When the pandemic struck in March and my art lessons ceased, I had big plans (BIG PLANS) to keep going on my own -- I intended to finish some half-completed coloured pencil assignments, keep practising watercolours, and try my hand at some new things.
SO HOW DID THAT WORK OUT?
Yes, I've been a complete and utter SLUG in the art department since March. Haven't even put pencil to paper ONCE.
But when I saw that this week's art prompt at Thursday Art Date with Rain was "SUPERHEROES," it inspired me to GET OFF MY ASS and participate!
How could I RESIST the urge to try my hand at depicting my favourite obsessions superheroes CAPTAIN AMERICA and the WINTER SOLDIER?
So, after a mere FOUR HOURS of intense labour, here's my Art Date contribution (sorry for the blurry photo, it's the best I could get) --
I based my drawing on this more complex piece of fanart by kimeido. I'm basically pleased with how my version turned out, although Captain America's head IS a bit big for his body, plus I completely MISSED putting the red stripe on his uniformed arm as shown in the original -- D'OH! Serves me right for just ASSUMING I knew what his uniform colours were.
And yes, the Winter Soldier's torso is MUCH TOO BROAD by at least 1/4 inch. Alas, I didn't notice that until I had inked his uniform and, of course, once something is INKED, it's too friggin' late for changes then, pal.
However, in the Marvel movies, Bucky DOES tend to go up and down the CHONK SCALE, so obviously he's just having a FAT PANTS kind of day in this depiction. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Hey, it's your drawing and that's how your characters look. I'm into painting also. I have three buckets of paint ready to be tossed at the canvas any day now. As soon as become inspired.
ReplyDeleteHi Debra :) I had to click on your link first today! I'm so happy you joined in and your drawing is really great! You're too self-critical!!!! I think you did a fabulous sketch!! I had to laugh at the fatty progression too, so hilarious! I'm so happy you did some art and I hope you keep it up because you have lots of talent. :)
ReplyDeleteYour drawing is pretty awesome, and wanted to wish the family a wonderful Thanksgiving! Hugs, RO
ReplyDeleteWow, the road to hell is paved with good intentions and tumbleweeds...who knew?!
ReplyDeleteYour superheroes drawing is pretty good, given the time constraint. Where's Cap's left arm... doesn't he use both in a fight anymore?
@ Tundra Bunny -- Cap's left hand is on Bucky's ass, of course.
ReplyDeleteI love your drawing and think you're brilliant to come up with all those scientific comparisons. Now I have to go find out who heck Bucky is!
ReplyDeleteWow, you are a fantastic artist Debra, I'm impressed!
ReplyDeleteI think you are talented. Who needs art lessons when she can draw like that?
ReplyDelete2 hunky superheros ready to save the day!
ReplyDeleteI think your drawing is purr-fect. My Italian lessons were cut short in March also and good intentions of following the lessons in the book and DVDs ...well "sono usciti dalla finestra".
ReplyDeleteYay for getting to drawing again!
ReplyDeleteLove the final product. Very epic and it does touch on the bromance.
And I liked his progression in the movies. It suits the arch. The dadbod suits him tho.
Yum.
XoXo
Wow great job on your superheros. Happy TG
ReplyDeleteThe chonk scale is funny as heck. I love it.
ReplyDeletefabulous drawing of your superheroes and keep going as you can great drawings!!
ReplyDeleteGreeting Elke
Hi Debra, Your drawing is great. I would not have noticed any of those things you pointed out, and looking at it again, I still don't notice anything wrong. That progression of cats made me laugh harder than anything in a while!
ReplyDelete--Jim
I was super impressed with your drawing and painting. I don't draw OR paint, so I'm really impressed with your creation. So glad you joined us this week, too.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at the cat and his weight. The first one is Bleubeard and the LAST one is Squiggles who doesn't know when to stop eating OR begging. These were very clever indeed.
I think your drawing is fabulous. Perfect, no, but there truly is no such thing as perfection. Add to that, you said you haven't put pencil to paper since March?! I think you did a bang up job.

Don't be self-critical, girl! Your drawing is great! I haven't done any in months. I've been in slug mode on a lot of things I enjoy.
ReplyDeleteLovely art and a great take on superheroes today!
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty darn damn good Debs!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou sure draw better than me.
ReplyDeleteThe chonk scale is hitting close to home after eight months of quarantine.
ReplyDeleteI take it you watch those videos of dogs eating various food items and commenting on them as they chomp away and giving the dog's impression of each morsel!
ReplyDeleteChonk is a favorite word of the canines! LOL
If I ran Marvel, I'd hire you.
ReplyDeleteYour drawing is great, Debra. I know you beautiful Canadians have already celebrated Thanksgiving. I hope it was a good one for you and your Rare One.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
What a great drawing and a great defense.
ReplyDeleteHey lady! You are VERY talented. You need to let that talent not lie dormant. Happy Thursday night to you--not get busy 'arting'...lol. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteps-yes, thank you- I just coined that phrase-"arting"....
I think creative people are having an easier time with the virus. I like to see more of your work.
ReplyDeleteStay Safe and Coffee is on
Excellent drawing, I wouldn't have noticed the "errors" if you hadn't mentioned them. All looked correct to me!
ReplyDeleteLOL ... I think this pandemic has made megachonkers out of many of us and the slug part seems to go along with it. Your Superheros are most handsome and I find no fault in either of them ... it is true that we are our own worst critics and you picky apart of your beautiful drawing is proof of it. Needless to say, many of us couldn't come close to such a drawing (and inking)so, if you hadn't said anything we wouldn't have even noticed :) That said ... I think they are awesome just the way they are ...
ReplyDeleteAndrea @ From the Sol
You are your own worst critic..I think your drawings are great!!..HAve a happy weekend..
ReplyDeleteomg, your Winter Soldier with the handy cat comparison; it's a good thing I wasn't eating. My own cats looked at me and said, "Look, it's only the three of us here, why do you have to make so much noise?" Thanks once again, Debra. Every few days when the internet gets all doleful, I recall that there is such a place as Your Blog, and it is then the joy happens.
ReplyDeleteHush! Great drawing of great superheros!
ReplyDeleteI think your artwork is spectuacular and you shouldn't be so hard on yourself.
ReplyDeleteI had a few LOL's at the chunk scale. :)
Wow. I'm super impressed with your artistic skill! I would be happy with a smidgen of your talent!
ReplyDeleteBeyond that, I saw let the man chonk. He fine chonky.
Happy Whatever. Closer and closer to the end of this hellscape of a year...
I said "WOOOOWWW!" when I saw your art. You're a gifted artist, Deb.
ReplyDeleteI pick the Megachonk. I hope he picks me.
Cheers.
Happy Thanksgiving
ReplyDeleteQuite the Bustepher Jones is that last cat.
ReplyDeletei think you are very talented and saw none of the things you said were wrong size..looked great to me.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I appreciate a little "chonk" on a fella.
ReplyDeleteYour drawing is awesome, Debra! I keep meaning to participate in Rain's Art Date, but I haven't managed it yet. I think Terry has hit the "A Heckin' Chonker" level. I won't reveal where I am ~ LOL! Thanks for the laughs!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I think your art piece is great1 I love it! Now, I can't stop laughing on how you finished your post! LOL! Thanks Debra! LOL!
