New Series -- Stuff Around My Home

Since the coronavirus quarantine commenced, several blogging buddies have started posting about their home decor and favourite treasures. It's a great way to produce interesting posts since no one can get out and about to take photos of other things.

"What a good idea," I said to myself. "I could do that too!"

So here's the first post of my new series! Other posts will appear from time to time, in between my regular ramblings and usual meme posts.

But first, a disclaimer. Well, two disclaimers, actually --

(1) My photos were all taken on my iPhone and are not particularly accomplished. Be prepared for some blurriness and bad lighting.

(2) After having previously RAVED about my favourite gay interior designers on TV, Colin & Justin, I must confess that much, if not most, of my home decor would make The Boys positively SHRIEK in horror.

You will see the truth of that statement over the course of this series.

But oh well, I YAM WHAT I YAM.

Where to start? Hmmmm. I should really try to start off with a bang . . . .

How about my collection of Superhero LEGO Minifigures on top of my microwave? Oh yeah, together with two little windup toys of Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth. Admittedly, not superheroes but that's okay because I'm not a purist or anything.

Behold the full, magnificent display --

Here are Prince Charles, Odin, Thor, Loki and Wonder Woman --

And over here are Captain America, the Winter Soldier, Iron Man, Wolverine and Queen Elizabeth --

YES, I know what you're thinking -- this series can only go UP from here!

We'll see, my friends.

We'll see.

  1. Love these posts!
We should all have an ongoing series with these!

    Now, super heroes? Yes, please.
Adding The Queen and Prince Charles? Cherry on top.

BTW, Colin and Justin sound like a ton of fun.

    XOXO

  2. I, too, love this idea. And what a fascinating collection. Those will be worth a FORTUNE one day. I love these kinds of collections. We left behind so much of our fun silly stuff (not that your collection is silly) when we moved across the ocean. I do miss some of it now.

  3. We do love good old Charles, and Camilla too, who is my fave royal!

  4. oh how cute! it's interesting to see what other friends collect/find interesting /treasure.

and yeah, those guys would probably recoil in horror. but who cares, THEY will never be let loose in your house! if they came to my house, they would keel over from heart attacks!

  5. I love the lego figures! Mine are displayed all over the place.

  6. How dare you say that Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth are not superheroes!

  7. If you have to move all the figurines when opening the doors of the cabinet - That would drive me nuts. I'm sure the queen would not be flattered with her likeness, but she is cute.

  8. Dearest Delicious Debra - you are now my bestest friend forever! I have Barbie Dolls, Lady Death Action figures and Britney Spears dolls around the house, and if I had more room, there would be even more action figures and toys around. Don't get me started on my books. I could just stare at these fun pics for quite some time! Hugs, RO

  9. What a lovely collection. Colin and Justin would be shaming you for those. Your cabinets and microwave look so white and clean. And you said you never spring clean. Perhaps you don't have to because your house already sparkles.

  10. I didn't realise that you had Colin and Justin in Canada too, our two crazy Scottish design interiors.
Did you get your design idea for the top of your microwave from them.

  13. I love your Lego people. I can imagine they make you smile every time you walk into the kitchen!

  14. Oh, they are so cute!! I love that.

  15. Kudos for your bravery, Debra! If I posted pictures of my rooms, somebody would call Child Services on me, and my childs are middle aged men raising their families elsewhere! I'm pretty sure that people would be pleased to at last find the whereabouts of Amelia Earhart, Judge Crater and that group of fighter planes that went missing a while back.

  17. Very enjoyable post. Makes me feel good to know someone else collects and proudly display unique items!

  18. I think your display is magnificent!!!

  19. I too like the Lego people but wonder how they stay so steady on the ledge when you open/close the microwave. Also, it doesn't appear as though Lego did a good job with the Queen. No offense, but she looks a bit like Mrs. Potato Head.

  20. Ah the Queen, a voice of reason and reality.

  21. We have cabinets above our refrigerator. The stuff on top means we don't go in those cabinets much. I really don't even know what's in them.

  22. They are quite cool, I must say. And Prince Charles is better looking as a figure than in real life.

  23. Great collection. I take it you don't use those cupboards.
This is a nice idea too about showing your home decor.

  24. Maybe you can begin swapping out the short ones for Diana and Wils and Cathryn and the new short ones.

  25. Yams...yum! ;)

I like your royal-super hero collection. Quite a likeness the wind-up toy has to Charles, no? :D

  29. I love your superheroes! but how do you open the cupboard doors?

  30. LOL-OMG---So fun!!!! My two favorite decorators are Nate Berkus and his partner. I love watching those two guys together and the two sweet kids they had via a surrogate.
Can't wait to see more. xo Diana

  31. @ Liz Hinds -- I don't ever need to open those particular cupboard doors because they're just "for show." There's nothing behind them but ductwork -- no cupboard space at all.

  32. What fabulous figurines you have! Legos have really come a long way since childhood!

    ReplyDelete
  33. LOL! Poor Prince Charles! I always felt some sympathy for him because of his ears. I have the same kind. I have a little lego Wonder Woman on a keychain, that I put on the blackjack tables in Vegas for good luck when I'm playing. A friend gave it to me. She won't be making any appearances for a while. :( I'm adjusting to the probability I'll be stuck in the house for a long stretch. Have a good one, my friend!

  34. Is that your entire collection? Much tidier than mine, which are all over my book cases, both in the study and the lounge room! I used to collect unicorns and spaceships, back when I had the space. Characters from Lord Of The Rings. Even a few of those things they make for children at fast food places(I still have a MacDonald’s Susan from the Narnia films)

  35. @ Sue Bursztynski -- That's my entire LEGO minifig collection, yes. But I have some other small collections scattered around -- like a dozen larger superhero figures, a bunch of Maneki-Neko (Beckoning Cats), and (my single largest collection) about 75 statues of the Divine Feminine. What can I say?

  36. They make windup toys of the royal family? Where do I sign up?

  37. I squeeeed like a teen girl when I saw that picture. I am glad we are friends.

  38. wow
this sounds great fun dear Debra
i am not collector of particular stuff but mixed decoration pieces
i liked your superheros ,what a neat fine decor :)
    not funny at all lol

  39. This is an excellent idea. Also, my Jean Grey LEGO lady wants to know if your Wolverine is up for a date. She would get the information straight out of his mind, but... well, that would be rude.

  40. Oh the queen is wonderful wound-up. I guess she waves her hand. I have a few little toy figures but I just tell people they are for the grandkids. I do share but I wonder if sometimes I like the figures more than the grandkids.

  41. LOL! This is so cute Deb!!! Thanks for the smiles!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I was thinking of Colin and Justin seeing your collection! I couldn't stop laughing, on how they would have reacted! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Who knew Prince Charles was an Avenger?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Love your collection! I don't have any Lego minifigs but for some reason a Lego bicycle is on one of my bookshelves. I've got plenty of other figures (and loads of crazy crap!) scattered or clustered around the house.
This looks to be a fun series!

  45. My coworker is a Lego fiend. He had an impressive display in his cubical area and he has a whole working amusement park in his living room.

    ReplyDelete
  46. You open the doors and sweep them onto the floor or are they glued to the doors? Definitely adds class, donchathink?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Olivia and Abby are crazy about lego's..they watch the shows with them all the time..gg thinks they suck.hahah
