Fingerless Gloves

Today, a set of related Q & A from my "Ask Me Anything" post --

Pink or purple? (from Mark at The Rambling Person)
See above photo.

Did you knit the purple gloves yourself? (from Linda)
Alas, no. I am the World's Worst Knitter. If you want to read about my one and only disastrous knitting project, click here.

What is the question you're dreading being asked? (from Julia at Life, yoga and other adventures)
This next one:

Are those your hands? (from Psychelin at Life . . . Here and There or Somewhere Else)
Ever since I started blogging in September 2008, I have used the above photo as my profile icon. Although everything on my blog is (more or less) true, I do blog anonymously. So I needed a photo that did not reveal my identity.

But now it's True Confessions time . . . yes, I confess . . . I confess . . . those are not even my hands, much less my gloves. I simply chose the photo off the internet because I liked the purple Celtic cable-stitch fingerless gloves.

Wanna see a photo of my real hands wearing a pair of green Celtic cable-stitch fingerless gloves?

See? I don't really have long and slender (if somewhat bluish) fingers. No, I have stubby chubbies and a broad palm. But baby, I can still work magic with them! * wink *

FYI, these beautiful gloves were handcrafted by Sarah Sullivan, who blogs at Cottage Garden Studios and whose Etsy shop is found here.

  1. Ah, the green gloves are cute, and your hands are nice too :-). Thanks for your answer!

  2. WHAT!?! Those weren't your hands all of this time!?! I suppose not everyone can be so bold as to use a self-portrait of themselves as their avatar, like me.

  3. Lol true confessions!

  4. Those are some pretty badass gloves. Both pairs. I think I prefer the first pair though because I like longer gloves. I just can't resist long fingerless gloves. It makes me sad that the one pair I had that I really loved are gone forever. I sent them to a friend as a present and they were lost in the mail, never to be seen again. I haven't really had enough spare money to buy another pair.

  6. Ooooh...confessions! I love it. Why not just use the photo that depicts your real hands? I think it's great.

  10. Oh how I am enjoying these post. I think its a good way to get to know the blogger more. I know when I did it, the feedback was great, because readers have questions, and you may mean to post some snippets of yourself but never get around to it. I too have always wondered about the gloves!!!! Your are lovely too!!

  11. Ha! Anonymous no more! I identified you by your hands!

    ...Not really.

The real hands are better. Also, if both hands are pressed flat, how did you take that picture? With your teeth? Because that's impressive in itself.

  12. You have beautiful hands! Mine look like they are attached to a 9 yr old boy who was recently digging in the dirt. I think you should change your picture to your own hands, but that's just my nosey opinion. LOVE those gloves. I'll be checking out that Etsy shop. I can't knit either, the bit o' blanket I tried to make looked like cats fought for their lives on it.

  15. Hahaha love the answer! I hit the right button to confession :)))

I was laughing at "A Beer for the Shower's" comment. I actually wanted to ask too how did you take the picture, but since we were limited to one, I didn't dare hehehe

Thanks, this is really fun. Both of your hands, real and not are fine :)

  19. I like both gloves (and hands)! Not in a weird way, just a normal liking of hands kinda way.

  20. I never really thought about that picture that much. Now I'll never unsee that.

  21. You know, I've never thought about it. Even when I sent your pressie of the long black Halloween gloves with gold nails/claws...
It's simply you! Those purple-gloved hands say: She Who Seeks.

Like I tried a few times to ditch the pigtail wonder from Facebook's FarmVille, everyone likes her. She's cute, sweet, (and not near as bitching as I wished!)

  22. If the gloves don't fit, you must acquit. Best line from that trial. No need for open finger gloves - another benefit of not having a smartphone.

  23. I like you hands and gloves better.

  26. Don't be so hard on yourself. Your hands are lovely and so are the gloves. I love mine, my Mother made me, because I am a terrible at sewing, knitting and crocheting....

they were "witty" and often quite funny... Brought a "smile" to our face more than a few times ... Thanks for often helping to lift our spirits or just something to smile about... and we really enjoy your "History" posts, dear Lady Debra..Thanks....

  28. May I use the photo of the purple gloves for a post on my blog? It will not be used in a bad way.

    Love,

  29. I have a pair of Sarah's fingerless gloves too! I wear them at the office almost year-round - my fingers get cold when I'm typing all day. They are one of my most favourite things.

  30. Those gloves are seriously cute!

  31. I love your real hands and your real fingerless gloves (the buttons are lovely).

  32. Your real hands look warm, Debra! Unlike the ones in the purple gloves. I remember very well when Canada got its new flag. And I remember how sad my mother was because she had served under the Red Ensign in the Canadian Air Force during the latter part of WWII. I'm used to it now, and it does make my heart sign when I see it flying. Have a good one!
