Following the introductory course I took this fall in the art of coloured pencils, I did the next level and learned how to work with multiple coloured pencils. It is a very slow process to complete each assignment and I am still working on most of them, quite frankly, even though the course itself is now done.
However, this piece featuring red onions is finished so I am posting it today. It required the use of 17 coloured pencils in various combinations and layers on black paper.
The beginning stage --
The middle stage --
I am very proud of those onion tops. They almost have a photo-realistic quality, plus I managed to get a really good picture of them!
The final version --
The onion bulbs are okay but I want to burn that twine, LOL! My pencils were too dull and should have been sharpened so the twine would not be so thick.
Anyway, I will post the other course work individually as I slowly complete each piece.

That is so interesting how it comes together in layers of colours! Nice job, just remember us when you are famous! :D
ReplyDeleteIt's always so amazing to see the skills of an artist, and I wish I could draw like you! Fantastic work! Hugs, RO
ReplyDeleteLove it.
ReplyDeleteEveryone criticizes their own work. Just like my repair projects around the house. I know where every little mistake is and they stick out like a sore thumb to me. Nobody else sees them, just me.
ReplyDeletefantastic! i want a tattoo like that on my arm.
ReplyDeleteSO beautiful. You inspire me. I don’t seem to get off my ass and do any drawing but still you inspire me to at least want to.
ReplyDeleteyep, they DO look like the red onions I buy for RTG.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with the various stages of the work...how'd you do that?
ReplyDeleteOh, very good! You do have talent! -Jenn

ReplyDeleteWhat a big jump! Gradually up to 3 pencils in the introductory course and now straight to 17! Actually, Debra, it's brilliant.

Oh, wow, Debs, I love it that you showed it to us in stages, the final result is amazingly stunning. You could illustrate books you know! Imagine this gorgeous drawing in a book of recipes!
ReplyDeleteDebra, your drawing is beautifully done, I agree about the onion tops! I just ordered about $200 worth of new art supplies, I'm going to try some different colours of sketch paper too. You do a wonderful job with the pencils, are they Prismacolor? I have Prismacolor Premiers and love them. I have the 48 pack, but just ordered another 20 or so to help with more deep and rich colours! Well done!!!
ReplyDelete@ Rain -- Yes, we used Prismacolor Premiers in this art class. They are indeed beautiful coloured pencils!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debra :) They are really great pencils, I'm trying to learn how to blend them better. Patience and layering is definitely the key to getting great results with them!
ReplyDeleteLovely work. Anyone would be happy to have your art on their walls!
ReplyDeleteJust one word from me - FABULOUS & I would love to hang it on my wall.

ReplyDeleteIt must take such discipline to slowly build up the layers and layers to achieve that rich finish. It's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteColored pencils was one of my favorite mediums to work with. These look terrific.
ReplyDeleteAwesome artwork! What a fun piece to work on. I should get back to my drawing. It's been a while.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, that's very good, and coming from someone who draws, doing it on black paper must be even more difficult.
ReplyDeleteStart to finish, I'm loving it.
Awesome job, friend D "Bateman" SheWhoSeeks :) Love, cat.
