Scotland the Brave

Ha ha, this made me LOL! But really, I love Scottish people. Bagpipes, och aye! Curling, too. Even golf is tolerable. And of course who doesn't love the wee Scotsman on the Canadian Tire money?! Any other ethnic group would be outraged to be depicted as the epitome of cheapness and thrift. But not Scots! They revel in their reputed tightfistedness!

  2. my grandfather was scottish and when he died we found piles of journals where he logged every single cent he ever spent. he even marked down 5 cents for his beloved green lifesavers.

  3. That was a great film. So, what is this money used for? I've never seen it, but I sure do love that smiling face.

  5. Sorry, should have explained Canadian Tire money a bit more fully for non-Canuckians. When you buy something at Cdn Tire and pay for it in cash (not by credit card), you get 5 cents or 10 cents worth of Cdn Tire money. It's like points, green stamps or a loyalty reward. You can spend the Cdn Tire money on future items at the store. Cdn Tire money is a cultural institution in Canada! And oh yes, Cdn Tire sells much more than tires!

  10. What the heck is Canadian Tire money?
I have to say I am a sucker for a Scottish accent...there was a boy/young man in school with me as an exchange student at Phila Textile when I was there...we were both Knitting majors...oh, I'd melt every time he opened his mouth (I was already married then, but I could still appreciate an adorable accent!)

  11. Yes, Catpriestess, no one skewers the Scots like Mike Myers! I haven't seen the Axe Murderer movie, but love his other memorable Scottish-inspired characters like Fat Bastard and Shrek!

  12. Love the Scots and their accents :)

Have you read the Outlander series? I swear, the Scottish burrr comes through the pages.

  13. Hi Cora -- No, I haven't read the Outlander series. Didn't they make movies out of those books, or maybe it was a TV series? I did try to read Trainspotting once though, which is written in phonetic Scots English, but it took so long to sound everything out that I gave up. Besides, too depressing to read about heroin addiction.

  15. My brother lives in Scotland. His reports of deep fried *everything* amuse and amaze (and tantalise!) me :D Last night I had a customer INSIST on paying with Canadian Tire money. Please note: I. do. not. work. at "Crappy Tire". That was a fun 4-minute debate.

  18. BugginWord -- Usually bagpipes make your ears hurt, not your eyes. That video is just plain evil.

  20. That was quite an astute observation on your part. I find the Scottish accent adorable even if I have a hard time trying to decipher what they are saying.

  24. YAY, I'm a Scot and very happy to hear that you love me!! ;0)

You can see Wallace's monument from my Gran's back garden. It was never visited by a soul until Braveheart and now there are coach loads there every day...

They have even made a stone monument at the moment with Mel Gibson's face... I'm not sure Wallace would be that impressed ;0)

  26. Scotland is on my bucket list. I want to see the land of my husbands ancestors and the hills that gave us our family name.

  27. I second the Mike Myers comment! He did a skit once on SNL where he was the owner of a store called "All Things Scottish." And when a customer came in the door, bagpipes would sound instead of a bell, and his greeting was: "Welcome to All Things Scottish, and if it's not Scottish...its crap!" Lol - I still say this to my friends.

Oh and Canadian Tire money rocks. I saved $11.00 on my new camera last month! Woot!

  28. LOL...hilarious!

I'm Scot-Irish...so maybe some of those Braveheart guys are my relatives? ;)
