My oh my, I do lurves me a woman in a black catsuit! And it's all the fault of Mrs. Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) in that old 1960s British show The Avengers, which I watched on TV as an impressionable child!
And all those purr-fect Catwomen -- Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt . . .
, , , Anne Hathaway and Michelle Pfeiffer!
And who can forget the black leather catsuit worn by Annie Lennox in the Eurythmics' Missionary Man video!
And I can't get enough of the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) in the Marvel MCU!
So I, for one, think Serena Williams looked fantastic at the French Open and should not have had her athletic catsuit banned! It's long past time for professional tennis to end its sexist double standard that women players can only wear those stupid little skirts when playing. Female players should have the same freedom as male players to wear what they deem best for their game.
I agree. I want one of those suits! And it’s absurd that male tennis players can sit on the side with their shirts off whole women can’t even strip down to a sports bra that covers more than a bikini top!
ReplyDeleteI agree that Serena should get to wear what she wants. If she wants to compete wearing a full mascot costume, go for it. She has proven herself as the most dominant force in her sport of all time, possibly the best athlete ever, and they need to start following her lead. That, and they need to foster and inspire a whole new generation of catsuit fetishists (no judgement).
ReplyDeleteI thought emma peel was SO beautiful back then (and I'mma not into girls). clever, witty, athletic, fashionable.
ReplyDeleteI love those suits, too. They're pretty sexy.
ReplyDeleteHear, frickin, hear
ReplyDeleteTotally agree! The double standard about the shirts too is a bit much. Who runs that anyway, old white men?
ReplyDeleteMichele pfeiffer was my so favorite and i less liked her in such action movies
ReplyDeletei watched her "deep end of ocean" many times!
fun post dear Debra! and avengers infinity war has occupied my bigger t.v on weekends as kids loved it
serena williams looks awesome in that suit! i loved emma peel!
ReplyDeleteSomebody has to say it, how do they pee?
ReplyDeleteAh, had me an orange jumpsuit (not prison garb) so I guess I was an orange cat. I love those bullets on Scarlet's wrists, I needed some wrist weights that looked like that when I used to run.......no one would have messed with me then. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteAmen to that! I think that Serena Suit would make every body look good.
ReplyDeleteI lurved Mrs.Peel.
ReplyDeleteAs for Serena, what difference does it make what she wears? Does the outfit give her an unfair advantage? No;stop the asshattery!
I saw her in that suit on my old black and white TV. I remember the moment vividly.
ReplyDeleteI'd like one of those suits. Can you buy them off the rack?
ReplyDeleteI am reminded what happened to Ross from Friends when he wore leather pants. One of the funniest episodes ever. But yes, there is something hella sexy about leather.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I recently learned that the "avengers" live off a diet of raw oats and boiled chicken. That's how they fit into that black leather and make it look good. No thank you!
ReplyDeleteNo one moves like Diana Rigg in a cat suit!
ReplyDeleteJP
Catsuits are very sexy. I wonder when things will start changing when it comes to women's tennis apparel. What really appalled me was when everyone got all bent out of shape when Alize Cornet changed her shirt around because it was backwards, during a game at the U.S. Open. People thought it was lewd and tacky. She was wearing a sports bra, so what! Everyone needs to change their thought processes when it comes to women's tennis clothing. It really pisses me off that everyone is so prissy and old-fashioned.
ReplyDeleteTim was into Emma back in the day.
ReplyDeleteHathaway looks like a kiddo at a Halloween party.
Black Widow, I’d like to see her in her OWN movie, please.
Fun post, Debra.
It's a lovely fetish, my dear! And, thank you for the photographic reckoning of your fetish; I enjoyed it very much!
ReplyDeleteI have too much to say about the double standard issue you raise at the end of your post. So, I'll keep it to: I agree.
For me it will always and forever be, Julie Newmar. ;)
ReplyDeleteWait, how'd you do that? Ya got me lusting for a woman in a nice tight black suit.
