For this week's Friday Face OFF link party
of art featuring faces, hosted by Nicole of
DVArtist, Art, Food, Gardening blog . . .
Here's my most recent art
(from a June workshop)
of prairie crocuses done in
coloured pencils on fawn paper.
Okay, so I can hear you all saying --
"Crocuses? WTF?
They're not faces!"
But wait, just hear me out . . . .
The first flower to emerge after a long winter
on the Canadian prairies is the crocus.
Indigenous people called it "the ears of the earth,"
believing that the crocus blooms so early
in order to listen for the arrival of Spring.
EARS!!!!
Close enough to fulfill the
Face Requirement, I submit!

...they look like faces to me!
ReplyDeleteLove your floral portrait
ReplyDeleteLove the crocuses! Great job!
ReplyDeleteI see faces 😃
ReplyDeleteWell painted 👍🤩
Typical. Nicole has a link party celebrating faces and you post genitals instead. There's always somebody.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, they are aesthetically pleasing, and I am glad you got some art in during sportsball month.
@ Old Lurker -- Thank you, Lurkie. Your insight is always appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThe crocuses are delightful!
ReplyDeleteLove your prairie crocuses Debra. Regardless of whether or not they feature faces, I always love to see your art work. We call these flowers Pasque flowers which tend to open here during the Easter period.
ReplyDeleteFaces or ears or not, it's very pretty!
ReplyDeleteStunning crocus art work ~ Wow!
ReplyDeleteWishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

I accept your explanation. Beautiful drawing.
ReplyDeleteCrocuses are a hit with me. They bring back fond memories of wandering around on the prairie.
ReplyDeleteLove the Crocuses.... they are definitely a harbinger of Spring
ReplyDeleteHere as well. Nice colors and shading! Happy weekend.
Art is always art and appreciated!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend Debra!
They are lovely. I am not getting genitals at all.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if that would hold up in court. But then again I don’t care. Looks like a face to me!
ReplyDeleteHopefully, you'll see crocuses next spring just like your wonderful art. This is if the bulbs don't get baked into oblivion this summer.
ReplyDeleteYou are the lawyer I defer to your expertise.
ReplyDeleteCrocus faces are just the sweetest ever! I love them, such a beautiful drawing.
ReplyDeleteOhhh you are such a fabulous artist and yes it does fit the requirements. Not only for the ears but every flower really does have a face. Thank you for joining FFO and have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteI think they’re lovely. And I liked the story behind them
ReplyDeleteYes I think close enough
You've convinced me!
ReplyDeleteHi Debra -- first, before I forget, thanks for coming by! And I DO believe flowers have faces and so there! NOt even stretching it for FFO! I love your colored pencil piece -- you did a fabulous job. You nailed the color and the center!
ReplyDeleteLovely crocuses.
ReplyDeleteThat's lovely. You really do have a talent.
ReplyDeleteThat's a fun factoid. I never knew that and will hopefully remember it next year when they bloom. It's always fun to see them pop up before everything else.
ReplyDeleteEars! Fun connection :)
ReplyDelete(I'm here from Nicole's Friday Face Off.)
Well, crocuses do have very hairy stems and leaves that could be shaved, so close enough!
ReplyDeletethey look divine !!!
ReplyDeletei loved how the pencil shade adds intensity in their beauty :) hats off to you and thank you so much for sharing this lovely art and making me familiar to gorgeous flowers the ears of earth wow
Beautiful crocuses, Debra. They are always such a lift in the late winter or early spring.
ReplyDeleteI think crocus' are so pretty! They always remind me of the childhood book Runaway Bunny.
ReplyDeleteCoincidentally, the crocus is a sign of early Spring here in England. Snowdrops emerge first in January, followed by crocuses and daffodils.
ReplyDeleteInteresting!
ReplyDeleteI love the beautiful ears you drew!
