For this week's Friday Face OFF link party
of art featuring faces, hosted by Nicole of
DVArtist, Art, Food, Gardening blog . . .
Another offering from the
"Portraits in Coloured Pencils" class
that I'm taking right now.
This little Tibetan girl is done
in light umber and dark umber
on fawn paper.
I never seem to learn NOT to use
dark umber as a skin tone but,
oh well, once again it seemed
like a good idea at the time.
To my mind, this girl is quite reminiscent
of the famous Les Miz logo featuring
the little French waif, Cosette --
I think it's the solemn look
and that hair blowing in the wind.

...a little sweetie!
ReplyDeleteYou painted a real gorgeous portrait ๐
ReplyDeleteShe has expression which tells much, although I don't know what...
Happy weekend ๐
Very nice!
ReplyDeleteThe expression and the windswept hair make her very dynamic, even though sheโs obviously stillโฆ
XOXO
Amazing, Debra. Great work!
ReplyDeleteWonderful portrait.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was Cosette!
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with the dark unbre???
ReplyDeleteLooks really good to me.
It IS reminiscent of Les Mis!
@ whkattk -- Dark umber is great for recessed shadows, but on a face it just looks like dirt or a bruise.
Delete๐ Oh my! This is great work! Your art rocks and I'm a groupie! ๐ค
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I like the hair and that sweet bow.
ReplyDeleteVery real,Captivating and beautiful painting dear Debra ๐ฅน๐๐ฅฐ
ReplyDeleteYour bold and powerful art amazes me always wow๐๐ค
Hats off to you my really wonderfully talented friend ๐๐ฅฐ
Beautiful but sad! Amazing how you can get the eyes to look so Oriental!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fab!
ReplyDeleteShe is so precious I just want to give her a hug. Amazing work.
ReplyDeleteThe dark umber looks fine to me.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is really good.
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful portrait. Very evocative, really shows the soul of the small girl. Such a talent you have!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorites that you've shared. i love it.
ReplyDeleteHi Debra, She is just adorable, and how perfect that you posted her today, which is Children's Day in Taiwan (an official holiday). I'm not sure quite how that is celebrated, but I could not discover where they are giving them away.
ReplyDelete--Jim
@ Parnassus (Jim) -- Once again you have educated me. Happy Children's Day to all the children of Taiwan, Tibet, and the World.
DeleteWhat a beauty!
ReplyDeleteDid you paint that?
ReplyDeleteShe seems to have an ambivalent expression, and engaging.
Nice one.
@ Liam Ryan -- It's done in coloured pencils, not painted. But expert coloured pencil artists can produce artworks that look just like a painting or a photograph. I don't know if I'll ever reach that stage, LOL.
Deletesoulful and doleful
ReplyDeleteTibetan Girl is awesome ~ so expressive ~ well done!
ReplyDeleteWishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

Debra, are you flippen kidding me? This piece needs to be in a gallery. This is stunning. Those eyes are so captivating. You also know I am going to tell you how fabulous the hair is. Your talent is breathtaking. Thank you for sharing with FFO and have a nice weekend.
ReplyDelete@ DVArtist -- Thanks, Nicole, I AM very pleased with her hair, I must confess!
DeleteI don't remember dark umber from my crayon days but I do remember burnt umber.
ReplyDeleteReally fantastic painting Debra,
ReplyDeletefor Nicole's party!
It seems that you have a talent that you have started to cultivate!! Keep on painting!!!
Wow, great, great work! Wonderful, such a well done beauty.
ReplyDeleteYou do beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteWonderful work. Yes it immediately made me think of Cosette. Les Miserables is one of my favorite musicals.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! She is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThis is really lovely. I don't see a problem with the raw umber/face, though I know we are always our own worst critics! It works here. And yes, it does remind me a little of Cosette.
ReplyDeleteShe looks almost happy. I like you have drawn the hair.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
That is a lovely portrait.
ReplyDeleteYes! There is a Cosette in her! it's the mouth... Your shading is excellent. Well done. (And thanks for dropping by my blog!)
ReplyDeleteohmygosh! Debra! she is gorgeous!! you are so talented! ~*~
ReplyDeleteI love the Tibetan girl!! We meet a lot of Tibetan refugees in India, and the features are very relatable!
ReplyDeleteWell Done on the portrait! really good
ReplyDeleteI think you did a beautiful job; she's lovely and her expression speaks volumes!
