Friday the 13th with all its bad luck vibes
seems an appropriate day to celebrate
Sisyphus, the Greek king punished
by the Gods for all eternity by having
to push a huge boulder up a hill every day,
only to have it roll back down every night.
But you know, things
can always be WORSE!
And it's not like
he NEVER gets a vacay --
How about some
variations on the theme?
And the Greek Gods
have kindly updated his punishment
and modernized it for our times.
Can meaning and purpose be
found in Sisyphus' eternal suffering?
The philosophy of Absurdism believes so.
So let's leave the last word
to Albert Camus, shall we?
Hahahaha
ReplyDeleteThese are great! The modern day Sisyphus hits too close to home!
And I totally forgot today is Friday the 13th. Maybe I should watch the movie again.
XOXO
So Sisyphean, which I always wish could be Sisyphusian. The worst nightmares of the bunch for me, the cubicle and the smiley face. Just before I started university, I had nightmares about those smiley faces. Odd. Then, my first day of classes, I approached the glass and concrete fine arts building with it’s yellow dots on the glass to warn off birds (and errant students) and someone had drawn smiley faces on all the dots!
ReplyDeletethat's sorta how I feel...every fucking morning.
ReplyDeleteI like the wfh version.
ReplyDeleteThe myth of Sisyphus is one of my go-to references for so much of life (second to Heraclitus's observation that one cannot step into the same river twice) Ah, and yes, Albert Camus' take on Sisyphus, a great existential commentary.
ReplyDeleteSisyphus and the dung beetle! Bwahahahahahahahaha
ReplyDeleteAnd yet people go to the gym to push around slabs of metal every single day.
ReplyDeleteVery funny and a great way to start my day. You have a good one.
ReplyDeleteWorks from home. lolololol.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. Too many giggles over such a tragic story!
ReplyDeleteWorks from home? 😳
Been there! Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling Old Age Sisyphus!
ReplyDeletePoor Sisyphus! Ancient tales still continue to entertain us today!
ReplyDeleteSisyphus in the chair lift going up the incline…lol.
ReplyDeleteFunny stuff, Debra. I now also realize that today is Friday, it's mid-morning here, and I thought it was Saturday. Do I need to start the day over? Nah!
ReplyDeleteOh Nooooo. I hadn't realized today was the Friday the 13th. Senior Moment strikes again.
ReplyDeleteI bet Sisyphus slept like a rock every night.
ReplyDeleteGive me a minute to come up with something profound, At times we reakuze that out purpose in life is to push endlessly.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you brought up Camus.
ReplyDeleteI always find this day to be lucky
ReplyDeleteUpdating from Greek Mythology to Geek Mythology.
ReplyDeleteI scream NOOOOOO also if I had to wear a tie for eternity.
@ Tundra Bunny -- GROAN!

ReplyDeleteI find the chair life extremely relatable.
ReplyDeleteAnother variation: Laurel and Hardy's The Music Box.
ReplyDeleteWhat a tragic way to spend ones life..
ReplyDeleteThese were funny! I am looking forward to seeing the lunar eclipse. I will be able to see a good part of it from my bedroom window. Poor Sisyphus, i understand him in many ways.

@ Ur-spo -- Hey, thanks for the link to that terrific video! I didn't know those aspects of the Sisyphus myth. He was a real clever asshole -- no wonder the Gods punished him for all of eternity, eh?

ReplyDeleteI mean... if the boulder is as bad as it gets, its not so bad. No Covid. No crazy despots trying to take over.
