OMG absolutely on point with this!!! It was the first thing I noticed as soon as Oscar Ordonez came back for season two: he's a dead ringer for Raul Julia. Those eyes!!!! And I love this version of the Addams Family, even though Julia and Houston are ICONIC.
🥰😍 I adore Raul Julia and I miss him! He's been gone so long and we are all lesser for not having the roles he could have made better! I've thought of him a lot this week as a musical 😳 version of "Kiss of the Spider Woman" is in theaters! Some brilliant performances in a character study of two men (Raul Julia & William Hurt), in a horrific political prison, just shouldn't be turned into flashy Hollywood glitz! IMHO. 😠
Hi Debra, I have most of the original cartoons, and the complete TV series with John Astin and Carolyn Jones, but have not explored much further than that. However, I think that it is healthy and a good sign that each generation has formed their own version of these characters. --Jim
I was always drawn to Morticia. Sensual, macabre, and off-beat. And probably smelled absolutely heady. Oh, to be Gomez. Astin's Gomez was delightfully zany. Julia's Gomez was suave, but peculiar. Guzman's was probably creepy in keeping with the original theme. It's going take more episodes for me to become a devotee.
I've loved these characters since I was first introduced, all the iterations. I always felt proud that weirdos could be the main characters. Yet, I hadn't thought about them as relationship models. It's a great thought experiment. Thank you for a new perspective on these enduring characters.
I like the new Gomez - and all of them really. Two more episodes to go. Did I mention that I have a bunch of Wednesday minis? So fun to shoot.
True story, I was out with a friend and we were talking about normal and Kris said, "what's normal to the spider is chaos to the fly."
And I'm like, where did I hear that did you make that up? She tells me she heard it from somewhere and later, I find out, Morticia Addams said it, "Normal is an illusion. What's normal to the spider is chaos to the fly."
I was like, for shame. How did I not remember that and Tim said I should have one of my Wednesday mini's taken away for not remembering and I said, "NEVEEHHAR!"
And that's my two cents for the morning. Hope you're having a groovy week, Debra.
...you sure are a fan!
ReplyDeleteI'd be a Gomez over a Ken any day.
ReplyDeleteBut, shallow me, as a Gomez, could I date a Ken?
Love the original family. No others are quite as good in my book.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know there was a new series! But Luis Guzmán is perfect to play the part! He has a certain look about him that fits perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThen again, a person doesn't have to be a perfect human specimen to be a devoted lover.
You're correcting your observation about Luis. I think I read they wanted the main characters to look as much like the cartoon as they could.
ReplyDeleteFun characters - unknown to me.
ReplyDeleteI'm wishing you a good upcountry weekend 👏🍁😘
A reminder that it is fun to be the weird neighbors.
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy "Wednesday" on Netflix ... looking forward to the new season!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pair!
ReplyDeleteTruth! Besides, I love Luis Guzmán.
ReplyDeleteHow I love Morticia and Gomez. That last bit about Gomez's appearance is absolutely true though.
ReplyDeleteUsed to watch the TV series, LOVED that film, but not a fan of the Wednesday series for some reason.
ReplyDeleteI have my own Morticia at home, I'm definitely her Gomez - if he had a long greying beard and Viking delusions 😂
ReplyDeleteOMG absolutely on point with this!!!

ReplyDeleteGosh, he does look like the original cartoon.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't be Halloween without them!
ReplyDeleteRelationship GOALS! (Except for the heterosexuality, of course)
ReplyDeleteOle Shakespeare nailed it: Love looks not with the eyes but with the heart!

The thing about the attractiveness of Gomez sounds like something an incel would say.
ReplyDeleteI think Morticia and Gomez will always be around this time of year.
ReplyDeleteI am a Wednesday series fan
ReplyDeleteLove the one with Morticia clipping the rose! 😮
ReplyDeleteLoved the original series, it was great.
ReplyDeleteI must confess that I have never watched "The Addams Family" and the available evidence suggests that I have not missed anything of note.

I loved this old TV show, Debra! Thanks so much for showcasing it! Love this post and photos!

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun bit a romance - I thought the new season of Wednesday was fabulous.
ReplyDeleteAddam's Family Values - absolutely the BEST movie ever! Always been a fan of the TV show, the big screen versions, and of course, "Wednesday"!
ReplyDeleteLove these.
ReplyDeleteSO glad you are back!!!! I MISSED you!

Despite being a poet I love beautiful things I enjoyed the show for years with and without my kids 🤗 they were attractive in a way honestly
ReplyDeleteSomehow over the years, I missed out on the Addams Family. 😭. Fun post, Debra!
