Marvel Universe of Superheroes Exhibit, Part 2

It was nice and quiet at the exhibit hall on the day we visited. The exhibit had already been running for about 3 months so the big initial crowds were gone. Plus we went on a weekday afternoon when kids were in school.

Here are the costumes for Thor and his sister Hela the Goddess of Death. Also the movie prop hammer, Mjolnir, which they both wielded at different periods of time.

A lot of plastic died to make Thor's costume. I'm surprised it looks as good on screen as it does, because it looks more than a little cheesy in real life!

Mjolnir is a worthy movie prop, though.

So is Loki's helmet. That's my hand and camera reflected in the glass, LOL!

Captain America's uniform is the one worn in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Bucky's costume is the post-Winter Soldier uniform worn in Avengers: Infinity War. Both outfits look like they've had a few miles put on them. The MCU gots its money's worth out of them, I guess! Still, very cool to see the movie artefacts in person.

Cap's battle-scarred movie-prop shield is also part of the display.

All in all, this exhibit was a good way to spend a snowy winter's afternoon when it was -30ºC outside!

  1. *faints* Captain America and Bucky are in the same case? Yes!
And you know that the magic of the movies will make anything look amazing. Well, that and that Hemsworth is wearing that Thor costume. I'd buy anything he sells. LOL

    XOXO

  2. I just told our waiter about -30. He corrected me and said -3 but was still shocked. When I confirmed -30, which is about the same Celsius, he told everyone in the restaurant. Such an elegant hand.

  3. I wonder if they smell inside LOL

  4. Looks like a fun place to visit especially when it was that cold outside. I hope Harry and Megan are enjoying the weather. :D

  5. Two things:
I wish Chris Hemsworth had been on display, in or out of costume.
I want Loki's helmet ... just to wear around the house!

  6. Love the Loki Helmet. Photography through glass is a bitch though but it is still a good picture.

  7. -30? I would have been layering on those costumes before leaving the building!

  8. What Bob said about Chris Hemsworth … ROFLMAO! But I agree. Deb … Is this a travelling exhibit?

  9. Ahhh - the magic of the silver screen. Even seeing the costumes in exhibit, you can almost see Thor, Capt America, et al stepping off the platforms!

  10. Really neat stuff. It is amazing how some not so impressive stuff can be made to look impressive in a film.

  11. So awesome! I wish something like this would come to San Antonio or Austin. I would drag David's butt to see this.

  12. Loki's helmet looks awesome! And you are so right, Thor's costume looks a bit... blah.

  13. Hello Debra, It's so odd to see movie props in person. They always seems kind of shrunken, and with the magic taken out. It reminds me of Pat McManus's observation (from another context): "It was as though Excalibur had been transformed into a putty knife."

  14. My daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter often get in costume for events. They would love this stuff.

  15. You have the new iPhone? Fancy, fancy.

I am surprised you did not reorient the Winter Soldier and Captain America displays so they were smooching.

  16. -30c? I'm surprised any cars could crank to go there.

  17. Every one of those costumes looks impossible to wear, let alone brandish a sword in! I suppose the plasticky creaks, squeaks and crackles were all edited out afterwards.

  18. If you hadn't told me Thor's costume was plastic, I wouldn't have guessed it! The movies really are magic, aren't they? Gawd, that must have been awfully hot to wear while filming, not being breathable and all. Poor Thor.

  19. A very interesting exhibit, especially on a cold winter's day... Loki's helmet and Dr. Strange's costume looked like they'd be fun to wear. Captain America's costume creeped me out though -- the empty headpiece made it look like a skeleton. Guess I just prefer gazing at the actor who wore it! LOL

  20. Now, I have two opinions on superheroes. One. There is only one superhero and that is Superman. Basta.
Two. If gods are to be superheroes, use your own rather than mine. Hmpf.

  21. The good thing about Marvel is that popularized Norse mythoogy. The bad thing is that they Marvelised it. That said since Cate Blanchett played Hela, I guess I must watch Thor 3 at some point.

  22. @ BootsandBraids -- Yes, it is a traveling exhibit. According to the internet, it was in Philadelphia and Seattle in 2019 and, after it closes next month in Edmonton, it's off to Dearborn, Michigan.

  23. @ Old Lurker -- Believe me, if I could have opened the case, they'd be repositioned to be doing more than just smooching, LOL! And yes, Luddite that I am, I only just upgraded last fall from my old flip phone to my first smartphone. Figured I might as well blow the wad and get a new iPhone.

  24. @ Adam -- We plug in our cars to an outdoor electrical outlet to activate a block heater under the hood which keeps the engine warm so it won't freeze up. I know you don't need such contraptions where you live!

  25. @ Guillaume -- Yes, you definitely must see "Thor: Ragnarok" -- Cate Blanchette is deliciously evil in it.

  26. I'll confess: I've seen none of these movies. The costumes are cool though! I prefer to read the mythologies and let me tell you, those gods and goddesses were naughty!

  27. @ Adam -- I hate to disagree with Deb, but not all vehicles require block heaters in Canada. I've owned Nissan Pathfinders and a Subaru Crosstrek and they've all started at -50 Celsius without being plugged in. It's only the North American brand vehicles that crap out at -20 even with block heaters!

  28. My husband would've stood in front of each and every one of those displays and given me a rundown of who wore it, then the character, what the character did, their arc, journey, foes, until I finally walked to the next dislpay haha So glad you got to see these. So cool!!!!
