For this week's Friday Face OFF link party
of art featuring faces, hosted by Nicole of
DVArtist, Art, Food, Gardening blog . . .
Rather than a front view or profile depiction of a face,
here's a recent graphite drawing showing a
back view of a woman's face and hair instead.
I'm particularly pleased with
how her trench coat turned out.
Trench coats are certainly a standard item
of professional/corporate outerwear attire.
I wore a couple of them all through my career.
But I haven't worn one since I retired six years ago!
They seem too formal for my casual lifestyle now.

Great job! Where did those six years go?
ReplyDeleteFantastic drawing, you are so talented. I still have a lovely trench coat, but haven't worn it for years! Happy weekend, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDelete...I remember when trench coats were popular, I had a London Fog. I haven't seen one in years.
ReplyDeleteWell then what do you wear when you are in the trenches?
ReplyDeleteI also think the coat turned out well.
Happy Black Friday! I hope you buy lots of stuff. Maybe you can go to the mall full of shoppers and Christmas music.
Trench coats are timeless; I just looked at on a fashion magazine sites the latest model of it. The shoulders are quite large.
ReplyDeleteYour art drawing is perfect of it 🥇
I love it. I always had a trench coat. It's gone from my closet... along with the brief case.
ReplyDeleteVery good Debra!
ReplyDeleteYou captured not only the look of a trenchcoat, but the feeling as well! I was immediately transported to a dark street and an even darker assignation!! Ooh, assignation...is that a great word for trenchcoat activity or what?! I can't see her face, but I just know her eye makeup is smoky! 🤫
ReplyDeleteI'll say, you really did pick up on a lot of details in the trench.
ReplyDeleteHello Debra, A remarkable drawing with the texture of that coat--it almost looks like a photograph that has been processed by a computer! When I got rid of all my old office clothes, the only thing I kept was the trench coat, thinking that such a long coat is potentially still useful for Cleveland's cold and wind.

OMGosh this is just excellent. You got the folds and shadows perfectly. I truly love this. Thank you for sharing your art with FFO and have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteGreat rendition. I may still have one hanging in the back of a closet somewhere.
ReplyDeleteBackside carries a mysterious vibe
ReplyDeleteThat is a fantastic drawing, Debra!
ReplyDeleteVery retro. We don't really see trench coats anymore.
ReplyDeleteyes well done !
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing. I am truly impressed. You draw SO well, Debra.
ReplyDeleteLovely. My trench coat has been passed on.
ReplyDeleteFeeling the noire vibes. This got me thinking about trench coats. So yes.
ReplyDeleteI had to go look it up. Because I use the word noire maybe I am using it wrong. The definition I found today was- cynicism, fatalism, ambiguous morality. OK. Sometimes words are like Ouija Boards.
ReplyDeleteI always associate trench coats with detectives, from watching too many old movies I guess. Good black-and-white drawing, which makes it even more like an old movie.
ReplyDeleteNever worn a trench coat - never had the sort of job that required it.
ReplyDeleteIt takes skill to know which details to pick out and which to ignore. Lovely drawing.
You did a fabulous job with that trenchcoat. I can practically feel the fabric. I wonder if trenchcoats will ever come back into style again. I still have an oldie. Happy weekend Debra. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteYou really did a wonderful job with the trench coat, Debra! I don't wear my two trenches often either, for the same reasons and because they're more like trench jackets than coats, but sometimes they're perfect for the weather. (Not at the moment, because it's been freezing cold here and we had our first snowfall today.)
ReplyDeleteAnd the telephone cable sheep from your previous post are just STUNNINGLY funny :-DDD
All the best and happy Sunday, Traude

I love the details of the fabric of the woman's trenchcoat, it looks so realistic and beautiful.

My goodness. Has six years really whooshed past? Crazy. Excellent drawing!
ReplyDeleteI remember when you retired. I swear it was about six months ago. The trench coat turned out beautifully.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Well done.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on.
Sometimes, it's all I wear *evil grin*
ReplyDeleteNice line work and shading!
Your drawing is perfect!! A casual wardrobe is a payback for a long, successful career. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteThat picture will work for my next episode of Rick O'Shea, Private Investigator. May I use it, with credit to the artist?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a mysterious, sinister look.
@ The Blog Fodder -- Sure, go ahead and use it. I'll be thrilled to be part of Rick O'Shea's next noir adventure!
ReplyDeleteThe texture and drape of fabric is so important in a drawing or painting. Sometimes I find that part of the work more captivating than the faces, so your piece is perfect! A hint of the face and the rest is the folds and gathers of the coat. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteCheers!

dear Debra no doubt you stunned me with your exceptional details and your adjustment of light and shade is awesome as always my friend .
ReplyDeletemy eyes are captivated each time how you amazingly you draw with pencil and graphite ,they look more fascinating than colored ones to me :)
