Oscar Kicked My Ass!

Well, it's a good thing I didn't have any MONEY riding on the Oscars because my predictions SUCKED! Of the ten categories for which I made predictions in my last post, only four (40%) proved to be accurate:

Best Costume Design:
Ruth E. Carter for Black Panther

Best Original Song:
Lady Gaga et al for "Shallow" from A Star is Born.

Best Adapted Screenplay:
Charlie Wachtel, Spike Lee et al for BlacKkKlansman

Best Supporting Actress:
Regina King for If Beale Street Could Talk

My other six predictions (60%) were horribly wrong!

Best Original Screenplay:
I predicted Adam McKay for Vice, but the winner was Nick Vallelonga et al for Green Book.

Best Actress:
Not Glenn Close for The Wife, but Olivia Colman for The Favourite.

Best Actor:
Sorry, Willem Dafoe for At Eternity's Gate, it was Rami Malek for Bohemian Rhapsody.

Best Supporting Actor:
Get lost, Sam Elliott for A Star is Born, the Academy picked Mahershala Ali for Green Book.

Best Picture:
Green Book again! Too bad, so sad, Bohemian Rhapsody.

Best Director:
I was shocked, SHOCKED, that it was not Spike Lee for BlacKkKlansman. Alfonso Cuarón of Roma took the coveted prize.

Oh well, c'est la vie. Some of the world's greatest NEVER win an Oscar.

  1. Green Book is the Driving Miss Daisy of 2019.
    The Gaga/Cooper performance was fire.
Billy Porter gave me life on the Red Carpet.
Julia Roberts and Paul Rudd do not age.
Now I have to go see The Favourite.

  2. Olivia won over Glenn??? Da hell? Olivia is a terrible actress, no comedy in her whatsoever and yet people seem to think she's funny.
I hate to tell you I told you so about Rami, but I told you so :PPP
I'm ever so glad that crap Panther did not win best movie, that would have been a tragic suicide for the Oscars.

  3. As they say "you can't win them all!"

  5. Glenn Close not winning was a surprise for many!

  6. As a person that never goes to movie, I am clueless about who was even up for awards. I never watch the show. Sorry your predictions weren't closer.

  7. I haven't watched the Oscars in years. I did see a photo of the tuxedo dress.

  8. I have given up watching the Oscars. I just want to know what the stars wore on the red carpet. I loved Hellen Mirren's orange and pink gown. So pretty. Linda Cardellini looked like she was wearing her bedroom negligee robe and forgot to dress so she made the best of it. What the fuck was Maya Rudolph wearing? It looked like curtains from a child's bedroom.

  9. billy porter should have won something...that dress/tux was fantastic!

  10. I give you an A for effort! Maybe next year you will do better!

  11. I'd trust you more to choose the most deserving. It's as if they do a blindfolded draw a winner out of a bag of names. I don't care to watch them anymore.

A good, safe week to you.

  12. Hey, you still guessed 40% more correctly than I did or could have!

  13. Spike should'a won for BlacKkKlansman. That was a great movie.

  14. Just because you didn't pick the same as the judges, doesn't mean you weren't right. Perhaps you should post awards to your pick - the Deboscars.

  15. Seems like they remake A Star is Born about every five years now. Who are the people of the Academy, really?

  16. Cate Blanchett was not nominated this year, so I had little interest in the Oscars.

  17. I think Green Book took most by surprise

  18. C'est la vie, for sure! I only saw "A Star is Born." I may hunt up a few of the others on cable. Have a great week, and thanks for your fearless predictions.

  19. Always going gaga for Gaga … smiles … Love, cat.

  20. Some of the world's greatest NEVER win an Oscar.

Story of my life. I am CRIMINALLY unregonized for my genius. They picked the wrong 'feel good' movie starting a black man. But I was happy for Malek but Glen Close is in treatment. She wanted it soooo bad.

  21. Like I wrote in my comment on your last oscar post - Star is Born and Green Book were great movies.

  22. Even I was a tad surprised by some of the nominations, and I'm not half (heck, a sixth) as adept at seeing these things as you are.

  23. It's hard to know!!! You didn't do too bad! LOL!