ReplyDeleteI saw Annie Lennox recently and she still has that same elfin face, and looks really good.
ReplyDeleteSocial media allows us to rant about any minor trivia scrolling through our feeds.
ReplyDeleteOh I noticed the gun became much bigger for the Black Widow vs. the Avengers.
Mrs. Peel rocked! I loved that show! And I adored Michelle Pfeiffer as catwoman. Miaow! As for the bozos who are trying to dictate what Serena wears...really? I say make the men wear those little skirts and let's see what happens.
ReplyDeleteI thought she rocked that tennis catsuit. I hope she finds one in another color.
ReplyDeleteElsie
admittedly both Anne and Michelle were horrible, and Serena is a disrespectful, vain and tasteless brat. I'm glad they banned that ugly catsuit, but they should have banned the tutu as well. She is making a mockery out of decent sport. But you did forget the prettiest of them all: Rachel Weisz https://imgur.com/gallery/YnLBD
ReplyDelete@ DEZMOND -- I liked Serena's tutu as well, which was a wonderful comment on the stupid apparel code for women in professional tennis. Now, what movie did Rachel Weisz wear that catsuit in? It's not really her style to even wear something like that.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could look good in a catsuit. Alas, it would not be a good look for me. Serena Williams should be able to wear whatever she wants, but she also has health reasons for wearing the catsuit--it's to prevent blood clots, with which she had a problem when giving birth to her daughter.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I watched The Avengers all the time.
ReplyDelete@ Janie Junebug -- Then it's even more reprehensible that the French Open banned it. Thanks, I did not know that info.
ReplyDeleteNot a big fan of comic book movies OR Scarlett J, but there are a couple of those recent marvel movies where I've been stunned by her appearance in that outfit.
ReplyDeleteIt takes a certain type of person to pull off that look.
All those women look amazing in those black catsuits!!
ReplyDeleteSerena could whip all comers in a prom dress and heels, but she should get to wear whatever the hell she wants.
ReplyDeleteAnd ladies in catsuits? Yes please!
Julie Newmar was extremely sexy as Catwoman. On a sexy scale, wasn't very fond of Pfeiffer's or Berry's incarnation of Catwoman
ReplyDeleteI thought the crap that Serena got about wearing a catsuit was moronically obtuse. As she stated earlier, she was wearing for a serious medical malady, which of course those moronically obtuse people couldn't wrap their very tiny little atrophied brains around.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, the tutu was absolutely priceless.
I really don't understand why the catsuit was banned for Serena - I don't get it.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, Debra! These sexist double standards have to go!
ReplyDeleteYou have such fun posts....
ReplyDeleteI, being of a certain age, think ALL the cat suits look like something to wear to a Halloween party. But they did make a great blog post.
I am a fan as well...and the boots!!! They are the cats meow ;)
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me? they still have to wear skirts? Wow. And Scarlet Johanson is gorgeous. I remember her in Lost in Translation and she was so effortlessly sensuous.
ReplyDeleteSerena is an athletic superb athlete. She should have the freedom to wear such. It does not reveal any body parts.
ReplyDeleteFemale golfers--why should they have to wear those ridiculous skirts?
Mrs. Peel, how we loved that show.
Diana Rigg as Emma Peel was my father's first ever childhood crush.
ReplyDeleteLove "Missionary Man" - one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteLovely visual post Debra!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have to worry about Serena after the French open debacle, for the US OpPen she showed off the off-white tutu and one-arm Nike bodysuit which she paired with compression fishnets and bedazzled sneakers.
Peggy xxxx
Because I dress for the bathroom, I don't see myself sporting a catsuit anytime soon. Yes, that is my only reason. I agree that Serena should be able to wear whatever she wants.
ReplyDeleteJulie Newmar was my favorite Catwoman. I always hoped she'd get together with Bruce Wayne/Batman on the TV show. It just wasn't the same with Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer in the movie.
