The main thing I learned in July's "Sketching in Pen and Ink and Watercolour" course is that I really need to take a beginners course in watercolours! I was not happy with most of my efforts in this class, but here are the ones I don't mind posting, LOL!
We painted the watercolour wash and spatter background in this first exercise before we knew what picture we'd be drawing in ink over top of it. If I'd known, I would not have chosen these particular colours for my wash! Oh well, just pretend this landscape scene is from an alien planet --
I like these little tomatoes on the vine but wish I'd drawn them bigger on the page.
I'm happy with this fruit still life too. The fruit was supplied by my fridge.
These veggies came out of My Rare One's garden. When I was done, I chopped up the onion and put it on a pizza. Delicious!
Because I'm busy and running around traveling in August and September, I won't be taking another art course until October or so. But I may do some art on my own at home.

I like them all; the fruits and veggies look good enough to eat!
ReplyDeleteYou have exceptional talent!p
ReplyDeleteYou are very good, much better than I was. Awesome paintings. Don't sell yourself short.
ReplyDeleteyou amaze me! did you know you had this talent before you took the courses?
ReplyDelete@ jaz@octoberfarm -- Thanks so much, Joyce. Artistic talent runs in my father's side of the family so I knew I had some ability, just no training.
ReplyDeleteI love them all. Now I wanna make a salad.
ReplyDeleteI love what you did, Debra. And being able to eat the subject matter is a bonus! Lol.
ReplyDeleteSomething about that gnarly tree stump I like...maybe because I'm gnarly too.
ReplyDeleteI like the fruit still life - especially the white highlights on the oranges.
ReplyDeleteWith the vast experience I have from years of judging art, I will give you my honest, expert opinion of your pieces, now please pay attention everyone.
ReplyDeleteSteve like pretty pretty pictures! :D
I absolutely love those tomatoes - and they are the perfect size on the page, IMHO. You definitely have talent, my dear. As far as watercolor goes, it was always my bugaboo - as my painting instructor told me (often), I had a very heavy hand.
ReplyDeleteI like all those pictures, even the alien planet. So what, were they assigning you what to draw only after you splashed down the watercolors? That hardly seems fair.
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I don't generally care for watercolor paintings but I like the dark fantasy feel of this one. Now about that onion, next time do a before and after with the pizza :)
ReplyDeleteI like the bold color on the little veggie studies.
ReplyDeleteThose are all lovely!
ReplyDeleteGheezuzkriztzuperztar, friend D … I think I'm in love … with your first picture!!! Instantly, by free thought association Thor's Hammer comes to mind … Much love, cat.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to count on my fridge for subject matter, it would be a blank canvas for sure...nice still life..
ReplyDeleteExcellent work. I particularly enjoy how you've rendered the shadows.
ReplyDeleteI love these. You are really very good.
ReplyDeleteVery impressive and great to get double use from the veggies.
ReplyDeleteHello Debra, I like them all. The yellow and pink watercolor looks exactly like certain book or magazine illustrations from the 1950's.

Hi Debra....I'm so very glad you are exploring your artistic side. You are QUITE GOOD with those little sketches. Please keep it up....it brings so much joy to one's life.
ReplyDeleteJo
Those little tomatoes would have been perfect on the pizza, too.
ReplyDeleteYou're really good at this, aren't you!
I like still lives and paintings of harvest.
ReplyDeleteyou did a nice job.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
I'm happy for you that you found these drawing classes. You are doing great - my veggies would be unrecognizable. Since I've never had any drawing skill, I've always appreciated people who were able to.
ReplyDeleteNow I need a snack. I'm going to try biting into a raw onion.
ReplyDeleteCool art
ReplyDeleteThe first one is my favorite. I like the still lives, but that first one is frame 😎
ReplyDeleteAnd watercolor is not an easy technique, in my eyes. Of course I cannot paint to save my life, so there’s that.
XoXo
guess what i thought of it landscape from alien land with first sight of it :)
ReplyDeletewatercolors are not easy to handle as few times i tried when my eldest son did painting
but still i can see great job here ,the fruit and veggies are Cool :)
yes i agree tomatoes are bit small yet tempting because the shine you gave them has made them so Alive :)
i bet you are going to be a great painter if stay in practice dear Debra!
Debra, your sketches are beautiful. No need to feel bad about anything you are drawing. Keep it up and please share.
ReplyDeleteyou are getting so good at your painting....love all these.
ReplyDeletenow i must figure out how to do comment moderation as i am getting tons of spam comments and it makes me sooo mad!!
Very nice, Debra.
ReplyDeleteI've dabbled in watercolor and was impressed by how difficult it is! You did great with the shadows, fruits and veggies.
Your first one is nicely detailed too.
In sum, praise and don't condemn yourself!
Those are good. I'm impressed

Chopping up art for your pizza is extra creative.
ReplyDeleteCan you please come visit to help me embellish my stick figures?(lol) You are so wonderfully talented, and I love how you bring simple things that we use every day to life. Hugs, RO
ReplyDeleteI think they look great Debra! When I started watercolour, I wasn't happy either. In my case it's because I was trying to paint as though I was using acrylics. I didn't "get" the whole watercolour thing at all. When I just let go and started some abstracts, I felt better with the paintbrush. I think you have great talent, and I actually really like that ink/paint piece a lot!!
ReplyDeleteI love them all Deb! I really do!!! You are a natural talent!!!!!! Big Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic. Love those tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteI liked most the vegetables
ReplyDeleteThese look great! It'll be cool to see what you come up with on your own too.
ReplyDeleteI love your landscape! The "alien colors" don't bother me at all. I find them striking.
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented, I love your art.
