter account.
