Top of the Fridge

Well, from the top of MY fridge,
you'd get a pair of red silicone oven mitts,
an antique bronze statuette
and a red china teapot.

The bronze statuette is the only thing of value, I suppose.

It depicts a small cherubic Cupid hammering out
an arrowhead on his anvil. Someone gifted it to
my paternal grandfather about a hundred years ago or so
because he and his father before him were both blacksmiths,
as well as being farmers and millers.

The statuette eventually came down to my father
and then to me to be its guardian.

Here's a back view so you can see
Cupid's cute little wings and bare bum.

So, what would we find
on top of YOUR fridge, hmmm?

Tell all in the comments!

  1. Styrofoam coffee cups. And huge dust bunnies. And a dust encrusted fruit stand that hasn't been used since the last decade.

  2. Nothing but placemats of the top of our fridge. The red items are great but the Cupid is so meaningful!

  3. Baskets of napkins and placemats. A bowl of dough proving, if I'm baking bread. In past years a cat or two observing me.

  4. Ohh that's a cute statuette. Love the red.
And I use the top of my fridge to store goodies. There's a little metal shelf I keep stocked with non-perishables.
    Very practical. Who knew??

    XOXO

  5. A large bag of corn chip from Costco, a bread basket with the bread (Fano's rustic loaf or homemade) and/or pastries (scones, turnovers) that may or may not be inside, half a box of black tea bags. Our cabinet space is limited, so the top of the fridge is not for pretty objects d'art. Yours is so tidy and decorative.

  6. It’s all Yee Haw Ville on top of my fridge. One large ceramic cowboy boot ─ currently being used as a coin bank, one medium sized ceramic cowboy boot, a tiny little white cowboy hat incense holder and a cowboy hat stapler.

  7. Potato chips, a jar of cashews, dust

    ReplyDelete
  8. You would have a huge green and tan speckled pottery bowl!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Dust...it's inset beneath cabinets, so there's no room for anything on top of it save for dust or a sheet of paper.

  10. Your fridge top is neat and clean.
Ours? You'd get a small TV and a wireless AT&T receiver.

  11. Over racks and pans that won't fit anywhere else.

  12. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone with an antique bronze atop their fridge. You are classay!

Atop mine would be a plastic dish drainer, which can’t be seen because the fridge is hidden by a door on one side and its height once you’re in the kitchen. No bronze.

  13. A tray that hubby eats dinner off of, a coffee mug with pens in it, and that is it!

  14. Our fridge is in a cupboard. All they'd get is the manuals for the fridge, freezer, central heating, and so on.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Since there's not much room for anything, they'd get nothing but dust bunnies. At our old house, only a candle, and in spring the tomato seeds being started on top of the refrigerator.
    That's a very awesome statue.

  16. I love your little cherub; what a treasure!
On top of my fridge is a cabinet full of large, rarely used pots!

    ReplyDelete
  17. You would get a huge turkey platter and a notepad I keep up there to jot down things I want to pick up when I go to the grocers...oh...and there might be a rime of dust on the turkey platter. lol. xo Diana

  18. All of the vitamins and supplements that I take every day plus my script med; a bottle of honey, and a container of quarters for the washers and dryers!

  19. A tall green clear glass jug with artificial grapes hanging from it...Love it
    Love your Cupid...nice keepsake..

  20. PS..you don't have to break into my house..Just ring the doorbell...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Let me be the sixth person to mention dust.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Baking pans. I don't have much cupboard space. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  23. cookbooks and a variety of alcohol.

  24. The paper towels in a holder and dust (my wife is much shorter than me)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nothing - both my fridge and freezer are integrated into the kitchen units. However, I do like your little bronze cupid.

  26. For white ironstone pitchers, ranging from 6" to 14" high. The second smallest is more cream than white, but it has lovely Grecian design to the rim and handle. The largest is my favourite: a tall water pitcher with wheat stalk decoration in an Art Nouveau style that belonged to my maternal grandmother and mother. My fridge is black, so it makes for a nice contrast with the pitcher collection.

  27. On the top of our fridge, there is one candlestick, one board game, a couple of Covid tests, tealights and other stuff we don't know where to put.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'll be boring and say dust too. It's too high to leave anything on top of it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. One aluminum roasting pan, one mesh pizza baking screen, two aprons (day of the dead print and red checked), cloth napkins, linen tea towels, a multitude of bar towels… oh, an my husband’s fiber powder. I don’t have a lot of cupboard space.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Only dust and grime for all your criminal efforts.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh, that small cherubic Cupid! How cool is that. On top of our fridge you'll find shopping bags, some dust and sometimes, Kazee, our calico. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I love that statuette!
I have nothing on top of my frig, sometimes dust for a while but then it's gone.

