Thanks to blogging buddy Jackiesue of Yellowdog Granny, I am now a full-fledged booster for her city of West, Texas. Here I am proudly sporting my West High School Trojans team t-shirt, while getting inspiration from a bottle of Lone Star beer and Waylon Jennings' biography.
Jackiesue sent a whole bunch of neat stuff from her neck of the woods, including a package of Texas Bluebonnet seeds, copies of The West News, and some fun magnets now gracing my refrigerator door. Good to know I can phone the West TX police department whenever I need assistance!
Thanks, Jackiesue, you rock!
Well fuck that. If it comes from yellowdoggranny, i will make room. I am not on jackiintimate terms with jackiesue. I just call her yellowdoggranny, oh well. Now i am all worried. She can stay here anytime.
ReplyDeleteAlso, yellowdog granny is a fearless warrior lady. I don't know how to explain this. But she already saved me more than one time.
ReplyDeleteLooking good as a West Texan!
ReplyDeleteAn honorary Lone Star Stater! Yay!
ReplyDeleteNow my next question is do you have the accent down and can you ride a bull?
ReplyDeleteAs .long as you don't MOVE to Texas.
ReplyDeleteSo many Texans move to New Mexico we call them refugees.
ReplyDeleteWELL, YEEeeee HAWwwww partner. You look darn right cute.
ReplyDeleteFun looking magnets.
ReplyDeletePigs under the mistletoe, hmm?
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome post, and Jackiesue is a good friend to send you all that swag!
ReplyDeleteAs a veteran of Texas - 18 years I lived there, I can say that I watched in slide further and further right from Anne Richards to Rick Perry. There is not much that would persuade me to move back short of a blue tsunami and redistricting.
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to see your face. You look like a young version of my ex mother in law, a lovely lady who I still keep in contact with, sort of (she has dementia now). Nice swag.
ReplyDeleteBetter get to work on your Texan drawl!
ReplyDeleteWoo Hoo, Debra! Now you can cheer for the Dallas Cowboys and West Texas Trojans instead of the Edmonton Enemas, er, Elks, LOL!
ReplyDeleteLove the "Notorius RBG" magnet too --- Jackiesue/YDG has a great sense of humour!
How kind! And good to see you.
ReplyDeleteYee Haw! If everyone from Texas were like you, we wouldn't have to worry about the Lone Star State. I love the magnets... especially the Whirlpool magnet. Where can I get one of THOSE?
ReplyDeleteOh I love this so much. I'm so glad you are a West, Texan now. I know the world doesn't have a good impression of Texas. But we're not all Maga's...I come by the yellowdog nickname honestly...we're working on turning her blue. You know you're my favorite Canaderian and you always remember to send a donation for my meals on wheels and over the years you have sent me things that make me know we're in each other's hearts..it gave me such joy to bring a little of my world to you..
ReplyDeleteoh and the two pigs kissing is the motto from Slovacek's. A giant gas station (kinda like Buckee's) which specializes in sausage products. They have everything you can think of for sale. When they opened up a business in West they made kolaches and we stormed the castle. Telling them they were making them wrong. Using German dough which is like bread and not kolache dough which is sweet...they switched it and now they make a pretty decent kolache. I'm still working on sending you a skunk egg and a dozen of kolaches.
and ain't Richard sweet?
Now you can roll Governor Hot Wheels somewhere he wouldn't prefer
ReplyDeleteLol, you crack me up. Texas, it's like a whole other country.
ReplyDelete@ yellowdoggranny -- I'm so happy to know the story behind the smooching pigs now! Hahahaha, love ya, Jackiesue!
ReplyDeleteThere really are some wonderful people in the world.
ReplyDeleteYour looking fabulous
Oh those sweet surprises - you're most deserving.
ReplyDeleteI won't say "Go Trojans!" because the Bruins (my school's -UCLA's- team) was/is the enemy. But your rock the Trojan look.
Yay. Happy everything!
These Texas themed objects do raise eyebrows
ReplyDeleteMitchell had me laughing about the Whirlpool magnet.
ReplyDeleteThat is a whole lotta fun!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteArmadillos make great pets.
ReplyDeleteI love the piggies under the mistletoe.
ReplyDeleteYou might want to work on the cowboy hat, though. One would think that living in Alberta would give you lots of access to appropriate headgear.
Great photo. Looking good!
ReplyDelete@ Old Lurker -- You're absolutely right. That's just an inexpensive straw cowboy hat I wore to the Calgary Stampede the year I attended. I was too cheap to shell out the Bigga Bigga Bucks for a true Stetson cowboy hat.
ReplyDeleteI was going to make a joke about you seceding from the Union, as some Texans have threatened to do of late, but then I remembered you're Canadian, and thus not part of the Union to begin with. I forget sometimes.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun things Jackiesue sent you, Debra! Loved the picture of you with your Texas finery.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely lot of swag! And now I'm wondering what kolaches are.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks cool save for the Cowboy insignia. There, you have my deepest condolences.
ReplyDeleteBoy Howdy you are looking great as a Texan.
ReplyDeleteSeems appropriate as Alberta is called the Texas of Canada by some. You look adorable, by the way, but oof. Texas? Sorry yellowdoggranny and other Lone Staters (including some of my cousins), but Texas is a scary place!
ReplyDeleteNice to see you Debra. You got some good stuff there.
ReplyDeleteJust don't move to Texas. I promise you won't like it.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
That's awesome. Jackiesue is the best and you make a pretty good Texan, Debra.
ReplyDeleteI love this so much! You make a cute Texan, better start working on your accent. Aye!?
ReplyDeleteTrojans. Isn't that a condom brand?
ReplyDeleteYou are rocking it, Debra! You are the cutest Texan around!
ReplyDelete😁 That looks like a super sweet surprise, dear Debra!
ReplyDeleteI wish you and your loved ones good luck and health in the new year! 🥂🍀😌
All the best from Austria, Traude
