Keep Calm and Carry On

Hasn't this meme had its 15 minutes already? How many silly variations of it can there be?

And yet -- the original phrase had great meaning and a really interesting history. Watch this fascinating little video to find out!

Oh, okay then. The phrase can stay.

  6. The origins of the phrase are pretty cool, but most people have no clue about it. It's just another popular meme for them.

  8. I love that video! I had no idea it was a war time slogan. I actually had no idea it was a meme either, I guess, I just knew I was seeing it everywhere. Thanks for sharing this!

  9. The original will always be my favourite, and holds the most meaning. It's on the front of my blogging ideas notebook that comes with me wherever I go. :)

  10. It's like so many things in life. I was schooled to learn life things, historical things, practical things. I have always been interested in the beginnings, origins, roots of things. Most folks don't shive a get.
I'm gonna sound old but who cares, my daughter never cared much for research and so she is surprised by basic things as an adult. My grands are learning about 40% of what my daughter learned. The world is becoming more uninformed about basics and more informed about Kim K and her big butt, or Justin B and his randy scuzzy self, but history, geography, traditions and the meaning of life is well.....keep calm and be dumb. And yes, I did say that, Oma Linda

  11. I love the video. I knew the original quote had a connection to the war effort but I wasn't familiar with Barter Books. What a lovely story. While the phrase may be over commercialized the 3 original posters are actually quite wonderful.

  22. A colleague gave me one for over my desk that says:

    Keep Calm
    and
    Sing Show Tunes

She knows me real well - and she and I often do when the going really gets tough. We do a great "Hey Big Spender".
