Everyone's Favourite Store

Did you ever wonder how IKEA was invented?
Here's the real background story --

IKEA's reach extends throughout the Universe.
Look who's working at the Asgard store!

Boy, you know things are tough when even
the Norse gods have to get a retail job.

  2. Corn Maze! Meatballs! Perfect! I have to admit I love IKEA. I also had a full head of hair before I started assembling the furniture. Todd, write that down.

  4. I spent a week in an IKEA store one day.

  5. I've spent a lot of time helping my son put together Ikea furniture. It was actually a lot of fun if you include beer or wine with the work!

  6. my fave - the ikea book. I have a few of their bookcases in my home; easy to assemble.

  7. The background info is not too far from reality!

  8. By the time you are through, you view it as not new, but an old piece of furniture you just repaired.

  9. Ikea has an amazing selection of stuff, we rented a Gite in Normandy a few years ago that was entirely furnished from Ikea. And it had all been assembled before we got there.

  10. NO IKEA IN NEW MEXICO! I miss those Svedish meatballs!

  11. Darling Debra,

IKEA is positively revered in Budapest.

Families spend whole days out at a store and nearly everyone's house or apartment has a touch or more of IKEA 'style'. In general, Hungarians live in much smaller spaces than one is used to in the UK, so the teeny tiny 'show rooms' at IKEA give the perfect fit for copying directly at home.

We once in a very very foolish moment tried to navigate the Croydon IKEA in Purley Way. We are still recovering from shock. Never again we vowed....but never is a long time....so....maybe....

  12. Sadly, we here in Baja Arizona are denied the Ikea experience (I am NOT driving all the way to Phoenix!) but my absolutely favorite "Legends of Tomorrow" episode (S4Ep12) where Sara has to go rescue Ava from Purgatory....which is a giant Ikea store. To escape they have to successfully work together to assemble a wardrobe, then find their way out of the store.

    Soooo, Ikea-adjacent I guess?

  13. Hello Debra, The problem is that if you buy too much at Ikea, your place looks like Ikea. I haven't been there is a long time. The last time I checked in, the quality had really tanked.

  14. I've only been to an Ikea once. Too big. Too many choices. Plus everything has to be put together. And, the one I went to was set up as a room to room maze. At the end, you'd never remember what you liked at the beginning!

  15. My daughter is an Ikea junkie. Before we got one in St. Louis, she and her girlfriends used to drive to Chicago which was the closest store. I've never been in one.

  16. Don't mention Ikea! we had three sets of steel shelves delivered and no surprise the screws were tiny and useless, the holes were all misaligned and the whole lot is now in its box waiting until they open up from Lockdown so I can get a refund!

  17. Ha - I have never step foot in an Ikea - just not a fan of particle board furniture. I rather antique/thrift and buy wood. Still I can appreciate the humor regarding the difficult assembly!

  18. I've always had mixed results with IKEA. My 25 year-old wooden storage shelves and two small, simple wooden tables are fantastic. On the other hand, the armchair and lamps I bought from them ended up being garbage after a little over a year.

  19. The Swedish "Trojan Horse" made me snort my coffee! And that origin of IKEA video was probably closer to the truth than we know, LOL!

I also thought IKEA had crappy quality furniture until I went into a JYSK... who knew IKEA had a bargain basement?! Ugh.

  20. I shopped Ikea twice and that was enough. And that shit lasted three years and was sent to a bonfire. I haven't been back since.

  21. Never been in an Ikea, nearest one faraway in driving distance. But I love the Ikea jokes. Especially the ones after the founder died, very good humored.

  22. Never been to Ikea, nearest one far away. But I used to like the odd names of furniture in the catalog. And all the jokes.

  23. Hello Lovely! HELLO! I absolutely LOVE Ikea. I buy their stearin candles by the boat load! The Jubla tapers are my favorite for altar candles. I also like their lamps, fabrics, bed sheets, towels, and kitchenware! And their Holiday decorations are so cute.

  24. And that, all of THAT, is why I won't purchase from IKEA.
Hope you're having a great weekend.

  25. My daughter took me to Ikea. She told me what she was looking for. I spotted it on the opposite wall. We cut through. Never been back. I hate Ikea.

  27. Good yuks here. The Trojan Horse from IKEA slayed me.

  28. Ha! It's been over 10 years I think but my blog regularly had posts about IKEA = alien owners with set ups conducting rat-like experiments on us Earthlings.

  29. Debra, that video was so hilarious!!! It's so damn true about Ikea. Poor Todd lol...I laughed so hard at that...Great post!! One of my friends always said Ikea is Swedish for "crap"...mind you, I have lots of stuff from there!

  31. Brilliant Deb! I loved that video! LOL! Big Hugs!

  32. Ikea memes are always funny. The one time I went in an Ikea, I got so lost I thought I'd never get out again.

    Love,

  37. I love IKEA.
Love it. Literally 70% of my stuff comes from IKEA. I love the clean lines and the affordable prices. I've used each and every opportunity I've had to assemble an IKEA item as a chance to test my relationship with a man. If we can get over the putting an IKEA piece of furniture together, we'll be ok.
    Hahaha.

    XOXO

  38. I love the video! I've only been to Ikea ONE TIME. Is that a crime? Am I gonna be sent to Ikea jail?

  39. Great post..Lots of chuckles..Thanks I can sympathize..Love the nightstand!!

  40. I'll confess, I'm not a fan. I hate the maze! That said, I have some bookcases and a couple of bed frames from Ikea (also called the Swedish Walmart). The beds are needlessly difficult to assemble. I bought one of the beds at a charity shop so it was even cheaper, lol.

My daughter is a whiz at assembling these frustrating furnishings. Smart kid, and handy.

The book made me laugh. So did the video. Cheers!

  41. That last image cracked me up! I've put together several items from Ikea over the years.

  42. Very funny. I like the christmas tree one. I have never been to an Ikea. I have never lived in a place where they were. The closest one to me is Portland. Not driving there. ha ha ha.

  43. I love Ikea. Perhaps it is because the nearest one is a couple hours away and I rarely get to go. I wonder how they are handling the pandemic stuff?

    ReplyDelete
  44. OMG ~ LOL!!!! That video! And the book! And the Christmas tree! There's been a lot of IKEA in my past. Note I said past. Thanks for the laughs, Debra!

  45. It took us years to get an IKEA near us. Thankfully a couple of years ago it arrived and it's only 2 miles from my house.
