Thursday Art Date With Rain -- "Grayscale"

Rain's art prompt today correlates to how I've done art for most of my life -- drawing in graphite pencil. Without art instruction or supplies when I was young, it's what was accessible and available to me back in those days. So I'm very familiar with searching out and trying to replicate the visual nuances of grayscale.

I still enjoy drawing in graphite and continue to find it a rewarding challenge. Here's some new drawings from a recent course I took called "Birds and Flowers in Graphite." My favourite is the hawk.

  15. @ Old Lurker -- Yes, we draw from reference photos (xeroxes). In this course, they were B&W but in one course I took, the instructor had us draw in graphite from colour references -- much more challenging to do!

  18. Nice. My personal favorite is that bird that looks like a "jay". It feels like it is about to say something.

  20. Lovely, all. At dinner the other night a bird banked and turned outside the window. "A hawk", I shouted, identifying it from it's back. It was a hawk. I was so proud.
