"Iambic Pentameter Is My Bitch"

Time once again to raise the tone of this blog, courtesy of the Bard of Avon --

Thanks to Willym of Will He or Won't He, on whose blog I found this video about six months ago.

But more recently, major kudos are due to Will who just scored 7/7 on the very difficult Folger Shakespeare Library's Ultimate Shakespeare Trivia Quiz.

I myself scored a paltry 2/7. But am I bitter?

  6. Hello Debra, This mug reminds me of Robert Benchley's essay 'Shakespeare Explained', a fake "student edition" of Pericles with every word footnoted, including "the" and "and" ("a favorite conjunction of Shakespeare's..."), with additional examples of these words quoted from other plays. It's worth reading just for the illustrations by Gluyas Williams ("Might be one of the hautboys bearing a box of trognies for the actors to suck.").

  10. Upstart Crow...I LOVE it, But alas, even with that under my belt and a lifetime of his plays...I scored...2 out of 7. It ain't for the faint of heart, I'm telling you.

  11. I am sure my score would be embarrassing if I took the quiz! Many year ago I visited Stratford Upon Avon, but have not retained anything I learned. haha

  12. But what does Marlow think of this?

  13. That is funny! And, I love the cup. I'm sending the quiz to my buddy Lisa, a retired drama teacher. I'm sure she'll beat my score of 3/7.
    Cheers!

  14. Hilarious video, friend D. I scored 1/7 … however … since I am blessed with a photographic memory, I scored 7/7 upon retrying … smiles. Love, cat.

  15. All things Shakespeare are my favorite. I took the test and got 2 wrong. The movie and Falstaff. I spelled Falstaff with one f. I love Upstart Crow.

  16. You scored a 2! Now I'm tempted to take it to see if I can even manage a 1!

  17. Apparently Tupac was into Shakespeare. I can't even spell his name.

  18. One of seven here, and it had the nerve to ask if it was tougher than I expected.

  22. Hoisted by my own petard! I picked the right answers six out of seven times, then second guessed myself into a 2/7. Dang.

  29. Four. To be fair to myself, although I majored in English and took a Shakespeare class, we didn't read all of the plays. I think I'm okay with four. I'm a little concerned it will keep me awake for a night or two, but four is better than nuttin'.

    Love,
    Janie

  36. LOL, I enjoy Shakespeare, but I'm no trivia whiz on his works. I might have one friend who would do well on that quiz, but she does community theater involving Shakespeare regularly.
