Since my Advent of the Sun Altar to celebrate the coming Winter Solstice is physically occupying my altar space this month, I'm doing a photo post to honour December's Full Moon. Consider it Part 2 of a similar post I did a couple of years ago!
The Sacred Spiral of Life is a powerful symbol found in many spiritual traditions, including that of the Divine Feminine. The path to the centre of existence and to the centre of ourselves resonates deeply in the human psyche and we reproduce it in many settings.
The Sacred Spiral forms the basis for the unicursal (single) path of another favourite spiritual symbol and practice of mine -- the labyrinth.

Pythagorean spiral, Carbonacci sequence, and the Golden Ratio may provide the mathematical foundations for these spirals, but it's the use of beautiful materials that make them beautiful to behold!
ReplyDelete...I love the frosty garden, our garden has 4" of frost this morning.
ReplyDeleteOf course I love the last one.
ReplyDeleteSacret spiral is beautiful and wonderfully made in nature 🤩
ReplyDeleteWonderful spirals. They do make one feel divine in spirit.
ReplyDeleteOMG I love that garden!!!!
ReplyDeleteI need that in my life.
XOXO
These sacred spirals are powerful.
ReplyDeleteI think the leaf spiral is Andy Goldsmith. Let's credit artists.
ReplyDeleteI began thinking: Spiral staircase. Then, voila! There it was!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteA brilliant post. I do love the space of your altar.
ReplyDelete🌀 Sometimes I'm spiraling inward and suddenly brake and shift to spiraling outward. 😵💫 Sometimes the spiraled snake uncoils and bites me on the ass.🐍
ReplyDeleteMy best days are when I sit quietly, licking my spiral lollipop 🍭, and figuring out what all of that was trying to teach me! 🧘♀️😊
I'm admiring the full moon outside my window as I write! The cat lamp is gorgeous ♥
ReplyDeleteI love how you describe the spiral as a path both into the center of existence and into the center of ourselves, and how once you start looking for it, you see it everywhere. It is a lovely reminder to move through this dark month with a sense of quiet meaning and connection. Thanks, Debra.
ReplyDeleteThe beautiful spiral. It feels essential somehow for life and contemplation. I need to find a labyrinth.
ReplyDeleteHello Debra, Thank you for reminding me about the full moon. I just went to look, and it was overcast. However you could see a brighter area where the moon was. As I watched, the clouds suddenly parted, giving me a full view of the bright moon in all its glory, then a minute later the clouds covered the moon again.

There is a church that has an herb garden outside of it's kitchen. I've wanted to visit now and then. I might do it before I die. Love that cat lamp with the spiral.
ReplyDeleteLove the spirals.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful post, Debra.
ReplyDeleteI want the cat lamp!!
ReplyDeleteHi Debra, lovely photos. The frosty garden and cat 🐈 are my favourites.
ReplyDeleteYour full-moon offering turns the sacred spiral into a quiet reminder that our inner light is always waiting at the centre
ReplyDeleteI wish I could keep up with altar space like you do, but it collects random items I set there, and the cats knock everything over.
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome, very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI will watch for the spirals!
ReplyDeleteIt's a little freaky to me that you would mention this today. Last night, I had a hard time sleeping with an old memory from Instagram playing over and over in my head for some reason - #seeitineverything - about seeing hearts and how if you are looking for them, you will see them so much more often. No idea what made me remember that, but I took it as a sign. I think I will start looking for hearts again and maybe spirals too. :)
ReplyDelete@ Martha -- Yes, definitely some synchronicity going on here! And you know, I'm compiling a blog post of heart imagery for Valentines Day, so I'm looking for hearts everywhere right now too.
DeleteBeautiful and meaningful post dear Debra 👍
ReplyDeleteYes spiral of life is very captivating and powerful symbol and I so agree that when we deliberately look around in it’s search we see it everywhere 🥹
You selected some really awesome examples 🥰👌♥️
Love the garden and the cat..Often we don't see for looking!!
ReplyDeleteGreat...now I'm craving cinnamon roles.

Is that last one yours? It's stunning.
ReplyDelete@ The Happy Whisk -- Alas, no, it's not mine. I wish it were!
DeleteI'm so glad I got out for the full moon, it was a little cloudy but I bathed in its light.
ReplyDeleteI love a labyrinth.
ReplyDeleteSomeone very patient made the ephemeral leaf spiral. It's striking.
