And Now, In Tarot News

Here's a round-up of three tarot-related items that are currently of interest to me. I hope you find them entertaining as well.

1. Wisdom of the Cailleach Oracle Deck

Irish artist Jane Brideson, who blogs at The Ever-Lasting Ones, is going to publish a gorgeous oracle deck in the summer of 2020 celebrating the Crone Goddess, known in Ireland as The Cailleach. I've signed up for my copy already! Now that I'm in the Crone stage of life myself, her imagery speaks directly to me.

The art for this deck is so beautiful and compelling that I had great difficulty choosing only a couple of examples to show you here --

You can see more card images here and get additional info about this forthcoming deck at its facebook page.

2. Good Omens in Tarot

Have you seen the new AmazonPrime/BBC mini-series Good Omens, based on the cult classic novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman? I highly recommend it! Who knew Armageddon could be such fun? And this may be blasphemy, but I think the film version is even better than the book! Michael Sheen as Aziraphale the angel and David Tennant as Crowley the demon are simply outstanding in their respective roles.

'Lena, a self-described "geeky art goblin," who blogs at Better a Witty Fool Than a Foolish Wit, has recently created two wonderful tarot cards honouring that conflicted pair, which I must share with you!

3. My New Tarot T-shirt

Squeeeeeeee! My Rare One bought me this awesome t-shirt in Vancouver when we were there in August! It's going to become my new favourite thing to wear, especially when I'm doing a tarot reading. Isn't it perfect?

Now, you may think it's tacky, but I'll have you know that when I was visiting my sister earlier this month and wore it out in public for the first time, I got THREE compliments on it from complete strangers! In Walmart and Tim Horton's, if you must know, but still.

  2. that cat is seeing right through me!

  3. I think I was born as a crone! That's a nice T-shirt!

  4. The decks are so beautiful and fascinating. I like the Crone ones too. The 'Sweet and Sexy' decks always give me upside down cards. SHUDDER!

I am amazed with the creativity of tarot cards but also of the presentation of the web pages. Appearances really are important.

  5. OMG Good Omens in Tarot? I need a reading!
    And your new T-shirt RULES!

I’ve always wanted to have a Tarot reading, but I’ve never known of anybody that does the,.

    XoXo

  6. I like your Cailleach Oracle Deck. I have several decks myself, all of which speak to me.

  7. So that cat's going to read my fortune? How exactly do I interpret "Meow"?

  8. I've the tree shirt, that is so you. I haven't had my tarots read in some time. The witchcraft shop I go to , to buy my cedar wood to burn to cleanse the house reads. I should have it done again.

  9. I love that shirt!! I've been waiting for Good Omens to begin. I think the only reason I have my Amazon Prime membership is to watch that show.

  10. That T-shirt! Are you doing the reading for the cat, or is the cat doing the reading for you?

Sixpence: Dr Spo offers to do Tarot readings for his blogger-buddies from time to time. They are over the Internet but I suppose that is better than nothing.

  11. I looove the T Shirt, friend D! Have a growing collection of cat t shirts and hoodies myself, and always enjoy/ count the comments of peeps when out in public. My latest favourite is a black v neck with white paw prints, saying: "Who Rescued Who"? Much love and stay warm, eh? cat.

  12. LOVE the t-shirt! what does HRH think of it?

    ReplyDelete
  13. @ Old Lurker -- Technically, I think the cat is occupying the position of the querent. But I like to think the cat is actually the tarot reader because of that intense gaze!

  14. @ anne marie in philly -- My human should ONLY wear t-shirts with MY picture on them. I will pee on this IMPOSTER t-shirt at my very first opportunity.

  15. Love the hare.

I think we tried to get good Omens before but now we seem to have access to Amazon Prime, thanks to Elder Son, so we must try again. I love David Tennant.

  16. Hello Debra, It makes perfect sense that cats can read tarot cards. Cat owners should buy these beautiful decks and hope for a propitious reading.

  17. I think the t-shirt is super fun. Do enjoy wearing it!

  18. I want Wisdom of the Calleach. Can't wait to get some money to buy it.

  19. Two very good actors in Good Omens make it such a fun show.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Any cat I know would compliment that shirt.

    ReplyDelete
  21. So nice to see my Irish cousin so beautifully depicted (the hare, not the crone)... must secure this tarot deck for myself too!

It looks to me like the cat on your t-shirt is a disgruntled recipient of one of your tarot readings. After all, if the earth was flat, cats would have pushed everything off of it by now! I'm surprised that HRH would permit you to even wear a t-shirt with another cat on it....

  22. I love the shirt. Keep on Truckin'.

  23. Oooh! I LOVE that shirt! So cool! Thanks for sharing those blogs, they look interesting and I'm heading over to check them out. The of both is fabulous!

  25. "the Crone stage of life" Ha ha ha! I hear you sister - lets celebrate the crones!

  26. Oh I love that t-shirt!!! I think lots of folks would appreciate that t-shirt, if I saw you at timmies or wally world, I'd give you a big thumbs up! :) And the first Jane Bridesman tarot card of the Crone is simply beautiful! I'm going to check out Good Omens, I love Frances McDormand, I saw she was part of the cast on IMDB.

  27. And it proves that, on occasion, there ARE people with taste who frequent Tim Horton's and Walmart.

  28. I wear t-shirts with stuff on them. Over time the stuff is mostly food I've tried eating but I like it when something on the shirt brings a compliment or question from a stranger. Most of my shirts relate to a place I've visited. That cat's face is intense.

  29. Your t-shirt is perfect, Debra! What great insight your Rare One has. I remember the series you did on the Tarot in Edmonton. So clever. I haven't see the series "Good Omens." And I haven't heard of the Terry Prachett and Neil Gaiman novel; but I think I must get it asap! have a great weekend!

  30. I have so many issues with impulse control when it comes to tarot decks, LOL. My latest pop culture acquisition is based on the book/ movie The Last Unicorn. It's soooo purty. I'm messing around a little with that one, the Spirit Keeper's Tarot by Benebell Wen, and a new self-care oracle deck. But I usually do return to my old reliable Robin Wood or Shadowscapes tarot regularly.

  31. I loved Good Omens! And I agree the show was better than the book. Have you ever seen the Visconti Sforza cards? Talk about stunning...

  32. You had me at Crone. The Crone has been my favorite aspect of the Goddess since I was a wee bit of a child--it makes me think of my grandmother and makes me hope I will be like her some day. So, I love the idea behind the book and the cards.

You know I wasn't impressed with the Good Omens TV show. But I'm working on it. I'm trying to create a line between the book and the show. Maybe I will like the show better after that. The actors were magnificent, and so are the cards.

  33. Interesting..I just love the shirt..It's purfect!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. The detail in the art is incredible. Looks like it took a lot of work putting them together. Ahhhhhh your kitty shirt looks cute and comfy. Enjoy!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm not into tarot, but love the aesthetic of the images.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have a feeling HRH is eying that shirt with envy. Guard it well, my dear.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Very interesting - love the art - and the T-shirt is perfect -no wonder you got compliments. Happy Week ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I collect tarot decks; I would love to have the Good Omens cards.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Love that Cailleach deck, absolutely gorgeous! My own deck is an herbal one with pretty plant pictures. This one also calls to me...
I don't have Amazon or BBC and have not watched that show, but a friend of mine posts so much about it that I feel like I've seen it!
LOVE the cat tarot t-shirt! Orange tabbies are magical!
I'm going to send this post to my daughter. She will love everything about it. Cheers!
