Rain's art prompt today correlates to how I've done art for most of my life -- drawing in graphite pencil. Without art instruction or supplies when I was young, it's what was accessible and available to me back in those days. So I'm very familiar with searching out and trying to replicate the visual nuances of grayscale.
I still enjoy drawing in graphite and continue to find it a rewarding challenge. Here's some new drawings from a recent course I took called "Birds and Flowers in Graphite." My favourite is the hawk.

Great drawings!
ReplyDeleteYou really are quite good; I love all of these.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful results, Debra. You are talented!
ReplyDeleteI thought you'd done a great grayscale there! Your drawings are very secure, nuanced.
ReplyDeleteA lot of talent, and hard work.
ReplyDeleteWhoa.
ReplyDeleteLove them. Especially that first flower. Graphite really can help the artist express nuance.
XOXO
All beautiful. My favorite is also the hawk.
ReplyDeleteWell done!
ReplyDeleteIncredible talent. I am so envious of those who have talent like that.
ReplyDeleteyou really are talented! i've always enjoyed pencil art the most. probably because for many years it was all i could afford!
ReplyDeleteVery nice renditions. You captured the feather detail beautifully.
ReplyDeleteYou are really good!
ReplyDeleteYou should be signing them.
ReplyDeleteI like the songbird, too.
ReplyDeleteI presume you are drawing based upon reference photos? Are those photos in color?
Very good art. Love the detail on the birds especially
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYes, the hawk is especially beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour drawings are so detailed and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
@ Old Lurker -- Yes, we draw from reference photos (xeroxes). In this course, they were B&W but in one course I took, the instructor had us draw in graphite from colour references -- much more challenging to do!
ReplyDeleteYour bird portraits are exquisite -- you really have a knack for drawing animals!
ReplyDeleteGreat pencil work! You are good.
ReplyDeleteNice. My personal favorite is that bird that looks like a "jay". It feels like it is about to say something.
ReplyDeleteThese are so amazing. Both of the birds are amazing. It's great to have the patience to draw in so much detail. I wish I did. Have a great rest of your week. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteLovely, all. At dinner the other night a bird banked and turned outside the window. "A hawk", I shouted, identifying it from it's back. It was a hawk. I was so proud.
ReplyDeleteThey are all well done in my judgement, and I would imagine that this medium is challenging. Great job!
ReplyDeleteOMG! Your art is always so impressive. Nailed the theme perfectly. Have a nice evening.
ReplyDeleteI especially like the bird.
ReplyDeleteThey are all beautiful.
ReplyDelete...gray has its own special beauty, make your day a masterpiece.
ReplyDeleteWow lovely drawings, they look like photos rather than drawings.
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by my blog.
