God Bless 'Em All

Hey, it's Victoria Day in Canada once again. We are the only country in the entire Commonwealth (former name: "The British Empire") that still celebrates Queen Victoria's birthday with a statutory holiday, good little colonials that we are. Even Britain doesn't mark the occasion anymore.

So therefore, this is the date on which She Who Seeks blog traditionally makes fun of the Royal Family but jeez, I feel kinda bad about doing it this year. They've had a helluva year, haven't they, the poor buggers. Well, maybe "poor" isn't the right word . . . or is it?

Oh, who the hell am I kidding?

I do believe Meghan, however, that she faced racism from some members of the Royal Family (and certainly from the British press as well).

But I don't think the Queen was worried about race at all. She doesn't need to.

I suspect the press is blowing "Megxit" out of all proportion. Meghan is not the "be all and end all" of evil in the world.

Why isn't Prince Andrew treated with anywhere near the same public hatred and condemnation as Meghan is?

And now poor old Prince Philip has died too.

Oh for god's sake, let's all just move on from Meghan-bashing and get started on fresher bogus royal gossip, okay?

Sheesh. Queen Victoria should have the last word on all this. After all, it's her day today.

  1. Most of those are brilliant. If Harry and Megan really want a "normal life" move to small town north america, teach school, run a car dealership, defuse bombs, but don't talk with Oprah and how terrible your life is. Normal people don't go on TV complaining about their family.

  2. I like Bill Gates and the potential matchup with a Royal cougar.

  3. The comment regarding Andrew versus Meghan is so true. He gets a free pass. Disgusting.

  4. Hello Debra, I must have missed something while not reading about the royal family. If they really complained about their family on TV, that is the height or boorishness!

  7. Oh, the comment about Prince Andrew. So true! Funny how there's no outrage about him.

And I do believe that Meghan dealt with racism, especially from the press.

  8. Truth! Comparing Meghan and Andrew. Thanks for your irreverence!

  10. All such a mess. I wouldn't be surprised if old Vicki is getting ready to come back from the dead and haunt all their asses.

  11. Ooh I bet a certain imperious dead cat will also be unamused by this post. You might want to inspect your shoes before putting them on.

  12. Monarchy is such a strange institution in the modern world.
Your point about Andrew vs Meghan in press coverage is spot on. An unpleasant combination of racism and sexism and xenophobia on display. The British press is awful.

  13. I loved when Megan and Harry spelt all that piping hot tea on TV with Oprah.... that's the way people should always do it. The whole royal apparatus was ready to discredit them and they jumped ahead. Good for him.
I don't mind rich people airing their dirty laundry BEFORE somebody tries to air it for them.

    XOXO

  14. Bill Gates and the Queen - never occurred to me but it's a great thought.

  15. I'm a Royalist but these are funny. I do wish Harry and Meghan would just STFU and do whatever they want. Andrew needs to go to prison. And Elizabeth just might outlive them all. I'm cheering for that.

  16. nerdy bill gates...nerdy queen...makes sense!

  17. Funny post, but the sooner the British monarchy bites the dust the better. Until then, they should all just STFU!

  18. Oh goodness I love this post! My ancestors were all from England/Scotland so I feel a fondness for the old country! But you know, they did leave for a reason or several... Thank you Debra for this hilarious look at the Royals!

  19. Lol.... Love these! Yes, I guess we should all give them a break? They have had a bad year but then most of us have for various reasons. They have to deal with the press on top of everything else. I really don’t envy them but I’m not sure That I admire them either..

  20. boo hoo hoo poor rich people. Some of these were pretty funny.

  21. So they move to California? Why not Maine or Vermont or Missouri or Kansas for a normal life to bring up a child or two?

  22. Has anyone made a comment about Gates and the Queen yet? I think there may have been something going on already.

  23. So funny! Ginger let his gonads determine his marriage. Sigh.

  24. It is hysterical how obsessed people are with the royal family. Then again, people seem to still be obsessed with the Kardashians. Humans are a puzzling species! At least we have no shortage of entertainment.

  25. Forgot it was Victoria Day. Or le Jour des Patriotes in Québec. Or Dollard des Ormeaux. It changed a lot.

  26. Yes, how interesting Andrew is not so far down the loathing scale as Meghan.

  27. I wonder if Oparh will be interview any of us here. We all know the answer. But I like the first meme owning Canada and be colonist of England. Well America never and gain some colonist and imprealist ideals of it own.

  28. So how's Anne and Edward doing?

  29. Happy Victoria Day. Yes, Meghan has her cannon balls to toss. I considered that if anyone would be able to withstand the Royal Family, she would be it. But your journalist are a special brand of nasty all to themselves. It doesn't surprise me she would try to keep her kids away from them.

  30. Got a kick out of the memes. Have seen some of them on line, but many were new to me. I'm getting really tired of seeing them in the news. They say they want to live their own life and be private, but ever chance they get to put their mugs out there they seem to jump at; so I think they may be speaking out of two sides of their mouths. I hope they can mend fences because the riff in the family will only hurt Harry, maybe not as much now as later. She's a beautiful woman, and he's funny and entertaining; but I would like them to move on.

  31. Happy Victoria day-She would be appalled!
I don't really know what to think about Harry and Megan, but then again, I don't really care unless they're hurting the bees and butterflies. :)

  32. If Rupert Murdoch gets divorced again that would be cause for concern.

  33. I think the outrage over Randy Andy subsided because, 1} he's in permanent hibernation doing absolutely nothing and 2} the media is waiting for the other shoe to drop in New York with what's-her-name.

    Overall, this is brilliant.

I can understand why people would give the "wait...wut?" on a holiday that very countries celebrate. I used to work for a company based in Rhode Island decades ago where the state celebrated VJ-Day as a holiday. Only state to do so.

  34. The Americans spilling tea meme had me rolling. I over course never spill any tea. I cherish each drop.
