BAD. Bad to the Bone.

It took me nearly 62 years but I have FINALLY DONE IT! Yes, I have joined the ranks of BAD REBELLIOUS KIDS at last. HOW, you ask?

You may remember that I was taking two lecture classes at ELLA (Edmonton Lifelong Learners Association) -- "Maps & Cartography" and "Jesus and Buddha: Historical Origins."

Well, I ditched them.

That's right.

You heard me.

DITCHED THEM! In the second week. I just quit going.

I tried but I simply could NOT get into passive lecture-listening mode. It took more willpower than I possess to sit there day after day. Sorry to disappoint those of you who were looking forward to hearing about those courses, but I NEED TO BE FREE, MAN!

The only class I continued with to completion was "Drawing for Beginners" because I TRULY ENJOYED it. That one class was more than enough for me.

Sorry to let you down, Captain America. Can I punch TWO Nazis to make up for it?

Stay tuned, everyone, I hope to post some of my ARTWORK early next week! That'll be a treat, I tells ya.

  2. Hey, I ditched my classes at Lifelong Learning as well. Boring, boring, boring. Haven't gone in two years.

  3. Lol well it's never a dull moment and you remind me so much of a good friend from high school lol yes I can see you ditching that class. I am so glad you're doing the art class! You have an amazing imagination and I just know you will excel at it! You're going to have a ball, take a painting course too or just get the paints and fly with it , I just know you will be great at this and you will enjoy it! Freedom of exspression, what's not to love!.

  5. Well, I authorize you to punch the Nazis. Then we can watch Captain America walk away. That badonkadonk, honey.
And I’m glad you stopped going. The Socratic method!

  8. YES!!!!!! There is nothing as deadly to brain stimulation than lecture mode. Nothing, nada. You are my Bad Ass Hero/ine! Can't wait to see the drawing - now that is more my cup o' tea.

  9. Hello Debra, At least you'll have plenty of time to finish those drawings while you are sitting in detention hall. I can't wait for a peek at them!

  13. ha! that's the good thing about getting older. we don't have to do anything we don't want to do. i have a LOT of trouble sitting still!

  14. Oh, I can just see it. Debra with the rest of the Lifelong Truants, smoking (ugh) clove cigarettes behind the school and sneaking off during lunchtime to play pool. "Maps?" she says, "where I'm going, I don't need no stinking MAPS. When I get out of here I'll get a good job at the FACTORY, or maybe I'll just RETIRE. I don't need no stinking BLOGGING neither."

Then the report card comes. Two failures and a pass. "Debra is very intelligent," it reads, "but she needs to apply herself more consistently to reach her full potential." In response, Debra discreetly abandons said report card in the nearest trashcan. When her Rare One asks, she feigns innocence. "Oh, that?" she says. "There are no report cards at this school."

  15. GOOD FOR YOU!!! I am so proud of you for just letting go of something you probably felt obligated to complete but didn't want to do so. I am to the point in my life that when I am reading a book I don't finish it if I don't love it. I used to feel that I HAD to finish a book if I started it-lol. I don't let the 'guilt' grab me like it once did. xo Diana

  17. Oh I can't wait to see the artwork! I would have quit the lectures too. I get bored way too easily to sit through any kind of talk.

  18. I did wonder how long you'd last, soldier! Probably longer than I expected :PP Is the artwork naughty? Tell me it is!

  19. Congrats of graduating early in "Finding Your Own Path Studies", friend D. Very proud of you and also somewhat envious as am 63 and determined to live, lie and work in the health care field for 2 more years unless I win the lottery ... which ever comes first ... Anyway, much love, eh? cat.

  23. Not a big deal. I would probably have ditched those two classes too. They both sounded boring to begin with. Now an acting class or pottery would have me there in seconds.

  24. You're a rebel, Dottie, a loner.

  25. I look forward to seeing some of your artwork!

  26. No point wasting your time on shit that you aren't enjoying. Life's too short.

  27. Yes, I was excitedly waiting to hear about your classes. The important part is you tried. Although you learned you are not up for lecture classes, no matter how interesting the subject, now you know to go forward with more active learning. There is a lot out there and, of course, you can take your drawing as far as you want to go. I say Job Well Done for trying.

  28. You go, girl! Life is too short to sit still and listen to crap you don't feel like listening to!

  29. You've definitely got to do what makes you happy.
Look forward to seeing your artwork.

    All the best Jan

  36. I don't blame you a bit..It must be as bad as going to a meeting..I gave them up long ago...It might work if they had recliners and served wine..Have a Happy Holiday.

  37. Bonnie Raitt sang, "Life gets mighty precious when there's less of it to waste." That is so very true. I'm for ditching anything that doesn't fill you (or me) up! When I retired I was so sick of commitments that I didn't want to come out of my cave for weeks. I groused about even having coffee with a friend. Fortunately that didn't last long. But I'm still very choosy, and a calendar day without anything on it fills me with glee. Can't wait to see your art! Have a good one!

  38. I walked out of a class once. You see, the name of the class was "Philosophy of Religion", and the description said that it aimed to discuss belief from religious and secular perspectives. Want to know what the professor actually did? Lecture from a Christian perspective (and not just Christian, but a very closed-minded perspective) about what was wrong with pretty much any other religion that wasn't the one favored by him, how they made little sense, and let's not start about what he thought of non-religious living.

I attended 3 classes. During the first, I listened... (in mild shock) tried to debate and was cut off (my "behavior was disruptive", I was told). During the second class, I told the professor what I thought about his behavior and walked out.

    So... welcome to the club!

  39. Well shame on the teacher for not capturing your attention to want to stay. Good for you for ditching them !! Now you can put more focus on the classes you enjoy and the drawing class has definitely paid off. Great job!
    Have a great weekend

  40. Glad you found you like drawing. My drawing it therapy for me, I can put my fears, dreams, emotions and dreams on paper then I have control over them.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh Buddha, Oh Jesus, how could you be bored. Jesus was full of miracles, I don't know if Buddha had a miracle show. Well at least you were not a class disruptor

  42. No shame whatsoever in quitting something you don't enjoy...life's too short to continue doing things that you hate!!!
I wouldn't have enjoyed those classes either but, if I thought I had a lick of talent, the drawing class would be a blast....

    ReplyDelete
  43. LOL! You rebel!!! I don't blame you Deb! I think I would have done the same thing! I can't wait to see your art! Big Hugs!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ha! That's funny! I woulda stuck with the drawing class, too...Looking forward to seeing your work!

  45. You couldn't let us down. Lectures are so boring. Why, oh why, do they not understand that it's much more interesting to talk with versus at a classroom? Sorry to learn about that, but excited to see your artwork.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh it's hard to just sit and listen. Much better to get involved with something. Looking forward to seeing your artwork.

  47. Brava! To you on all accounts!

  48. Three classes at the same time is too many. One class is appropriate. So, you have not given up, you have reevaluated and made necessary adjustments. Such a smart student!

Looking forward to seeing the artwork!
