Farewell, Jackiesue

Very sad news in the blogosphere today -- long-time blogger Jackiesue Denney of YellowDog Granny has passed away at the age of 81. I was privileged to call her my friend and I will miss her tremendously.

On her blog, Jackiesue described herself as a "liberal pagan living in West, Texas. Yes. That West, Texas." She was a fearless hell-raiser and always spoke her mind, no matter the pushback or opposition. Her blog had the very best and very latest political memes skewering right-wing intolerance, discrimination, hate, politics and wrongdoings. She was a fierce and uncompromising supporter of all minorities, including the Black, Latino, Jewish and LGBTQ+ communities. Yet Jackiesue also had a fantastic sense of humour which was displayed regularly on her blog and in person.

Jackiesue was a tremendous volunteer in her community, driving for Meals on Wheels, organizing holiday parties and cooking special meals at the seniors' home, always ready to lend a helping hand. Jackiesue adored her family and doted on her great-grandchildren in particular, attending all their sporting events and being so proud of all their achievements.

Passionate about feminism, paganism and the Goddess, Jackiesue's favourite deity was the Norse Goddess Freya. I have no doubt that she is now sitting at Freya's right hand, feasting and carousing with the Valkyries and other warrior women in Freya's Hall.

No tribute to Jackiesue would be complete without noting her favourite word, used lavishly and in all possible situations --

I feel that the following meme, taken from her YellowDog Granny blog, serves as a fitting farewell on her behalf to all of the enemies, trolls, demons, haters and fascists she spent so much of her time fighting . . .

. . . just as I'm sure this other meme from her blog represents Jackiesue's parting invitation to us all to carry on her fire, spirit and audacity --

  1. I should not be laughing, but I am at the memes. That word is my favourite also and I liberally use it. So much so that my 91 year old mother says to my kids, “And there’s that word, always has to be in there when she’s speaking “. Sending you condolences on the loss of your friend. Rita

  2. My condolences Debs on the loss of your fellow blogger and friend. It's always sad to read of a loss in the blog community. Was she a member of the Anne Marie Fuck Yeah Society??? From reading about her, it could have been Anne Marie! Maybe the two are now meeting up?

  9. 🥹 Oh no. My heart knew this was coming when Jackiesue told us in November that she couldn't be our light anymore, but it still hurts. Every Monday, I still hoped she would dump some memes from her stash. I never understood where she found them all, so funny and always helping us laugh at shitty politicians. Oh, how much she would have loved giving slaps these days! Thank you for letting me know and please know that you are not alone in your grief...many of us are here to lift you up. 💔

  10. A fitting tribute, my friend. She would have loved it and probably asked why you didn't high light this or that. She was a stickler for perfection as I know first hand when she asked me to fix her blog when it was compromised a year ago. She was ever so happy when she got it back. I'm going to miss that cantankerous ol' bitch. She was a lot of fun, fuck!

  17. I had to rush through these fast as today I just happen to be in the library--and have to be careful what pops up on the screen--rather than at my computer at home. Sorry for the loss of your blogging friend.

  22. Hello Debra, These days there are so few "good ones" out there that we can't afford to lose any. You have my sympathy for the loss of your friend, and I sense the general regret among most of the comments that we never got to know this amazing woman before it was too late.