    ReplyDelete
  33. When I had a refrigerator, my glass vases.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I hope you are not taking life lessons from that statuette. Blacksmithing while naked sounds... adventurous. But better a cherub on your fridge than the smut on your bookshelf.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Boxes that are too useful to throw away, a couple cases of Ensure for those days. It is like a purgatory. It's a dusty place. If i want to see it again, i don't usually put it there. But it is a useful place. Probably some poor little invertebrates are ekeing out their lives.

    ReplyDelete
  36. How is it that the top of your fridge is so clean and beautifully decorated? If you got near mine, you'd get dirty and disgusted. Don't do.
    Smiles.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Two large chopping boards that don't fit anywhere else and a flat plastic container filled with disposable face masks.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Nothing so lovely as that butt crack! Just containers for left-over food to be quickly available for fridge and freezer.

    ReplyDelete
  39. You can come over and break into my place anytime, friend Debra :) On my fridge, you'll find a lot of dust, a smoke alarm and a carton of 18 eggs :) ❤️

    ReplyDelete
  40. A king size titanic unsinkable Molly Brown rice cooker, that could make enough to feed a banquet.
I never use it as it is way too much for two chaps with portion control issues.

  41. Hello Debra, I just checked--an ice shaver for hot weather. I love your Cupid--and here we thought you were relying on your natural charms to attract your Rare One. Seriously, I've never seen a Cupid like it. I'd love to see the underside.

  42. @ Parnassus (Jim) -- The underside of the statuette is simply green felt. Quite frankly, it looks too new to be original felt. Probably my Mom or Dad cut out a piece and glued it on.

  43. Awww cute little bum! ☺☺ I have the same oven mitts!!! Well, let's see, there's a big honkin' pack of Costco paper towel on top of my fridge! We have so little storage in this tiny kitchen, I have dollar store bins with pasta boxes on top of the fridge too...and (shhhh!) my secret stash of chocolate bars!!! ☺☺

    ReplyDelete
  44. A box of cereal and a container with wet wipes. My fridge is by my oven so it seemed easiest to place the wipes for the oven top at the end of my fingertips, i.e., top of the icebox.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Clever idea for a post.

Dust, mostly. Plus, a watering can & the egg cartons exchanged weekly for farm fresh eggs.

    ReplyDelete
  46. electric skillet and paper towels. And dust.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hey, that's a cute cherub. :)

You'd get more snacks and a tissue box on top of my fridge. lol

    ReplyDelete
  48. Would you please come to my house and clean the top of my refrigerator so it looks pretty like yours? Mine has opened bags of nuts, chips and crackers on it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Your stuff is so varied. I love each one.
ON my refrig? No room so I guess that is good.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Multiple boxes of stale cereal, dust, my grabber, more dust and Field Guide to the birds. The patio doors right beside look out on the feeders.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Dust. A basket with kitchen towels. A stack of paper plates. Things that don't fit in the cupboard, like an extra bag of sugar and flour, a box of chicken stock, and a wide collection of santizing wipes. (Some of which should be used to wipe the top of the fridge!)

    ReplyDelete
  52. The Cupid is adorable. That is quite an heirloom to cherish.
The lucky robber of our house would get an empty salad spinner that does not fit in our cabinets.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Like the majority, dust. But also, a basket of dog treats for my neighbor pup. And a salad spinner.

Your Cupid is adorable. And, how cool is it that your forebears were blacksmiths!?! Cool, or maybe hot, and hard work.

    ReplyDelete
  54. oh this sounded so touching when you mentioned this statue belonged to your paternal father and that father ,it has such an exquisite look dear Debra ,when you showed it closer i fall in love with him :) created so elegantly and artfully indeed .
i think it should stay on your side bar permanently so i can look at him when i visit you because it shows the warmth and depth of your beautiful heart :)
    hugs and blessings!

  55. Empty tea tins and tupperware we only use for non-kosher food (shh, don't tell Eric's mom!)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I have a huge aluminum bowl with two wooden bowls inside it and my pasta maker attachment that goes to my kitchen aid..

    ReplyDelete
  57. How cool to have a bronze statuette come down to you from your paternal grandfather, Debra! You'd find dust on top of my refrigerator. Thanks for reminding me that I probably need to clean it again.
