Drawing Animals in Pencil

I did another graphite drawing course in September-October called "Drawing Animals in Pencil." These were all drawn freehand, although I did grid the original kitten and moose photos for extra guidance on positioning. Shading was done with my favourite trio of 2B, 4B and 6B pencils. I enjoyed the course and am happy enough with my results.

Northern Gannets

Grumpy Kitten

Polar Bear

Puppy Dog

Baby Llama

Young Moose

  1. Love!
You know how much I like when people post their art.
And I think that if one were to draw that kitty from a live model, one would need nerves of steel! LOL

    XOXO

  3. I think pencils for art are awfully underrated, I love the look of them. And I must say for not being a artist, these look amazingly good and it's amazing the detail you get just from pencil. You ought to feel proud.

  4. These are beautiful, Debra. I didn’t see live gannets this year. They are incredible creatures! Thank you!

  8. So good, Debra. Some of these are really detailed. If I drew them, people would say, What is it? Oh, it's supposed to be that?

  19. @ Old Lurker -- I just finished a "line and wash journal" course (permanent ink and watercolour). This week I started a "drawing faces in perspective" course, and next week I start another one that uses coloured art pencils on black paper. Busy, busy, busy! What can I say -- it keeps me off the streets.

  25. Thank you, those are very nice. I like birds, so the gannets get a star. I also like llamas and moose, so they get a star.
This way of drawing is fascinating to me. One of my brothers can do it. It is a cool and excellent skill. Everybody gets a star!🌠 because it is a nice thing.

  28. @Debra: Thank goodness for art. I can only imagine the kinds of mischief you might get up to on the streets. I have heard all about those lesbian street gangs. Snow forts! Street brawls! Stealing memes out of people's backyards! Fundraising for the UCP! It is best to keep you busy with pencil and paper.

  29. I like the moose. You didn't want to do its legs and feet, so you put it out to pond.

  37. O.M.G. These are so good. I don't have a darn bit of talent and I am so jealous. I especially love the Moose. Why? Because I don't think I've ever loved a picture of a Moose before.
