The King of Rock 'n Roll

Friday the 13th with all its bad luck vibes
seems an appropriate day to celebrate
Sisyphus, the Greek king punished
by the Gods for all eternity by having
to push a huge boulder up a hill every day,
only to have it roll back down every night.

But you know, things
can always be WORSE!

And it's not like
he NEVER gets a vacay --

How about some
variations on the theme?

And the Greek Gods
have kindly updated his punishment
and modernized it for our times.

Can meaning and purpose be
found in Sisyphus' eternal suffering?
The philosophy of Absurdism believes so.

So let's leave the last word
to Albert Camus, shall we?

These are great! The modern day Sisyphus hits too close to home!
And I totally forgot today is Friday the 13th. Maybe I should watch the movie again.

    XOXO

  2. So Sisyphean, which I always wish could be Sisyphusian. The worst nightmares of the bunch for me, the cubicle and the smiley face. Just before I started university, I had nightmares about those smiley faces. Odd. Then, my first day of classes, I approached the glass and concrete fine arts building with it’s yellow dots on the glass to warn off birds (and errant students) and someone had drawn smiley faces on all the dots!

  5. The myth of Sisyphus is one of my go-to references for so much of life (second to Heraclitus's observation that one cannot step into the same river twice) Ah, and yes, Albert Camus' take on Sisyphus, a great existential commentary.

  28. @ Ur-spo -- Hey, thanks for the link to that terrific video! I didn't know those aspects of the Sisyphus myth. He was a real clever asshole -- no wonder the Gods punished him for all of eternity, eh?
