Humans are the worst of animals. I'm surprised you support Greta, though, kids should not be used for media purposes in that way. But being celebrities I guess her parents enjoy the media attention at any price.
Footprints on the sand...my blog logo. The trash is beyond disturbing. Our recycling center has shut down, partly beacuse of corona, partly because they can no longer find a market. I've been recycling for so long, I can't bear putting stuff in the regular trash.
Love that last one. Unfortunately, I think economic down turn will spell more bad news for the poor planet. It will be the excuse the right needs to rape and plunder what is left of our natural resources.
That Tweet ...and the plastic bag going after the fish. You know, if we'd all just clean up our own messes, we could fix a lot; then we can work on fixing the rest.
Hello Debra, These are all spot-on. So many of us get focused on micro-solutions, like soda straws, when we need also and especially to pay attention to the big picture. --Jim
@ DEZMOND -- I don't think anyone is "using" Greta. She is 17 years old, in law a "mature minor" capable of making adult decisions, and has a long, proven track record of environmental concern. Her parents are not "forcing" her to do anything nor personally "benefitting" from her activism.
Happy Earth Day Debra! Very good post! Very wise! Love the last sentence! I've been reading about how much "cleaner" our earth has become, since we've been staying at home! Very interesting! Big Hugs!
I've been thinking about this a lot - now that I am forced to have a lot of time to think! I clearly remember the first Earth Day (when I was a mere infant) and wonder what happened to all my friends and all those of my age that were so dedicated to caring for the planet. Let's hope enough of us rekindle the flame to make a real difference.
Homo sapiens is the only animal species that is entirely dispensable to all ecosystems on Planet Earth...Mother Nature has indeed put us all in the penalty box and we had better mend our ways because she ALWAYS gets the last word!
Virus from a pangolin to his friend: "Hey, Chauncey! Here's a nice new meatloaf that doesn't even know how to fight back! Come on down, the eats are great!"
Thanks, Debra, you have put together some good pieces! A pity there are so many lunatics who keep their heads in the sand. They go on abou5 jobs, without considering that there are no jobs on a dead planet. No doubt the buggy whip workers felt the same.
Our poor earth! I love the last one. Maybe the planet is trying to detox itself by getting rid of some humans and reducing carbon emissions. Earth got tired of dinosaurs, maybe it is getting tired of us now. We can all do more to help reduce our footprint.
This makes me sad, Debra. I well remember the first Earth Day. I could never imagine that 50 years later this is where we would be. In the late 1970s I took a hydrology class at Cal State Fullerton. I remember being in a discussion about hauling large icebergs from Antarctica to different parts of the world to solve water problems. We never imagined that Antarctic's ice would be melting like it is now. As part of the course I also participated in a months long citizens committee for feedback on what to do with waste disposal in the Los Angeles area. The cheapest alternative chosen ` which I did not support ~ was to construct a huge pipe underwater and dump it well offshore. Guess what was chosen. That beach photo makes me think of that. Maybe in another 50 years, we'll be much smarter. Thanks for giving us pause to think, my friend!
Googles tribute to bees is today.

Maybe the Covid - 19 situation will sober a few people up as to seriousness of climate change and situations that could threaten humanity as a whole.
ReplyDeleteHappy Earth Day, Debra!
ReplyDeletehope the virus gets the anti-science/anti-vaxx crowd. the fewer the idiots, the better the planet will be.

ReplyDeleteI know more than a few of those “climate change isn’t real”. There is no talking to them.
ReplyDeleteThis is all kind of heartbreaking.

I cannot understand the bottled water craze when we pay for perfectly good water to come out of our taps! Happy Earth Day.

Funny how that last one is exactly what I was thinking about a few days ago.
ReplyDeleteThe last one....nails it!

ReplyDeleteIt looks like COVID-19 is the best present the earth could have today.

ReplyDeleteHappy Earth Day.
I hope after lockdown we will not travel as much, commute as much and use cars as much. Don't think it will happen sadly.
ReplyDeleteYes, we certainly are told to figure it out.
ReplyDeleteAll very funny, especially liked the last one.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the last one. Amazing how much smog is gone from the skyline of so many cities right now.
ReplyDeleteThe beach one was like a punch in the gut. Ugh!
Stay healthy and safe,
Elsie
I think I got the message..Happy Earth Day//
ReplyDeleteI love the last one.
ReplyDeleteA breath of fresh air, and a reminder of how wonderful factual fresh air could be! THANK YOU.

Earth is my favorite place to live; I pray it gets better.
ReplyDeleteSpot on memes, Debra.
ReplyDeleteI kinda think God sent us all to our rooms to think about how we are destroying the earth he created.
ReplyDeleteGreta is pure love. I'm moved by her face and sentiment.
ReplyDeleteThanks for these reminders and truths.
Be well.
