TAD & FFO -- "Snowed In"

I'm linking this art post with both
(whose prompt this week is "snowed in")
and with Nicole's Friday Face OFF.

This is the only coloured pencil art
I have with snow in it.
And it's much too blue.

Oh well, snow is hard to do.

So was the polar bear cub
but it's still pretty cute.

And here's an even cuter one!

  5. I don't know, I think the blue reads snow to me. And the punim on your polar bear is sweet.

  6. Oh, I really like this one!
I think it reads playful and very... winter? Like Mads, I'd love a xmas card with it!

    XOXO

  7. I love this picture, however, it looks more purple then blue.
Growing up in N. Illinois, it seemed to me the first snow always looked blue to me! After that ... meh!!

  8. I love your polar bear and I agree, this would make a beautiful Christmas card!!

  9. First comment says words from my heart dear Debra!
The cuteness theme is exquisitely done here .
I agree snow must be hard to draw but once again my amazingly talented friend you proved mastery here mashallah ❤❤❤

  10. Black and white and blue all over! It's a real charmer, Debra. The cub looks funny and playful - as they do, until they grow bigger and are terrifying.
    Cheers!

  11. I love this polar bear drawing! It's not too blue. It reads like snow. And a white bear in snow, quite a challenge.

  12. Oh my, dear Debra, 🥰 I just fell in love!
The two polar bear babies are BOTH adorable. I wish I could draw polar bears so beautifully! And of course the “real” little one is heartwarming as he wiggles towards the camera!
You're probably right that now every book in our National Library could fit in one app on my phone - but a book that's several hundred years old still has a little more charm 😉
Hugs and all the best from Austria, Traude

  14. Polar bear is cute, although I wouldn't want to get slap by one. Don't think the out come would be good.

  15. Your drawings are amazing
I think it’s perfect. Your so very talented

  16. Hello Debra, Too cute! But honestly, one would that that by now you would have had enough experience observing snow--so no excuses. The smile on your bear reminds me of the female polar bear in Vladislav Starewicz's "Carrousel boréal". For some reason, it is hard to find a lot of stills from this movie, but this one will give you an idea:

  18. Exceptional! You are so talented. Please move to Málaga so we can take art classes together.

  19. Not to worry, Debra. You will have plenty of opportunities to draw sn*w over the next few months.

I am quite upset that we are likely to lose polar bears in the wild.

  20. Yes, polar bear cubs are soooo cute and cuddly until they grow up and can take your head off with a single swipe of a paw!

And as an FYI to your followers, adult polar bears are about 3 times the size of an adult black bear (which can be 300 lbs or more)... an Inuit hunter once explained to me to never aim for the bear's head as the bullets will just ricochet off it. Instead, he said to aim for the front shoulder and if it still managed to keep charging on 3 legs, to shoot out the other front shoulder! Such skill requires nerves of steel too, given how fast polar bears can run when charging at someone.

  21. Good drawing. Quite a cute bear too. Nothing wrong with blue snow. Why are bears so cute?

    Have a lovely day.

  22. @ Parnassus (Jim) -- It looks charming and whimsical!

  23. @ Tundra Bunny -- You've had some unique experiences in your life, no doubt about that! Did you ever have to test out the Inuit hunter's instructions in an emergency situation up in the Arctic?

  26. I got some basic shotgun training from the R.C.M.P in Resolute Bay, but the recoil from the 20 gauge shotgun knocked me flat onto my back! Luckily, my sightings of polar bears were from safe distances except for the time an Arctic wolf came between me and a bear on Ellesmere Island and saved my life. Guardian angels come in all shapes, sizes and species sometimes, LOL!

  34. Happy Hannukah. I like the idea of this Observance. I like that there was a miracle. It is such a heavy holiday, I am happy to share it with you.

  35. Yes sure it looks cute. It is a cute fluffy pup. I am offended by the way the culture romanticize fluffy polar bear pups. I would take that as a sign of danger. Something is wrong. I would never mess with that.
We have all these problems, and you are talking about polar bears and house spiders? What the fuck?
I will take advice from the squirrels.
    We have nice fur.

Our life is short. Probably some polar bear will eat me, and before that he will sell me a can of coca-cola.

  36. Very well done! And the real one looks like Knut from Berlin. Babies are cute, no matter which species.
