Today is the start of the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Rabbit (Hare)! So what can we expect the next 12 months to bring? According to Susan Levitt and Jean Tang in Taoist Astrology:
The year of the Hare is a time of peace, calm, leisure, and rest after the chaos of the previous Tiger year. People enjoy the arts, gourmet food, and luxuries. Money can be made easily, but it is spent easily. The Dragon year that follows will be a wild and exhausting time, so enjoy a Hare year as an opportunity for relaxation, pleasure, family gatherings, entertainment, and comfortable travel. Expect political compromise and diplomatic peacemaking on a global level.
Well, that sounds pretty good, doesn't it?
To encourage prosperity and abundance for the upcoming year, exchange a coin with another person while wishing them Gung Hey Fat Choy (Happy New Year)! Make sure each of you brings your own coin of equal value to give to one another -- don't just pass the same coin back and forth. You don't want prosperity to simply swirl or circle around -- you want it to come and stay with you!
Or how about making a Prosperity Bowl?
Oh, I think we could all do with a bit of calm for a year or so.
ReplyDeleteI was all over the idea of making a prosperity bowl until I saw 12 eggs. And, btw, is that boiled, not boiled? With the price of eggs now, the idea of making a bowl seemed more implausible for me as other ingredients went along, but I'm looking forward to "peace, calm, leisure, and rest".
ReplyDelete@ BootsandBraids -- I thought exactly the same things as you did! I too wondered if the eggs should be hard boiled to keep them from going bad for a longer period? I just don't know.
ReplyDeleteThe world could use a Rabbit year! Here’s to it!
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for less wild and more prosperous!
ReplyDeleteThis is a year I can get behind! And thank you for remembering ALL the people who celebrate the lunar new year. Quite a few nations as well as Chinese people.
ReplyDeleteGung Hay Fat Choy!
"time of peace, calm, leisure" The year sounds good to me!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the prosperity bowl! Gong hei fat choyπ
Happy New Year, peace and prosperity to all
ReplyDeleteI await your prosperity bowl, although you'll have to already be prosperous to waste all those eggs.
ReplyDeleteI can certainly use some peace, calm, leisure, and rest. So, I shall enjoy myself. Particularly is the Dragon will be crabby next year.
ReplyDeleteWe need a year like the one you describe! Wishing you a Happy Year of the Rabbit!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting, I learned something new.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Since I was born in a rabbit year, hoping for some good luck in 2023!
ReplyDeleteHare, Hare! We could all use a more peaceful year... Gung Hey Fat Choy, Debra!
ReplyDeleteThank you for a post on Rabbit Lunar New Year !
ReplyDeleteWash the negative energy of the coins in salt water? Next time the lottery gets up to a billion dollars I'm going to wash the dollar bills I donate.
ReplyDeleteA lovely calm year is exactly what is needed.
ReplyDeleteI managed to find some dumplings so we are spared ill luck for the year.
ReplyDeleteNo killer rabbits I hope.
Couldn't be a more perfect time for the year of the hare.. we are in need of some peace and calm.
ReplyDeleteProsperity to all of us, of every sort, not just money.
ReplyDeleteWe could all use a year of peace, calm, leisure, and rest after this last tiger year, Debra. Terry was born in a year of the rabbit, and I was born in a year of the tiger. He's stuck with me for forty years! I am wiped out from 2022, so I'm focusing on relaxing in Hawaii. I'm finally making progress. Wishing you and your Rare One a wonderful Year of the Rabbit!
ReplyDeleteI really hope they're right about this coming year. Last year sucked.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of a prosperity bowl. I was born in year of the rat.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Happy Year of the Rabbit. Especially if it's Bugs, Harvey, or the one on a box of Trix.
ReplyDeleteWould it work as well with plastic or china eggs such as those put into a chicken nest to encourage laying? I've never seen combination gold and silver coins.
ReplyDeleteA bit diappointed to hear "my" dragon year will be turbulent.
Love the idea of prosperity bowl!
ReplyDeleteHappy Year of the Rabbit!
XOXO
Eggs! Eggs! Actually, there are lots of complicated New Year lucky displays, but I have never seen anything quite like that! Debra, you and your artistic talent are needed here. I wanted to buy some little rabbit charms, etc. to give with the red envelopes (what's all this with coins? People expect paper money!), but cute rabbits were definitely in the minority.
ReplyDelete--Jim
Happy Year of the Rabbit to you, Debra! I want someone to send me a bowl with eggs in it. They are valuable.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Do you mean we only get one 'restful' year in between?
ReplyDeleteI love the prosperity bowl; did you create one on your alter?
Gung Hey Fat Choy!!
Apparently in Vietnamese culture it is the Year of the Cat. Please let HRH know! Either way, I hope for a restful and restorative year.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
anything is better than last year...
ReplyDeletePolitical compromise would be very nice. For starters, Santos admitted that he was a drag queen. He was quite pretty too.
ReplyDeleteGung Hey Fat Choy, Debra!
Belated happy Chinese new year!
ReplyDeleteNext year is my year ππ²
ReplyDeleteWe like to say year of the Hare...special beasts, always a good day when you see one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up on Dragon year...we need a rest this year after last year and eight funerals, time to gather strength before what is to come!!
Hi via Wood fairy's blog π
Where can you get that many eggs?
ReplyDeleteHappy New year Lunier year to you and all dear friend!,
ReplyDeleteMay Lord be showering his grace upon all of us amen.
Saw first time such fortune bowl. I thought she will place it in the oven to cook oh dear forget it
We kicked off the Year of the Rabbit at tea lessons with a special tea luncheon. It was so delightful. LOL, a lot of the older tea students know about my affection for Sailor Moon (her name means Rabbit in Japanese) so we made a lot of jokes about that at the gathering.
