Remembrance Day

[first female Canadian soldier
killed in combat]

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

--From "For the Fallen" by Laurence Binyon

  1. All my respect for people who serve or have served.
Veterans do have a hard time re-adjusting to civilian life, though...

    XOXO

  7. Hello Debra, It's important to honor veterans as a group, but also vitally important to remember and memorialize them singly--their individual accomplishments and sacrifices gave us our present lives..

  9. We received our first snowfall of the year last night. With everything covered in a blanket of white, the Victoria Park Cenotaph covered in red poppies this morning has an added poignancy somehow... Lest We Forget.

  12. If she died in Afghanistan in the first decade of the 21st century, then it was in a war largely fought on the United States behalf (as a response to 9/11.) Maybe my country should have an Allies Day for the Canadians and others who sometimes perish in our wars.

  15. I missed you at Rain's this week, but like you, I chose to spend the day honoring our veterans who have given SO much so we on this side of the pond can be free. A wonderful homage to remember someone who has fallen. Thoughtful of you to memorialize her, too.
