So blogging buddy Cal of Calvin's Canadian Cave of Cool challenged me to pick my 12 favourite Marvel characters from the 65 listed in a post featuring Marco Checchetto's artwork at The Dork Review blog. Man, it was hard to whittle them down to a mere 12, but here they are.
Steve 'n Bucky are, of course, my MOST favourite --
But I'm fond of these two idiots as well --
And Doctor Strange has grown on me over the course of a few movies --
My favourite badass female characters are --
Along with Storm, my other fave X-Men are Wolverine in both his manifestations --
And I do also have a soft spot for the X-Men's most sympathetic victim/villain/extremist, Magneto --
You can see Cal's favourite 12 by clicking here. And if you want to take up this challenge on your own blog or in the comments, feel free to play along!
Well, that was fun. I used to LOVE comics and would spend any change I had on them when we got down to the Five&Dime in the valley. I loved the fantasy world comics provided. Happy Sunday, Debra. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThese are such fabulous choices. And many of them I've never even heard of!
ReplyDeleteThere are SIXTY-FIVE Marvel characters????
ReplyDeleteSheesh. I knew about three of them, and not well at all.
As I get older, I find myself thinking, "Yeah, but Magneto does have a point."
ReplyDeleteI’ll pass on the challenge because deciding on 12 is way too much work for me. How some ever, Bucky would be my No. 1. There’s just something about those long flowing locks and that dark brooding look. Dr. Strange would be my No. 2 because .... Benedict Cumberbatch.
ReplyDelete@ Bob -- Actually, there are many more than 65 but that's just the number that the artist in question has portrayed so far! He's covered the most popular ones to date.
ReplyDeleteI am not into these at all but I do like the strong women figures. Have a nice day.
ReplyDelete@ Rommy -- Yeah, Magneto DOES have a point but unfortunately he goes about asserting it in unfortunate ways most of the time. He can kind of be his own worst enemy but then, aren't we all?
ReplyDeleteexcellent collection/choices
ReplyDeleteHi Debra, I'll give you my proxy to vote because other than the ones you have talked about, I am not familiar with any of these characters.
ReplyDelete--Jim
Animated characters are not me anymore. Now my son and SIL could give you a rundown on all of them.
ReplyDelete12 is too much for me, also, but Spider-Man and The Thing were always my two favorites, maybe because Stan Lee and his many successors always gave them the best lines. Doctor Doom is my favorite villain, followed by Doc Ock--wait a second, he wasn't listed. OK, Kingpin. Favorite female superhero is She-Hulk, followed by The Scarlet Witch (mainly because I always thought she had the coolest costume.) Alicia Masters is my favorite non-superhero hanger-on (it would be Mary Jane Watson, but she's not there either.)
ReplyDeleteBut for me it's as much about the artists who drew the superheroes as it is the superheroes themselves, and my two favorites are Jack Kirby and John Romita Sr. They're not listed either.
Let's talk about spiders. I had a spider refugee move in to a corner of my room. It was not there yesterday, but today i am providing shelter for a spider.
ReplyDeleteBecause i immediately thought of our Arachne, that spider can stay there. I'm superstitious. Also, the poor creature needs shelter.
Storm, Black Panther, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Spider Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Wolverine, Falcon, Ice Man
ReplyDeleteFun post.
I will break the rules. Who are these characters? I feel disconnected when i view them. They don't relate. It is an art form, true, but it seems so dissonant and false. It is like i am looking at an alien art.
ReplyDeleteWhy are you all spider man. Why is everyone talking about Marvel Comics?
I'd love for you to have a conversation with Dylan about who's the best...haha
ReplyDeleteEven though I love DC, Marvel does have a special place in my nerdy heart.
ReplyDeleteMy favs are: Storm, Thor and Captain America (with Bucky!!). Good memories.
XOXO
65? 65?!? I’ve got some studying to do.
ReplyDeleteDr Strange definitely is more cool in the MCU than he ever was otherwise
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debra, some great characters there! I’m just starting to read the comics, which I buy in ebook, so most of my knowledge is through the films and TV shows. I love Black Panther - and T’Challa’s little sister, who is such a delight, and so smart! Sad about Chadwick Boseman, but his character got another outing, a fabulous one, in What If…
ReplyDeleteI like your favourites too.
As a child, I used to read Superman comics with a friend. My mother wouldn’t let me have comics at home, so we used to buy them with deposit money from soft drink bottles and take them to her place to read.
I am old enough to remember the original Captain Marvel, Captain Marvel Jr and Mary Marvel
ReplyDeleteShazam
the Ol'Buzzard
WOW..some of those are incredible. I'm not familiar with them, but enjoyed seeing the details in the drawlings.
ReplyDeleteWhat marvelous characters and so well drawn.
ReplyDeleteThey look like D and D characters.
I didn't know some of them; I had to look them up
What no Iron Man?
ReplyDeleteThe kids are on a Marvel kick right now. We are watching all the movies in chronological order.
@ Hena Tayeb -- That's a LOT of movies! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I'm a big fan of the art depicting these characters. Loki's look is particularly stunning. Did you see the various versions of Loki in the series starring Tom Hiddleston? Very clever and somewhat funny!
ReplyDelete@ Bea -- Yes, I absolutely loved the "multiverse of Lokis" in the Disney+ "Loki" miniseries. However, they missed the mark by making the reptilian Loki an alligator. They should have made it a crocodile -- then it could have been named "Croki" which is how the character is referred to by the online fandom!
ReplyDeleteGood grief. I am not familiar with any of these. I guess I’m out of it. Enjoyed the post though! I did not realize that there were so many marvel characters. I guess it’s been along time since I read a comic book .Have a good week..
ReplyDeleteI love Rogue! I also like Oracle because she proves you can be in a wheelchair and still kick ass!
ReplyDeleteThis topic does not interest me at all, but I'll play along out of congeniality *smirk*. I didn't check out the pre-existing list (I will), so these are off the top of my head, in no particular order, and it is by no means a complete list:
ReplyDeleteIceman
Fantastic Four as a Unit (Human Torch, Thing, Invisible Woman, Mr. Fantastic)
Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew)
Black Widow
Ms.Marvel (Carol Danvers, before she became Captain Marvel)
Darkstar (Laynia Petrovna from the Soviet Super Soldiers)
Northstar
Sasquatch
Yellow-Jacket/Ant-Man/Goliath/Giant-Man
She-Hulk
3-D Man (Chuck and Hal Chandler)
Medusa
Sassybear

Most of what I know about these characters, I've learned on you blog, Debra. Maybe in the next decade I'll watch a few more movies. I need a clone!
