I have always loved the gallery wall
created in his home by blogging buddy
It's the perfect way to display some of the
wonderful art pieces he has collected over the years --
John inspired me to create my own little gallery wall
to the right of my computer desk in my den!
These are all small, mainly original art pieces of birds and animals
which I have collected or been given over the years.
Each petite artwork would be lost by itself on a wall,
but looks great when collectively displayed
as part of a themed gallery.
Starting from the top and going clockwise, these pieces are --
1. An early ceramic wall sculpture by Winnipeg artist Jordan Van Sewell illustrating how to let a sleeping dog lie, purchased in the early-to-mid 1990s.
2. "Beware of the Cat" ceramic plaque purchased in Assisi, Tuscany in 2008. It looks just like HRH!
3. A terra cotta wall sculpture of a "Curled Hare" bought in Glastonbury, England in 2009.
4. The "Catitude Coffee Co." metal sign was a gift from my sister a few years ago, again in homage to You Know Who.
5. A painting entitled "Love" by blogging buddy Magic Love Crow (Stacy), which she created and gave to me in 2021 for my blog post HRH's Pet Purride Pawrade! Stacy described her work as follows: "This crow is surrounding the world, which is under its beak. The crow has no gender, it represents all, spreading love and peace."
6. A watercolour painting by an artist named Denise of a Sacred Hare near Bride's Mound under Glastonbury Tor, purchased in Glastonbury, England in 2009.
7. In the centre is a woodcut entitled "Shy Rabbit" by Canadian artist Gerard Brender à Brandis, purchased at the artist's studio in Stratford, Ontario in 2007. When I was a university student in the late 1970s in Winnipeg, I saw an earlier woodcut of a rabbit by him which I badly wanted, but was much too poor to afford. It brought me "full circle" to be able to buy this one 30 years later.

DeleteThat's a lovely gallery wall. As you probably know I have one, the whole side of my living dining area. It's my art, that I've been giving away bit by bit, so there's gaps!

ReplyDeleteI like how people display their favorite art or other sentimental pieces. I like that you have a semi-theme for your wall, cats and rabbits. My favorite would be the catitude one. What's it about cats with attitude that makes a person smile anyway?

Love this. I especially love your broom hanging beside the art wall. Did you buy it at Granville Island? I have a beautiful broom hanging in my laundry room/bathroom which I use on a regular basis.
ReplyDelete@ Pixie -- Granville Island is a good guess (I love shopping there when in Vancouver!) but no, I bought this broom in Winnipeg nearly 40 years ago. Technically, it's a cobweb broom and I bought it because it looks SO witchy! Its corn straw bristles are getting pretty fragile and brittle with age now though, so I have to be careful handling it.

ReplyDeleteMy dining room (the furnishings and the walls) was long ago given to frogs of every size and material and culture and cost. My frog section is large, but I also have monkeys in the bathroom, giraffes in the parlor (they are the guardians of a framed piece of cat artwork done by you!!), hedgehogs on the bookshelves, and my 66 y.o. teddy bear in a place of honor by the front door. Hubby's computer printer is a shrine to both "Grogu" and "Groot." Franchise worlds are colliding!
😚🤭 My apartment is small but the whimsy level is big and each day is happier because I have curated my joy into my interior decor...tasteful and artistic and mature, but never, ever grown-up and old!!
@ Cleora Borealis -- I used to work with a woman who collected frog ornaments. Her office was jam-packed with them! I enjoyed reading about the collections in your home -- you know I'm a big believer in whimsy! I'm glad to hear my little cat watercolour is under the protection of giraffes.

ReplyDeleteI have really been noticing Rabbit art lately. Victorian rabbits have always been a favorite but now I am seeing Rabbits in everywhere art form. Where they always there? Funny how that happens.

ReplyDeleteI wasn't familiar with his art. I love it. And I especially love your cat wall! I have a mini cat wall, too -- maybe someday I'll blog about it. I love the diversity of the work on yours. Whimsical, fun and humorous but also abstract, vintage and sculptural.
