The Black Cat Controversy

Since it's Friday the 13th today,
should we try to ward off even more bad luck
by avoiding black cats?

Let's consider all the arguments . . . .

Now, equal time for the other side . . . .

The truth, as it usually does,
probably lies somewhere in the middle . . . .

So Friday the 13th should be declared . . . .

  1. Hello Debra, Just yesterday, a black cat walked in front of me, but it had white socks, so does that count?

  2. I like black cats...but I love grey ones!
Thirteen is just a number of change...make it from negative to positive 🙂

  5. All things considered, black cats receive more bad luck from humans than vice versa. So I agree with you -- Friday the 13th should be declared "Black Cat Appreciation Day"!

  6. There is a Black Cat Appreciation Day already--on August 17.

    1. @ BootsandBraids -- Cats are ALWAYS good luck! Humans are just STUPID.

  9. Black cat crossing left to right: good luck. Crossing right to left: bad luck. The last word.

  14. I'm sure HRH appreciates your use of the Fairness Doctrine to battle the bad rap on black cats!! I wish today could actually be a day to harness the evil of all cats and direct it toward the haters of both real cat-ladies and imaginary "cat-eaters!" 🤬 Rowr! 🤬

  15. We've had many black cats in our family, never a bad one. Ornery, yes, certainly. Spooky? Occasionally. But never bad. My favorite combo is two cats: an all black and an orange tabby. Sublime!

  16. There's a "thing" here in South Carolina about all the black cats up for adoption because the religious folk think they are of the Devil ... makes me wanna adopt about twenty and let them fill the windows of Casa Bob Y Carlos!

  17. Those are good. Happy weekend, Debra.

  18. Black cat appreciation day has a much better ring to it and I like flipping the script on them crossing your path is bad luck. It is much more positive and cooler saying that they are giving you a warning.

  19. Ha! These definitely capture that classic cat passive-aggressiveness.

  20. We had two black cats in the States. Brothers who were so sweet and loving and never caused any trouble. Well, that’s an exaggeration. But they were never mean, aggressive, or malicious. No devilish tendencies. I love people who adopt black cats. They can often be so hard to place.
