I know many of you out there
enduring the dog days of summer
LONG FOR HALLOWEEN!
Oh, come to us, COME TO US,
cool, crisp days and chilly nights,
all things spooky and macabre,
fall leaves, harvest moons, pumpkins,
bonfires, sweaters and caramel apples!
I too feel Halloween's SIREN CALL . . .

But HOW can we get
in a Halloween mood
in the middle of SUMMER?
EASY!
Just carve a
JACK-O-MELON!

LET'S HAVE A HAPPY . . .
Some very nice srt there! And a bit cooler would be good, not ready for Fall yet.
ReplyDeleteHow can it be August already?
ReplyDeleteA Jack-o-melon?
ReplyDeleteI can't. I simply can't.
Haha so well said by someone that all the weathers reside inside us :)
ReplyDeleteWhy wait for the season why not bring it forth from innate world and lay ir around you :)
Wonderful Summerween sentiments. Really it's amazing that it remained for you to invent this holiday, and with melons so handy for jack-o-melons. This is a holiday so many people want. My cats want it. They want you to know that they are tired of trying to find some cool spot on the floor, when there are no cool spots. They are tired of trying to find a way of crawling somehow inside the fan caging in order to become one with the air flow. And you know, I am too. It has been a long, long heatwave and here in Western Washington we are just not used to it; the cool weather cannot come fast enough. I miss my cold damp socks and having to make up my mind which coat to wear. Funny how a coat that's usually not even warm enough becomes so hot this time of year that you want to laugh, and you don't even want to touch it. Well I prefer to feel cozy, not desperately overheated. When it is so hot, where can you run? I'm not kidding. Summerween is a scary time, it turns out. But the wheel turns.
ReplyDeletei just might do this!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha
ReplyDeleteOMG Debra! You scared me!
I had to run and look at my calendar.
XOXO
OMG!!! You may have started a new holiday.
ReplyDeleteYou know I love this photos. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteyes yes yes That is the right attitude on 1 August !
ReplyDeleteWho is longing? ..... ME! I've already planned my costume in the event we have a party here at the senior complex this year or at least a Halloween themed bingo.
ReplyDeleteThey're now talking about summer seasonal affective disorder. I used to LOVE summer, this year it's depressing.
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for FALL because it's 177 degrees here. 😳
ReplyDeleteI love your Halloween artwork!
I am so ready for those same cooler temps and Halloween - can we please start October sooner, soonest, tomorrow!! I may have to try the water-o-lantern just to see if that will help deter any more hotness.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a Jack-o-melon. I must admit, I actually looked at the date on my computer. Is it Halloween already?!?
ReplyDeleteSummerween is also summerwilt.
ReplyDeleteI hate the dog days, but when they're over I'm back to work. So while I too am longing for Halloween, I'm not keen on September.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be the mandaorian this year and Alex will be Baby Yoda
ReplyDeleteMy wife doesn't want to do Leia but I saw her browsing Padme costumes on Amazon. We'll see what she settles with
Bring on the candy corn!
ReplyDelete@ Adam -- Oh, that will be TOO cute!
ReplyDeleteI know it. I slept on the floor of my living room last night. I'd never done that before. But it was the only way to stay semi-cool, but a window.
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween, Debra. Whatever delusional mindset it takes to contend this hellacious heat.
I'm always in the summerween mood. Honestly, I wish Halloween happened all year round.

The jovial vibe from your piece is so good. This is what a cheeky and fun attitude that will bring joy to life. Keep going Deb!
ReplyDeleteFed up with summertime already. Bring on autumn! And Halloween! My countdown to Halloween has officially started anyway.
ReplyDeleteNo no no. No Halloween. No end to summer. You of all people should know better. You live in the frozen wastelands of the North, and all too soon you will be cursing the bitter cold and lack of daylight. Summer may mean sweat and bugs and humidity, but it is way better than any stupid candy holiday.
ReplyDelete(The art is pretty sweet, tho. I am glad you are drawing again. Were these heretical works spontaneous or are you taking another class?)
@ Old Lurker -- I AM taking another class, but these Halloween themed pieces are not from it. I did these on my own in fulfillment of a promise made to a friend on which I had long procrastinated, alas. I blame the pandemic. I hope to post the drawing class efforts later in August.
ReplyDeleteSummer is misbehaving so badly. I've never been a great lover of the hot months. And now they are hotter and longer lasting. Enough! Enough already! Bring on Summerween! And then the blessed Autumn with its cool temps, rain, and relief from old Sol burning us.

If I carver a jack-o-melon, I think I would fill it with vodka or some fruity punch with vodka as one of the ingredients. Or let's not carve anything. Just give me a bottle of vodka.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Great art (and sculpture!).
ReplyDeleteBest holiday bar none!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Having been through umpteen thunder-boomers, lightning storms and 18+ tornado warnings already this summer, I am soooo ready for autumn... I'll even bring the potato juice, LOL!
ReplyDeleteYour not the first person I’ve seen with wishes for Hallowe’en recently! It must be a thing this time of year.
ReplyDeleteToo cool!! You find the best stuff!
ReplyDeleteI love you're drawings...a lot..and ?
ReplyDeleteI WANT HALLOWEEN...........NOW.
I like your art work. I want the hot weather to continue for as long as possible.
ReplyDeleteMaybe trick or treat might work dressed in swimwear but it's too damn hot for most costumes.
ReplyDeleteThe best summer pleasure where i live is the monsoons. They failed completely in 2020 and were weak in 2021.
ReplyDeleteI began to be afraid that we were all going to die.
This year they are back to normal and it looks like we are going to have plenty of pumpkins, melons, etcetera to play with. It feels like one of those resurrection ferns that you see sometimes.
That 160 degrees pumpkin is hilarious.
ReplyDeleteWe actually made a jack o melon when I was a kid but they go droopy so fast!
ReplyDeleteYour Halloween artwork is awesome! What a great, unexpected idea to carve out a watermelon.
ReplyDeleteLove your artwork! And I love Halloween. It's exciting to see spooky, creepy and all around unsettling decorations popping up in the stores!
ReplyDeleteAugust is spooky season in Japan, so I am honoring my tea school by getting my spookiness on early.
ReplyDeleteLove the watermelon jack o lantern.
ReplyDeleteTanya should be back by end October.
Not keen on skulls just now after seeing photos of Ukrainian POW head stuck on a fence.
This summer has been too hot for me. I much prefer late summer / early autumn.
