It's A Sin

The traditional "three pillars" of homophobia -- state, religion and medical profession -- have all been fought long and hard by the LGBTQ+ community in order to gain our rights and freedoms. After 50 years of soul-searching and change, many Liberal Christians have now revised their beliefs and support us, but many Conservative Christians still do not.

Some of the most conservative and backward believers even still resort to that old hocus pocus of exorcism, if you can believe it!

Well, fellow greasy demons, let's confess our sins!

Here's a knockout new synth-pop version of the Pet Shop Boys' classic song "It's a Sin" performed at last month's 2021 BRIT Awards by Elton John and Olly Alexander of Years & Years. One hundred percent of net proceeds (including all artist and producer shares) from the sale of this new single will benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

What makes this video so fabulous is its increasingly spectacular out 'n proud imagery defiantly juxtaposed with the self-loathing lyrics taught to all of us by religion. Together, it's a GIANT FUCK YOU to religious control of our lives, sexuality and gender. LOVE IT!

  1. OMG
HRH *the cat* is beyond fab here! Frameable.
Oh, the Xtianists. That tweet by Evan J'daté Kessler is flawless. Boom! Indeed.
And I watched that performance. Absolutely fantastic. It's like two worlds found each other: Sir Elton and Olly.
Olly also starred in the It's a Sin miniseries. Highly recommend it. Now I'm off to listen to the PSB.

    XOXO

  2. I'd never heard that Dan Savage quote but it's perfect.

  3. I love the Pet Shop Boys and that video! HRH is fabulous as always!

  4. What would be a rarer and more remarkable event would be if the children of conservative Christians discovered their parents were Homo sapiens.

  5. The homo sapiens question for conservative christian parents was sad and hilarious at the same time. It should spark the creation of some new Pride Parade signage though: "ALL HUMANS ARE HOMOS!", LOL!

  6. Yes, the ignorance and fear go together. Next they'll be teaching our kids Arabic numerals in school, ffs!

  7. Those 5500 Conservative Christians were on to something. If you had any idea of the destruction Homo sapiens would wreak upon the world's ecosystems, you might disown them too. They may be clever but aren't as good at thinking as the name suggests.

Oh for those simpler days when the worst we had to worry about was having a Homo erectus.

  8. The video is fantastic and HRH looks great! Can you imagine disowning your own child for any reason? Disgusting!

  9. Ah yes - the bible - a book like Aesop's Fables, both to be taken with a cup of salt.

  10. Oh, blessings on HRH the Cat! I´d better get to work. Dudo and Moose refuse to cooperate, so it´s going to be all Photoshop. Don´t tell anyone. The video has been making me so happy in recent weeks.

It’s a good thing 55 percent of Conservative Christians have little chance of raising actual homo sapiens!

  11. Greasy demons. Nice.

  12. Progress has been made, a little, and restricted to a handful of countries. For the majority of my brethren and sistren, it's dangerous to wave the rainbow flag. We won't have peace or equality until religion is eliminated from the planet.

I know that's not the real HRH, but what a good sport that handsome kitty is!

  13. If it's not a sin you're doing it wrong.

  14. I am fond of pointing out that Jesus said not one words regarding homosexuality in the new testament - either for or against. However, he railed against adultery and divorce. Funny how the Christians cherry pick their sins.

    1. I suspect Jesus was the leader of a gay cult: surrounded by twelve men, whom he asked to leave their wives and families, he had a favourite disciple, etc.

  15. That homo sapien one - whoowee! I laughed uproariously, yet it's believable. How sad that is.

    Have a prideful weekend.

  16. What’s the saying - there is no sinner like a young saint? And I should know.

  17. Also Christ never said follow Christains. He said "follow me" and I will leave it there.
Coffee is on and stay safe

  18. The Homosapien goes right along with the Arabic numeral question.

I clicked 'here', then clicked 'here' again and saw a comment I'd left. I said I forgot last year and I had a shirt that would have been great. Now I have to figure out what shirt I was talking about. After all, that was a frickin year ago.

  22. The liberals-for-gay rights, conservatives-against-gay rights political environment that we currently live under is really a post-Stonewall phenomenon, at least here in the United States. Prior to Stonewall, everybody across the political spectrum thought homosexuality was either a sin or a mental illness or both. Most atheists were against gay rights, too, though they would have leaned more towards mental illness as a reason than sin. But what happened is once homosexuality was removed from the list of mental illnesses, the liberals gradually changed their minds. The conservatives who think it was a sin never did.

I've been reading a lot about the history of the LGBTQ rights movement in the past year or so. It really began about 18 years before Stonewall with the formation of the Mattachine Society. Don't think THAT organization had an easy time of it back in the 1950s!

  23. And Olly Alexander has just linked up with Kylie Minogue. This liberal Christian is so excited.

  24. I hope I can speak for the medical profession at least that branch is trying to do a better job at gay issues.
Not too long ago I would not be allowed to be a physician, let alone a psychiatrist. I read articles all the time telling docs how to be more mindful of bias and needs of minorities. Let us hope so.

  25. It is wonderful that some denominations have become accepting. The conservatives are really scary and will likely never change. Great video clip!

  26. @ Kirk -- Yes, pre-Stonewall history was extremely difficult to survive, but you're right about bright spots such as the Mattachine Society. And don't forget the Daughters of Bilitis, the first lesbian rights organization in the USA which started in the same era too!

  27. Hi Debra :) I was brought up Christian/Catholic...whatever you call it. Everything was a sin and if you ask me, it promoted racism, hatred and intolerance. I've long since abandoned that religion and as you know I'm a free spirit now. It's a shame people still can't see through that garbage.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The homo sapiens! HAHAHAHAHA I guess all the kids will be moving out.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I just remember that Jesus never spoke about homosexuality. Pride, arrogance, and religiousness, yes. He also said we are all equal in God's eyes, and that we should love one another. Some of his followers seem to find those words hard to understand.

  30. Those conservative Christians also worship trump.

    Love,
    Janie
