Time for another Art Date prompt
from Rain Frances!
Right before the pandemic
started two years ago,
I took a watercolours course.
It did not go well.
I am terrible at watercolours or indeed,
at any type of painting.
I'm very comfortable with a
pen or pencil in my hand,
but not with a brush.
We painted at least a dozen paintings.
I did not post any of them on my blog.
But now Rain Frances is
FORCING me to post one
because of her prompt!
This is the only winter scene
artwork that I have available.
I cringe every time I look at
that gawdawful brick wall
behind the tractor.
Yes, that's supposed
to be brickwork, LOL!
I hope you're happy,
Rain Frances.

Sometimes your inner critic is correct: LOL!
ReplyDeleteIs it really a painting? I think it is great!
ReplyDeleteIt actually not that bad!!!! I did a watercolor class once and I found it very hard also.
ReplyDeleteWell, I like it.
ReplyDeleteI cannot do watercolour or pencil or anything remotely artistic, but I love it when people is able to create something with some colours and some strokes. Is it Van Gogh? Nope. But it's valid. Yay Rain Frances for having you post it here.
XOXO
P.S. love the meme! LOL
I didn't really notice the bricks, I was chilling at the snow covered tractor.
ReplyDeleteI like it.
Very representational, I like it.
ReplyDeleteArtists are hypercritical of their own work - I like it!
ReplyDeleteI do have to say the tractor and snow are wonderful and much more difficult to accomplish. So what if it’s a few bricks shy of a full load. Thanks for sharing. You have a lot of talent.
ReplyDeleteIt's a barn behind the tractor of course.
ReplyDeleteI happen to think it is wonderful. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! And my eyes like to behold that piece of art!
ReplyDeleteIt looks very much like a collage. To enjoy watercolor work you have to see differently from doing dry media. It's not for everyone, that's true.
ReplyDeleteiTS NOT BAD AT ALL. Its your inner creative vibe
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday
much love...
you're too harsh of a critic. I think its very cool..actually the tractor is so good you dont look at the wall.
ReplyDeleteThat piece doesn't look bad to me. I like the brick wall, it can look like that sometimes. I think watercolors is a difficult medium to use, I certainly never master it.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
Enjoy your paintings, they are wonderful. It's not necessary being hard with critic to oneself. Painting is a fantastisc artwork and funny.
ReplyDeleteYou are way too harsh on yourself! Watercolor is about the only medium that I am even a little bit good at. LOL at the fish in the water bowl.
ReplyDeletethe tractor wheels are the best I've seen
ReplyDeleteDon't mention anything about the bricks and no one will know. Great painting. Now put Picasso's signature on it and see how much you can get for it.
ReplyDeleteI would be thrilled if I captured that snowy scene in watercolor. It's lovely, it's evocative, it's representational... why so hard on yourself?
ReplyDeleteYou're far too self critical, or perhaps HRH took the keyboard. I like it. Watercolor is damn hard. We think, because of those little peacock water color paints we used as kids, it's easy peasy. But it ain't. You're doing fine.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young, every school, church and youth group always insisted that we all sing. I am terrible at singing. I never understood why it was so important that I did so in public. Now it seems that the universe is demanding that we all be artist too.
ReplyDeleteYour painting has a lot of character!
ReplyDeleteThat's a 1,000 times better watercolor than I could do, so I find nothing to criticize in that jawn.
ReplyDeleteSnow is one of the most difficult things for an artist to accomplish satisfactorily - I think that you have painted it well.
ReplyDeleteI like it, you are too hard on yourself!
ReplyDeleteVery mid century - the brick almost looks like wallpaper.
ReplyDeleteMight not be how you thougt it would come out but, actually, it's rather good. Like a scene from a children's story book.
ReplyDeleteI like it. Those tractor wheels will chew up and spit out much.
ReplyDeleteI love it! A tractor in the snow is a lovely subject. And the wall is just as it should be for background - the suggestion of a wall. (Actually, I didn't pay any attention to it until you pointed it out:)
ReplyDeletePersonally, I can't draw a thing. Not with a pen, pencil, brush, or mop. Bleubeard asks if I draw flies in the summer, but that is not the same. You did a great job and I am not being facetious here. However, if you decide it is too painful, you can always call it abstract art and it will sell for thousands of dollars.
ReplyDeleteThat is a nice painting. The brick wall looks perfectly normal. Just you wait and see, it will look different in a few days. The machine tractor thing looks like it is frozen in time, like a frozen bee or ant. I like this painting.
ReplyDeleteIt looks fine to me.
ReplyDeleteHi Debra, Well, at least you did not quit your day job to become a bricklayer.* I thought that was a patterned background, making this a type of collage, especially with the pinkish rectangle to the right. The realistic and 3-D quality of the tractor and snow lend a surreal effect that I find appealing.

* On the other hand, although most bricks are laid horizontally, look up "basketweave brick bonds" and you will find some not too dissimilar to what you painted, including this one:

...thanks, the first one gave me a chuckle.
ReplyDeleteHey! I love it--as far as the brickwork goes-I think it looks great. Being an artist means. you have artistic license to paint things your own way. Happy Friday- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteYes I AM happy lol! ;) I think it's wonderful Debra...NOT bad at all. I LOVE the bricks so there. Really though, it's very nice. The snow is well done, has a Norman Rockwell vibe to it! ♥♥
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny. I too took a WC class BC and it just didn't work for me. Have a great day today.
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up! I think your painting is pretty good, you are being too hard on yourself. I have zero talent when it comes to art.
ReplyDeleteTractor is very good. Wallpaper maybe not so much but don't beat yourself up. the only thing I can draw is flies
ReplyDeleteLove the goldfish...so funny!!
ReplyDeleteI have seen some of your artwork in the past..You are talented!!
We all have different talents!!
Do not be over critical of your art work. You are creating and that's the important part. This is what I tell myself at least once a week!
ReplyDeleteDebra,
ReplyDeleteWe are our worst critic. The snow covered tractor and drifts are very realistic. The knobby tires really add texture adding more realism to picture. I would love to try painting but I'm a bit too insecure right now to try it. You did a very nice job. Don't beat yourself up so much, kiddo! ;)
I'm glad she forced you to post this. I love those big wheels, and the play of red and black... how it contrast with the snow.
ReplyDeleteI should check out Art Date. It sounds fun. Also, we should all be forced to art every now and again.
I actually like it. Don't sell yourself short!
ReplyDeleteI kind of dig the stylized quality to the brickwork. Maybe the experiment as a whole didn't work for you, but it's neat to see that you can get suck a strong almost textural feel from your painting.
ReplyDeleteNice art
ReplyDeleteDon't be so hard on yourself Debra, forget the bricks, the tractor and snow are good :-)
ReplyDeleteI love winter scenes. I still think about a painting I should have bought in Edmonton years ago: it featured an older white home surrounded by snow and snow-covered trees. Entirely white, yet so many shades of white. Painters are indeed, amazing.
ReplyDeleteThe snow-covered tractor and the red tires really pull me in, so I don't notice the bricks,Debra. I think the red mortar between them is cool. I'm looking forward to more of your art. I hope to get back to Rain's art dates soon.
ReplyDeleteIt's not as bad as you think! And if you hadn't pointed out the bricks, I wouldn't have even noticed them.
ReplyDeleteWay better than I could do. I love that you keep expanding your skills.
ReplyDeleteIt's not that bad girl!!!! It makes me smile!!! LOL! Big Hugs!
