For my meal, I ordered "rabbit with two mustards sauce." As you can see, it came with salad and fries. There were four little pieces of rabbit under a delicious sauce. And yes, it is true what they say -- rabbit tastes just like chicken. However, it is a bit stringier than chicken in texture.
My Rare One was on a fish kick at the time and ordered salmon instead. It too was delicious. But she also sampled my rabbit.
Oh, I enjoyed this so much! But I know that this nice feed of rabbit may have to hold me for years until I'm able to find rabbit on a restaurant menu again.

ReplyDelete@Spooky Whisk -- I thought it was a little odd too. I was expecting rice or roast/mashed potatoes. Fries seemed a little "casual." But they went well enough with it!

ReplyDeleteOh yes, we definitely need to go to Quebec City. That looks like our kind of restaurant. Looks like a tasty meal. Maybe the fries are out of place, but they sure look delicious.
ReplyDeleteIt looks good...but I just couldn't do it! I would also have ordered the salmon, which I love! I am surprised by the fries. Rice seems like a good fit; roasted veggies even better.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting. Cool beans that it worked. I don't often get fried potatoes out as they are too heavy and oil-filled. But I do enjoy baking them at home. Nummy stuff.

Someone mistakenly put that rabbit next to its old food source. I'll pass on the salad, but that rabbit and fries looks pretty tasty.

ReplyDeleteHad it when I was a kid. Either my young uncles or my brother would hunt and bring them home. Mother or Grandmother would fry them like southern fried chicken, serve them with mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and a big garden salad.
Can you tell it's dinnertime for me?
I'm off to make chili dogs and serve them with corn chips.
Friday nights are "trash nights" in our house. Trash means fast food type stuff or cold cuts.
You meals look delicious. I would of gone for the salmon as well. YUM! The restaurant just look so cozy and quaint.

ReplyDeleteYum?! I had rabbit once years ago....my aunt made a stew of it. I didn't care for it....thought it tasted 'woodsy' or something like that.

ReplyDeleteYou made me want to go and eat there again. This October, maybe. It is a lovely eating place, and with a local beer (I believe the Lapin sauté serves many), the rabbit must be really yummy. I do eat salmon or fish when I go out more than meat, but rabbit being a much rarer delicacy on the menu, I would probably choose this, especially at the Lapin. Most of the time I have rabbit or hare, it is in a tourtière, so the taste gets lost.
ReplyDeleteOh, and the sister of my godson LOVES rabbit, so she finds it very cruel to eat it. And my godson loves deers and mooses, he even said when I last saw him that people who kill them are really nasty. So now I feel guilty eating either, even though they are such delicious meats.
Love rustic restaurants! Although I am hard pressed to eat meat of any kind at any time, the dinner looked good!
ReplyDeleteI was a survival instructor for the US Navy for a number of years. We would teach our students to snare, and clean rabbits; then they would experiment cooking them over a camp fire. I had rabbit weekly - rare or burnt...You are right, it is like dark meat of chicken - the way chicken use to be before hormones and force feeding made them oversize and fatty.

ReplyDeleteRight now, this post reminds me of the old Looney Tune cartoons where Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck would try to insult each other by reading duck and rabbit receipes.
This looks so cozy inside. I have never eaten rabbit but now that I have been vegetarian for almost 20 years now I don't see it happening in the future. The sauces look delicious!
