For this week's Friday Face OFF link party
of art featuring faces, hosted by Nicole of
DVArtist, Art, Food, Gardening blog . . .
Another direct-to-paper sketch
done in permanent ink and watercolour wash,
based on art which I found on the internet.
With its cutesy cartoonish style and oversized eyes,
the original had a clear Japanese kawaii vibe.
I enjoyed trying to reproduce its "look."
Like virtually every student and beginner,
I always tend to draw eyes too
disproportionately large anyway, so
it was nice to do it deliberately this time, LOL!

Great drawing, Debra. Love the eyes!
ReplyDelete...Debra, your wonderful drawing reminds me of Dianne Dengel's work.

@ Tom -- Those are fun and delightful paintings! Thanks for the link!
DeleteGreat drawing. I too have always had trouble accurately drawing eyes.
ReplyDeleteLovely paintings, I always love big eyes. With art we can be extravagant! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI love the combination of blond hair and bright blue eyes.
ReplyDeleteYour art work is beautiful, Debra π
ReplyDeleteHappy FFO π

@ Parnassus (Jim) -- I never thought of her famous "Big Eyes" paintings, so thanks for the reminder, lol! When I was a teen in the 70s, I had a couple of her prints in my bedroom. And I also enjoyed the 2014 movie "Big Eyes" that was made about how her husband ripped off her fame and fortune until she bested him!
DeleteMeow!!! love it!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so nice Debra!
ReplyDeleteAlmost has a Japanese anime feel tp it.
ReplyDeleteI really do like this style of art.
ReplyDeleteLove that; it's a great style of drawing and painting.
ReplyDeleteI love big eyes. They always make me think that the brains behind them have wonderfully huge tales to tell. Also, that cat looks so relaxed... as if someone is mentally scratching its spiritual ears just right (probably with paint).
ReplyDeleteThis is your best ink and watercolour sketch to date! Love the brightness of your colours, especially the blue eyes!
ReplyDeleteGreat art. I immediately thought anime. When I’m doodling people, the eyes are always oversized and sad.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Now sell it on Deviant Art.
ReplyDeleteWow! You are amazing. This is simply fantastic. I wish I had your talent or a little bit of it anyway. LOL Thank you for sharing with FFO and have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThis is brilliant
ReplyDeleteTwo pairs of blue eyes, double the assignment. They both have a lot of attitude... love it!
ReplyDeleteYou have achieved some nice shading in the face and jacket.
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous. You definitely achieved kawaii vibe. I thought it had that feel before I even read your post. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteWow. Strikingly beautiful eyes -- such a deep blue, as if I could swim in them. You're doing great with this art. Hope you're doing great in all ways.
ReplyDeleteLove this! And eyes too big are always cute. My neighbor W (84 years old) has blue eyes like this, too! At the weekly brunch the other women (his wife sadly had to go) , they are all after him :-)
ReplyDeleteHe does NOT like that.
Beautiful big eyes are always an eye-catcher anyway - and when they are so blue: a wonderful sight, like my grandson's eyes ππ₯° Very beautifully painted/drawn!
ReplyDeleteWarm greetings from Austria and a wonderful Advent season, Traude
